Starting the game ,could use a few starting pointers

Savatage79
So I had a char way back that I hit cap with but that way before all the expansions as of late so I'm going to start fresh and enjoy the ride.

Any classes you guys can recommend? I'm debating a stealth type char or a pure caster, curious how they fare these days and out in pvp.

Also does anyone have any experience with both ps5 and series X? I have the base game on both and tryin to decide which one to buy the collection on, would love some feedback.

Any pointers etc I'd gladly welcome thanks

I don’t pvp, nor do I run on a console, but here is what I can share.

I guess on console, go Xbox. Microsoft just purchased the company, and Xbox “game pass” players are getting discounts on the games, including eso.

For stealth, run kahjit as they (weirdly) are the only stealth race now.
Bosmers have a (pvp only) stealth detect ability but it’s very weak compared to most spells and potions.

Stam builds rule over Mag builds in pvp, if what the forum posters are saying is correct.

Not sure about classes, try them all and play what you like.

Do crafting writs daily, nice steady flow of income for starting.

    Start crating research immediatley.

    Loot everything.

    Steal and pickpocket

Fish, perfect roe brings in a lot of gold and fish sell for quite a bit too for the time investment.

Look up a genera starters build. Alcast and many others have them. Start doing crafting as you go it’ll help you.

Mostly…. Just quest and enjoy the game for a bit without worrying about leveling and hardcore builds etc.

if you both PVE and PVP then khajiit stamina nightbalde for stealth and pvp, high elf magicka sorcerer mainly for pve.
(after U30 stamina classes penetration is nerfed and they are not much welcome to the serious content groups, but stamina is better in pvp. so if you plan pve - go mag, if you want pvp - go stam). Still the difference becomes noticeable for the high end content. for overland and RP this matters not.
You can search youtube for ESO Class Tier List to watch numerous videos and form an impression of classes capabilities.

It's too late for you to not buy the game, so just cheese your way through Tamriel. Play the most broken classes and try to have fun while you can. If you plan to play PvP, make a stamden, a magsorc or stamcro.

Don't do this, if you start with a stamblade you'll hate the game and it'll make you want to quit faster. Stamblade has the hardest rotation and the lowest DPS among stamina classes in PvE. In PvP it has a steep learning curve because your only viable option is ganking.

I’ll give my experience. As @BlueRaven said if you don’t care either way about what console you like then go with X-Box. Microsoft purchased the company so there may be a slight benefit to getting it on that system. Otherwise just pick what console you like more.

Stealth class is Nightblade naturally. Race doesn’t really matter, but Bosmer and Kahjit both are your top picks for different reasons.
    -Bosmer have increased detection radius.
-Kahjit have increased Critical Damage and Critical Healing and reduces your detection radius in Stealth.
So go with what you like. Most number pushers go with Kahjit in both pvp and pve. But play what you like because you are going to be staring at that character’s back side for hours and the difference between them numbers wise isn’t that big of a margin. I personally have a Kahjit for pvp (gank build) and I have a Dark elf for pve because I like the look of the Dark elves.

Pure mage, I say a sorcerer. I suggest either High elf or Breton.
-High elves hit harder due to more max magic.
-Bretons have better sustain so you can use more abilities without heavy attacking.
In pvp, I’m no expert but I think high elves are favored due to being able to do slightly more damage since burst damage in pvp is king. Bretons could technically fight longer, but ultimately it’s up to you what character you want to be staring at for hours.

I have a pure mage breton for pvp and a high elf for pve. Hope that helps.

I play on the Xbox Series X. Dang, the load times are fast at least compared to the Xbox One X. I don't have a clue about Playstation at all. I say go with the platform where you have the most friends and or you enjoy the console the most and the big one, what controller you enjoy the most.

Since you already have both, why not just play both of them on your PS5/Xbox Series X and see which ones load the fastest, play the best for you.

I can't say much about builds, but one thing I always say is for role playing reasons, as soon as you get out in the real world, head over straight to the Gold Coast and start the Dark Brotherhood quest till you get the Blade of Woe.

For me, when I use the Blade of Woe, I am not killing anyone but "knocking them out". It makes me having a sneaky character so much more believable than just killing everyone all the time. Also they always seem to come back after they are "dead" so better to think being knocked out is much more immersive for me.
Not my quote but I love this saying

"I would pay It for support. But since they choosed we are just numbers and not customers, i dont mind if game and zos goes to oblivion"

Magic Templar is easy mode for the game, but any class can be played solo successfully.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

You forgot to mention that magplar has the second worst sustain after magDK, and the lowest DPS among mag classes. It's a damn shame because general magplar toolkit is great for any group content, especially for 3DD runs.

Depends how good you are, Magplar can still perform quite well don't be surprised!

Ok so here's what I did ,I was going to totally restart...but I had a character from way back I dabbled with and its a 46 sorc so I loaded him up. So I'm tottally at a loss as to how I should sorta spend points and all that jazz so any direction would be nice. I have

    39 dark
    30 Daedric
    47 storm
    50 destruction

Should I redo my race and make him a high elf instead of breton?

I haven't logged on this char in a few years so I'm totally lost lol but I figure this is probably best to skip some grind and get into the real meat of the game

To finish leveling off what's a basic set of skills you guys recommend here ?

Join the Fighters and Mages guilds asap. Grab lorebooks as you see them. Hit dolmens as you come across them. It's SO much better to level them up as you go along vs. having to grind them out completely.

They are group/public events that happen in the original “vanilla” zones.

What BlueRaven said. But I wanted to add in and say it's also another name for Dark Anchors. Or Molag Bal's Anchors.

Nightblade class has been the focus of developers' hatred these last few years, so NB only gets nerfed with each update now. Don't even bother choosing NB unless you like being punished for your choices. Dragonkights aren't that much better than Nightblades either imo, though they may fare better in pvp than NB as of this writing. Can't go wrong with Templar, Warden, or Necro in their current state, especially stamina builds for pvp. Your actual class is irrelevant in some cases though since devs have decided the best approach would be to buff Fighter's Guild, Mages Guild, Alliance (pvp) skills and other skill lines to be more powerful and more important than class skills (there's no longer class identity).

Should I definitely get blackwood and start doing things within?

I'm just overwhelmed is all, a ton of sfuff to take in at once. I'm a destiny 2 player so switching gears isn't super easy lol

Play what you want. You can have two or three characters at once doing magic or stamina or whatever and then see what works for you.

Also, remember to train your mount speed each day 😊

The eso online chat community is pretty helpful and friendly so don’t feel shy putting a question in the chat function though always beware of some saying they can sell you this gear or that. Befor you get to Champion Points there is not much use buying expensive gears or weapons as the game is levelled to you.
  • Savatage79
    Thanks for the help guys.

Here's where I'm stuck, I don't have any idea where I should be to start advancing back to getting into the game. Like someone said how good blackwood gets you familiar, with me just plopping back on my 47 level char I'm just in cold harbor and no idea why other than it looks like this quest to rescue some dudes.

In my campaigns it says cyrodiil and imperial city that's it.

Should I get blackwood and start to follow that to get back on track? There's just SO much content here I'm completely lost but once I have a goal or a direction I'll be fine, but this game has a load of content so I can't just even remember where I was headed like 3 to 4 years ago.

I don't own Blackwood but I don't see it as necessary content unless you think you might like the two companion NPCs which come with it. Nothing can compare to an actual player though, and most of the community is willing to help new players. It's worth noting that several recurring NPCs from previous DLC appear in the Blackwood storyline so I'm not sure they will recognize you when you go to play through older dlc or how they worked that out.

As far as more 'important' content goes, Clockwork City and Summerset expansions both grant you Transmutation, Jewelry crafting, and Psijic skill lines which opens up a lot of utility for any player. Greymoor has Antiquities which can get you access to Mythic Gear (think uniques), with Ring of the Pale Order being great for new or solo players, but some mythics are restricted to certain zones so keep that in mind.
