Can't have more than 1 companion in a group?

Sorry if this has been covered. But I'm grouped with 3 friends and only one of us can summon a companion at a time..is this by design or a bug? I thought we were supposed to be able to bring multiple companions into a trial?

Kind of dumb if it's by design if we can group together and level our companions together in the overland where group limits like that shouldn't matter.

If there are only 3 players, the game thinks of you as a normal 4 man group, thus only 1 companion.

You would have to invite 2 more to make a large party, an then fill with companions

Does this work? We tried with a group of 4, but not with a group of 5,

Patch notes:

You are not currently able to summon Companions into groups that have 4 or more players + Companions present while in the overland or in public dungeons. This means a group of 2 players can each have a Companion, a group of 3 players can only have 1 total Companion and groups of 4 or more will not be able to have any Companions in these areas.

Is this something that they're going to fix? Seems really short sighted.

Thank you. I went back to the patch notes when we noticed the issue, but I did not see that section.

Only in Trials and its still only 1 companion. Starlight has a couple threads where he takes Bastian to tank Trial bosses in groups of 11 players.

Only in Trials and its still only 1 companion. Starlight has a couple threads where he takes Bastian to tank Trial bosses in groups of 11 players.

We were doing Cloudrest tonight and two of our group was going to be late. We used two companions while taking down the first two bosses. Mostly they just laid there dead.

It really is stupid. So now if we want to group to level companions or farm their gear which requires them to be active we are limited to a group of 2.
