I feel like there’s some cause and effect here within the community. We see frequent posts in the forums and Discord with complaints about fake tanks. Lots of players are fed up with dps queuing as tanks to get dungeon groups faster, and like the idea of having a pocket tank so they don’t have to deal with bad pugs.

You could take it deeper and argue that the prevalence of fake tanks is driven by a shortage of real tanks, which has been a problem since the Morrowind sustain nerf.

In full circle - Zeni made tanking unappealing, and there were fewer tanks in game. DPS got fed up with insanely long queue times for the pugfinder (caused by the tank shortage), and started queuing as tanks. DPS and healers who had waited in the queue were fed up with the dps who skipped the line by pretending to be tanks, and are choosing AI tanks instead.
