It happens all the time, I stop to search a table and the companion runs ahead and stops right where I am aiming.

Or maybe just a key to tell them to move behind me.

Heyve been doing this forever, sadly. My bear something's makes fishing a nightmare since he'll randomly park himself right on my reticle while I'm casting. Then when I readjust he'll just do it again. It's almost like they're programmed to pathfind as irritatingly as possible.

Yes indeed. They always without fail run exactly where you're aiming. :( Crafting writ board, quest giver, anything lootable - they both make sure they're in the right position when you press E. This is extremely annoying. Can't they be programmed to remain one step behing the player character (at least outside of combat - in case a player wants them to tank for them)?

Argh now I got Mirri and she does it too when I am in stealth trying to steal. She speeds right up and stops exactly where I am aiming to steal.😡

Another issue is that if you run up to something and the companion follows along and stands behind you, then you aim your pointer at something directly in front of yourself, you often end up getting the prompt to interact with them even though they are behind you.

It seems as though their natural stopping distance from you means you're constantly in interact range of them, and it gets in the way of all kinds of things.
