Do I really wanna go through and level an alt?

Hi.

I've been on ESO for along time, I've beta tested/played at launch, and played all the way up to about clockwork city and then I stopped playing and just came back recently. My main character is a stamplar. Also have pretty much 100% of all the quests/skyshards/vtrials/traits completed up till clockwork city. Have alotttt of time on that one character, and just sitting on my alt and looking at the map really buzzkills me... I like my templar, but going all OCD with the smaller stuff with it is killing me, like doing the thieves guild/dark brotherhood doesn't feel like a templar-thing? ya know? Stamplar is also, so boring... zzz.. spam 3 buttons and that's it. I've tried going magicka and just can't get the hang of the dps, when my stamplar doubles what my magicka can do.

I have all those other DLC/chapters to catch up upon, felt like maybe I should just reroll on my nightblade and just do it all on there, but looking back and seeing all the time I spent really kills me...

The question: To level alt or not to level alt?

rant/vent over
Thanks

If you care about being true to your character, absolutely. As a roleplayer, I always have an army of alts in different games, to fit the different kinds of content.

If you already have doubts, don't do it. Level your alt only if you have mood for that ;)

However, if you want to go for a 40k club and complete all the achievements (including TG & DB) remember that templar is a servant of the temple. But no one specify which temple of which god. Or Daedra. So you could be in a service of, lets say... Uncle Sheo ;)

I've made alts to quest in several dlcs. It was enjoyable, it's nice seeing some character progression. Then I'd finish the dlc around the time I hit champion rank again, go to gear them up for end game.... and realize why I prefer my main class. So the toon I'd done the dlc with ended up getting binned.

I don't really see how stamplar is just three skills anymore then magplar is though. Any class can feel that way if you let it.

Let's face it, regardless of whether your max rank in gold end game gear or level 10 in blue training gear ESO is extremely easy when it comes to questing etc. And by in large the stories just aren't that interesting.

But it can still be a fun game- the other parts that are challenging.

Levelling alts is my guilty pleasure and I spend a lot of time doing that instead of content I probably should be focused on. There are some activities that I don’t look forward to, like the first DB quest and much of the TG storyline, but it’s not so bad as I’m doing it. I’m relaxed about most of the grind (skyshards and MG books, for example).

Enjoying playing for the sake of playing and not stressing about maxing out every skill line as fast as I can holds my interest in playing alts. Just play what you enjoy, I suppose.

Complete everything on one class. Roll alt just for variation at end game. That's how I play all MMOS. If you try to do too much with two many chars you will burn out.

Making alts is painful to try out new builds the one major thing that stops me now after making 3 is the mounts, mount skills should be imo account wide, nothing worse than going to pvp and taking 5 min plus to try and get to a location to find the action is over 9 times out of 10 I end up ditching the mount and running to find I'm like a chocolate teapot with no stam or magic left after the sprint.

Do you want to level an alt?

Well the best person to ask that of is yourself as everyone else here can only give their opinions and they are biased by their own playstyle, experiences, free time etc. etc. etc.

I used to have 12 alts but I'd not say I actually felt invested into any of them. They were little more than daily task mules really so I deleted the lot of them.

I have the one character and I will probably still have just the one character until such time as I have completed every zone.

Now the other side of the coin is the fact that alts do help that CP progression - if reaching the top of it is really important.

I'd say give it a go.

If you get into it, great. Off you go into the great yonder.

If you don't well, it will come in handy next Jubilee event if you are still around.

For a start I think you have to accept that you won't be able to find another build which is as easy and simple to play as the one you're already very familiar with that also feels exciting and varied, because that's contradictory.

All classes can be made very simple to play, at least when questing, they'll all have some equivalent to your 3 button templar build but they're all going to be just as dull. Maybe at first the novelty of different animations and slightly different tactics will balance that out but once that wears off you'll be back in the same place.

If you want something which demands more involvement from you and offers more variety in what you're doing you are going to have to accept that will likely be because the DPS is lower so most things don't die in 3 hits and you have to do more. It will also be unfamiliar at first and so feel a bit awkward or strange until you get used to it.

If that's totally unacceptable to you then I don't think trying to play an alt will work out. Either you make an equivalent build and end up right back where you are with different animations and all the downsides of starting a new character (like having to rediscover wayshrines and train up the skill lines) or you try to make a more varied build and end up frustrated that it's not as efficient.

Leveled an alt specifically for thieves guild, dark brotherhood and ledgermain. Its been a lot of fun and very useful.

Also have one for farming mats and crafting. Its also very helpful and convenient. Though if your a stamplar on your main and already have been doing crafting on them then it might be a better idea to just grab some gear to swap out for farming. Adept rider and wild hunt ring are really good.

Might like to level one just to try something new or a different role. It can be a nice refresher to try something new.

Its not as bad as it seems too level a new charachter either. Save up some exp scrolls from daily log in rewards, get some purple training gear and wait for a double exp event. It helps cut down the time a lot, just got to summon the willpower to be board for a few hrs. Also helps to find a friend to either help or just chat with while your grinding or good music. Researching spots to level is good too.

You are right. That's the current core problem of ESO:

Stam rules everything (except vetTrials) but has little class identity,
because Weapon skills are the essential ones.
So you play all StamClasses very much alike which I find boring.

Magicka is more different and much more fun to play,
but has been nerfed so much into the ground with Update 30
that you only can play CritSets which I also find boring.

ZOS navigated us into pretty BORING options with Update 30.
If you have seen everything, I still would recommend playing a Necro.
Necro plays more complex than other classes and is still good fun for me.
And you can easily switch from Mag to Stam or vice versa later.

I also highly recommend trying another role.
If you already know mechs, try playing as Tank.
There are not enough Tanks in the game, so people will be thankful.
Moreover, playing tank means you are mostly in control of the gameplay which is a LOT of fun.

Thanks everyone for commenting. Truly nice to see people telling me there opinions and not just bashing.

I think I will continue on my stamplar and be a tank for randoms and just continue the dlc.

    Thanks

Majority of players over 40k achievements also have 10+ characters.

Game is extremely alt friendly. Maybe the most I've seen in 2 decades of gaming. The trick for people like us is to not do things like click bookshelves to start a skill line you don't want or open a thieves trove that triggers that line. Keep on eye on that and you will be fine.

I will say that, having come back recently to the game myself after a 2 year break, making a new character to play got me back into the game easier and faster than trying to relearn my old 50s, and figure out how to readjust to all the changes in the time I was gone, with them would have been. It's much easier to get accustomed to how things have changed while you're leveling up a new one. I'd recommend it even if it's going to be a throwaway character you don't continue on, and just use the new character to 'shake the rust off' with.

I say make some alts, why simply because they are an long time process, leveling up riding take months.
They give some immediate benefits: 1) they can hold stuff in their inventory 2) during many events having multiple alts give more chance of drops, doing crafting writs during anniversary event for more boxes.
    3) re do quests you found fun and as you say do stuff not fitting for your main.

Fun is that my highest dps alt is an stamplar, probably because the rotation :joy:
However my strongest is my magplar because the DD<->Healer functionality, she can go from being an DD with off heals to an trial healer swamping bars and gear.

I say make an nightblade as they are pretty different and very nice for stealth stuff although you have gear for this who is cheap, you don't need high dps here anyway.

Short story back at launch I made my main magsorc and the magplar to hold on to an name.
Later made some bank alts, left game after a year and come back just before we got housing.
So I killed off two bank alts and made an NB and a DK then a warden with Morrowind.
made an magic warden yesterday making it 12 and two of each class, my original magsorc is stamsorc and primary pvp.
My stamplar was an later one. 7 can do master writs, 6 are qualified for vet dungeons 2 for vet dlc.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I dunno. My Stam DK uses class identifying skills. Noxious Breath being my favourite. Flames of Oblivion and Stone Giant are also frequently used. Venomous Claw is a strong Dot.

Outside of pure dps builds you get fragmented shield and green dragon blood as well.

I'm sure over classes have similar stuff.
