Deadlands portals can be a complete waste of time to do

I entered a portal today and nothing had been killed (like previously when I'd done one, the mobs were dead and I caught up to the others as we made our way through). This one, nothing had been killed (or as I know now, had respawned). I fought my way to the end alone and figured I'd be soloing this one and was curious to do it alone; but when I got the the end, the boss fight ends as I walk up as others completed it. So I fought my way to the end for absolutely no reward i.e. no reason. Not sure these portals are worth the waste of time if it's going to be like this. Why bother working to get to the end if it could end without you and you get nothing. Something should be changed here, whether the portal mobs all stay dead and don't respawn so you know you are trying to 'catch up' to the fight, or make the instance solo, or end it as soon as boss is engaged so others can't waste time, or give the chest if you've killed any mobs working your way through. Not saying any of these is the perfect solution, but they are all better than wasting players time IMO. Much like the storms in skyrim when they first came out, I won't be wasting my time on these anymore.

You can stay there and wait for the boss to respawn. That is why there were already lots of people there.

This. Basically, outside of Dailies, you could just sit at the end of a Deadlands Portal to farm it.

Well, thanks guys, I had no idea about that. I wish it was something a little more intuitive then, I assumed it was like every single other event of every other expansion in the game and completed.

I mean, you have every right to think it worked the way you thought, since it always had before.

Yeah I mean tbf I didn't know that either until someone invited me to group and port in to farm one. It isn't obvious.

Well, at least I know now. But zos wise it might be a good idea to give a hint about how this works.

It does say Public Dungeon as you enter. So, the same mechanics apply. Open to public, and bosses respawn about every 5 minutes
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Well, when you enter the Deadlands it's identified onscreen as a "Public Dungeon," and bosses in public dungeons respawn reasonably quickly, so that's one clue that the mobs and bosses in the Deadlands might work similarly.

It's funny, I actually noticed the "public dungeon" screen for the first time today when entering it, but dismissed it as a buggy screen instead of any "real hint". Maybe that's on me, but I don't think it is. I think this definitely could have been handled better, anyone will be expecting this to work like every other world event more than a public dungeon.

Well, world bosses, dolmens, geysers, dragons, and harrowstorms also respawn, if at a slower and, in some cases, highly unpredictable rate. Mind you, I have no idea how quickly the mobs and bosses respawn in the Deadlands, but they do seem to respawn pretty quickly in most public dungeons-- thank goodness, given the way some players like to run around in circular routes farming them.

So, the first time on live I saw a portal, I went in and there was a group of people clearing the portal. We all did it together.

    That was fun!

The next three times I saw a portal I went in and no one was there. On one of them I started trying to clear and just stopped.
    It was not worth it.

Yea, I get it now. Still seems like a weird move for zos, but they are rarely consistent with design. (Like some hard modes of dungeons have to have a scroll read, some a flag activated, some every boss done on HM, some have certain mechanics to just have it be hard mode complete without activating a HM) So I can't say I'm shocked that these new world events are now suddenly like public dungeons. Even though I understand it now, I still have to say it's a horrible design choice and just furthers this game being unfriendly to newer players.

So since everyone responding here seems up on these new events, can anyone tell me if there is a daily NPC? so far I only have the two NPCs in the main city giving me the world boss and dungeon dailies, but no world event daily.
