There is none... it's completely random... can acquire from ANY enemy but a bigger chance with bosses. Apparently it's a very RARE chance and a 1 in 5000 chance (I believe someone calculated) to acquire the purple traited gear you want. I've run many of the guild quests, including public dungeons and defeated all bosses, and RARELY do I get ANY Companion gear. It's just bogus how they did this, and to buy them on the guild traders is impossible for most people considering the millions that pieces are selling for.

Fastest way to acquire gear is to buy it from other players, via zone chat or traders.

I'd say grind public dungeons - companion gear drops from any kind of bosses (delve, public dungeon, WBs etc).

As I mentioned, I've been doing all the guild quests and run both delves and public dungeons, and very very very rarely do I ever receive a companion gear piece. In fact, I did receive a gear piece from an overland enemy- not a boss- so they do actually drop from ANY enemy, not just bosses.

I agree that drop rates are low/inconsistent, I got 1 purple, 2 blue and 1 green piece after 1h of grind in Deshaan public dungeon, after that I didn't get anything else. At least you can buy all kinds of basic (white) gear from NPC merchants in cities so you can start leveling weapon/armor skill lines from the get-go.

Also there is the "Permanent Companion gear loss" bug so better not worry and have your companion wear their whites for duration.

I doubt that advertised price is actually "selling" for millions. No one should buy that. I considered paying 50k but the blue gear really isn't that much better than the white gear it comes with. Not to mention the bug where suddenly your companion will just throw it all away and become a nudist.

Run your easy vet daily dungeons as a dou with a friend and companions. Most non-dlc vet dungeons can be soloed or doued and the gear should drop in relation to difficulty, if it drops at all.

Playing companions is an ABSURD WASTE OF TIME. I've been at it continually for past three days and there's about one companion gear drop every four hours. Factor in duplicates and gear you don't want, doing this is stupid.

I've been concentrating on leveling my companions but not Mage/Fighters/Undaunted because I find those boring.....

So I got one gear drop from a Dragon in N Elsweyr before I decided that was too time consuming, I then did a few Public Dungeons just running around killing everything whilst waiting for bosses and over a couple of hours I got 2 more pieces, so again I decided to try something else.....

Now I tend to solo base game version one normal 4 man dungeons, with my companion ofc and running a 50% xp scroll. I am getting one piece drop from every dungeon usually and they take me around 30 mins to complete.

Atm I'm concentrating on Bastian, I've put him in the white heavy armour but that is all I've changed and tbh he survives pretty well. The pieces of companion gear that have dropped have been green or blue no purple yet! My thought atm is I'm going to sell all green and blue with a view to keeping any purple I get, if I get any.

So my suggestion would be 4 man's as they have provided me with by far the most pieces 😁

Oh and he's leveling pretty quick too!!
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

If it makes you feel any better:

Even with full purple gear & fully leveled, Companions will often be found lying dead in the dirt regardless!
So don't feel like you're at too big a disadvantage! ;P

What's funny is that your companions will reach level 20 and have all skills maxed out before you even have a full set of green weapons and armour. Most new players who stand to benefit the most from companions will likely complete Caldwell's Gold challenge and all DLC story quests before even seeing a single blue or purple piece. Some will likely take a break from the game before even completing a set. The other problem is inventory space to store all that gear, which is nuts.

Time will tell whether or not ZoS will budge or stand their ground like they did with chromium grains. Relaxing the drop rates would be a welcomed change, but at the same time the gear quality bonuses are negligible towards their overall survivability or damage potential. White gear is sufficient to get the job done. Personally I don't see that as a good progression system if that was the intent ZoS was aiming for. I would have just stuck with giving companions player gear sets. It would have opened way more build diversity, provide greater entertainment value, and increase longevity with the companion system as you try out new builds and play other content to grab specific sets.

Oh man, that would have been sweet! I was hoping for that too, but I get why they didn't do it. It likely would have been a balancing nightmare, not to mention all the bugs that no doubt would have come about because of it.

I imagine they tested it, and found it to be impractical. That's pure speculation of course, but it sure seems like just using the gear that's already in the game would have been the easier & more obvious route; they had to have a good reason not to go that way, I reckon.

Companions are a tool that has to be used properly. They are one of those things that the player has to design and then pay attention to, and that is different from games like Skyrim. In terms of combat, these are an upgrade to Skyrim, and I hope that BGS takes a close look at these when they do TES 6. I would definitely like to have had more control over Lydia, et al.

So, yes, fully leveled with purple gear is very much a desired situation that players should be working towards.

Honestly, is it worth it at all?

Does the damage boost from Aggressive Purple Gear actually result in a notable performance difference with Companions? Going from 3k DPS to 6k DPS doesn't really mean much, especially with how frail and bad at combat Companions are...

Yep, drop rates are abysmal at this point, ut farming is what it is for other sought after things i suppose (MS inferno staff, etc.).

I am confused though. I play on xbox NA server. The NPCs on console don't seem to have the white gears. I was planning to make a tank out of Bastion, but i guess he will be a medium armor staff expert o.O.

Anyone know if there is a specific location to check NPCs for basic gear? Am I missing something perhaps? TYIA

Someone posted in a different thread that there's a place in Shadowfen that has all of them right together. I think that was a PC player, but should be there for consoles as well. What I don't remember is WHERE in Shadowfen it was - I'd guess run a search on the forum, or just look in Stormhold and Hissmir maybe?

I don't know, I've been grinding public dungeons to get Mirri's level up and I've been able to equip her in all blue (actually one of my very first companion pieces was a purple resto staff), plus sell a bunch, then buy a few replacement pieces with the gold I made (for better traits). I don't think the drop rate is THAT bad. Had her pretty well equipped long before she hit lvl 20.

I found the best way to level is PD's because they have lots of big trash groups that you can take out really fast.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to be able to craft it as well, and maybe down the road ZOS will make things easier. But as it is the new system right now, they want people to spend lots of time on it.

Apart from those who enjoy a barnyard full of pets following them around everywhere, it won't take long before this will be the general consensus. The reward is simply not worth the effort.

Yesterday I was soloing COA1 with Mirri as a healer. On the last boss fight, one of the twins starts chasing her, ignoring my attempts to get aggro. She runs so far away with the boss chasing her it resets the instance. Many layers of stupid going on here. They're like eating a half baked cake without any frosting. :/

You can do a 4 man dungeon like FG1 solo. All the bosses can drop loot and there is no cool down timer like for WB or public dungeons.
