The problem with Oblivion portals and the DeadLands.

I was going through the blackwood story with a friend who is new to the game. We actually found a oblivion portal and it was really exciting.

Before I rant I want to say I think oblivion portals are a great addition to the game. However the big problem is this.

When we went in, everything was mostly dead. We starting running through and stuff would respawn. When we got to the FINAL boss it was already dead. We waited for it to respawn and fought it and got our loot. We decided to wait since it apparently would respawn and sure enough it did. We also got the chest twice.

Kinda feels wierd. I was expecting after the boss is defeated then it gives some dialogue of the boss dying and lets everyone out. Then when the next wave of oblivion portals appear they bring in a fresh instance. Making it a public dungeon just makes it odd too. The whole hype of oblivion portals was just a public dungeon. Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing, feels amazing, sounds amazing and clearly alot or hard work went into it. Especially seeing rhe giant lamia snaking around. However the mechanics of the dead lands aren't seperated enough from actual public dungeons (see enemies respawning randomly and the boss being dead when you get to it).

Again I can't stress it enough. I'm extremely happy the developers tried something new and I absolutely love it since it gives me "Realm of the Mad God" vibes. But I personally feel like it requires some tweaking in code to feel perfect.

Edit: if a dev reads this remember when you make something harder scale the rewards off difficilty. That's why I think harrowstorms were a huge miss for greymoor even though they were outstandingly good graphically.

Yes, somehow the feeling of having "achieved" something great is missing in the end. My hope was that it will be similar like in TES IV Oblivion, that in the end you have to destroy a sigil stone and with that the enemy is defeated and you will be thrown back to Tamriel.

Idk I kinda like the way they've implemented it.
It saves a lot of time for people who want to farm them as they won't have to run around looking for a new portal just to go through a tunnel of mobs to reach the boss

I'm disappointed with them to, and while it's cool to encounter them, I am quickly disappointed at the difficulty. It's the same as a Summerset Geyser and the final boss only has a million or so HP and minions that die in a single AoE blast making them actually weaker than the standard overland opponent. Sure the boss has a strong blast like attack during his invincibility phase, but the only people that die to it are glassy players with no food buff. I'm not going back to these things if they're this brain dead easy and basically just a delve.

Idk if this is a pun about dagon but I'll answer seriously anyways.

Realm of the mad god was a 2d, pixel buet hell based MMO. The main premise is killing these mini bosse, basically world bosses, to open a portal to the 'real of the mad god' which gave insanely good loot and had alot of people die. Once it opens I think everyone gets transported and they have to run and dodge any enemies and break through walls that block the path.

Oblivion portals remind me that because
    1. The portals
    2. A large amount of people being in the instance and rushing to end in a 'stream' of people.
    3. A large boss at the end that is difficult.

That's why I said it gave me those kind of vibes.

That's the thing though. It shouldn't be like that. It feels unrealistic and it doesn't feel like a actual threat.

It's both better and worse than the geysers. It's better because the boss feels chaotic. I saw it dash through a group of us and knocked us down. 3 people died from it. So that was a great experience.

The reason it's worse is geysers had more boss variety than 1 and I believe it actually scaled to how many people were there.

Just like good old Dolmens, not the ones we have now that can be soloed even at level 1
Sarcasm is something too serious to be taken lightly

I was born with the wrong sign
    In the wrong house
    With the wrong ascendancy
    I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
Used the wrong method with the wrong technique

Harrowstorms and Dragons were released with some genuine criticisms too and tweaks were made to them.

Just be vocal and honest and fair about what you don't like and I bet changes can be made!

I think it was more of a lack of rewards. tbh. The rewards were the same but they upped the difficulty. That's why I think people were upset. They should've added more rewards for dragons and especially harrowstorms. I don't read patch notes alot so can I ask what changes they made to both of them?

I find the portals boring and the final boss is no near as difficult as HS, same for his adds but fight is extended by his stupid shield
