I might be dumb, but how do I level companion armour?

edit: Thank you all. It's wear at least 5 pieces of one type to gain xp for it.

Bastion's medium armour is at level 6, but his light and heavy have not budged. I am wearing a mixture of medium and light at the moment. But I have worn all 3 weights here and there.

Companion gear has levels? Oh god....

Also, you can't, you can't enchant, upgrade or transmute companion gear.

Have to have minimum of 3 of the armour, but the more of one kind you have the faster (its still very slow) it increases.

What you wear has no effect on what they level. You have to equip them with companion gear heavy and light armor for those to level. You can pick up white Heavy armor in Deshaan from the Armorer, Light from the Tailor and Medium armor from the Leatherworker in Shadowfen for example.

Do you need 3 pieces to level, or 3 pieces to unlock the armor skill line? Once unlocked the skill should level no matter how many pieces you have on.

Unless this works differently than our armor skills do.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

"Companion equipment does not include level" check out the patch notes for more information.

I think what people are talking about are the armor skill lines, not the armor pieces themselves.

Bastian needs to be wearing the different weights of armor in order for his skill lines to level.

So isn't there supposed to be a vendor somewhere that sells white quality gear? So then we could at least equip the weight we wanted?

I went to Blackwood in the main city but I imagine it's everywhere.

    On the map in town
    Armorer - Sells heavy armor
    Leatherworker - Sells medium armor
    Tailor - Sells light armor
    Weaponsmith - Sells melee weapons
Woodworker - Sells staves (shield too probably didn't check that)

    And yeah it's all white.

This required 3 of a type to open the line and 5 of a single type to level on the first two weeks of the PTS. I can’t remember if it changed.

Going 5-1-1 leveled only the type of which the companion was wearing 5. Going 3-3-1 leveled none of them.

Vitus is right. I needed to equip 5 pieces of one type to gain any xp for it.

It works differently than player armor skills do, at least if the tooltip can be believed. According to the tooltip on the XP bar for the armor skills:
"Improve this skill by earning combat XP while your active companion has at least 5 pieces of Medium Armor equipped.
Equip your companion with additional pieces of Medium Armor to increase this skill's advancement."

The other armor lines have the same tooltip, so no mixing and matching to passively earn armor XP on all the lines simultaneously. Your companion can earn armor skill XP on only one line at a time.

Just double checked due to this thread you need 3 pieces to unlock the skill line then 5 pieces equipped to level one armor line at a time.

Utterly stupid should be able to level all three lines just like with our own armor.

How do I mark a post as the answer to help people who open this topic?

The original poster (you) has to create a topic that is "Ask a Question" in the drop down menu then they choose a reply to be the solution. If they don't choose a reply to be a solution then the forum keeps spamming them someone has replied to the thread.
