Party Members Shouldn't Affect YOUR Companion's Rapport

I quest in a party with my wife a lot. We both had out our Mirri companion. I used the Blade of Woe, and my wife's Mirri got mad at her and she lost rapport with Mirri. (As did I, with my Mirri.)

That's absolutely ridiculous. We shouldn't have to worry that someone in our group is going to upset our companions. I don't think other group members' actions should have an effect on our companions.

Edit: My wife reminded me that I killed an NPC. I didn't steal when she lost rapport. My bad. I have a terrible memory.

I agree. Someone else's actions should not result in you companions rapport changing.

Odd, My wife's actions haven't been affecting my companions rapport, and we played for many hours yesterday... Will have to double check this.

Are you sure she was actually losing rapport? Like did she see the tool tip on the lower right corner of the screen? Or did she just hear mirri mention her distaste for it? Ive had my companion voice her dislike of something a party member is partaking in, but I never actually lose rapport unless I do a thing.

I didn't think Mirri had a complaint about stealing. I thought that was just Bastian.

Yep. Just did a test. My wife used the blade of woe and I lost rapport with MY companion.

Well, they are companions, not pets, not assistants. They can hear, see, and understand what happens around them. The whole rapport system is meant to be something from the role playing realm, or at least sold as such. So it makes sense that your murder-opposed friend is mad with you for deciding to hang out and fully cooperate (= group up) with people that murder in cold blood for some evil deity. So you have to make a choice - hang around with one or the other.

The companions not being one-fits-all is a big plus in my book. That said, I really hope they add more companions soon, so that there actually is one for, well, if not every, at least most kinds of characters. I got lucky in having a character that has a lot in common with Bastian, but I guess characters of the "murdering scum" variety won't find a friend right now.

I think this one is specifically because Bastion loses rapport upon entering combat with an innocent, killing an innocent, and leaving combat. So even if you didn't commit the crime, you were grouped and entered combat. I'm not positive, just speculating here.

She has no issues with stealing, killing is diffident.

I may be missing something but how do we know specifically when rapport increases or decreases and by how much? some sort of scale on the bar and some number/metric would be useful.

I think its a great idea if that has been implemented, they aren't pets, they have their own ideas about what they like and don't like. If you are grouped with someone and they don't like the stealing, grabbing bugs etc, its their electronic way of expressing their opinion

I'm 'the wife' and thank you for the LOL moment with my first cuppa XD

As to companions taking hits from group members o.O ZoS really???
[snip] since real group members will indeed take heat if you do a nono,
guess the companions are just group mates after all, ha!

So basically, if you ever go adventuring with a friend and a companion out, you're gonna have to put away your companion each and every time your group mate decides to loot a thieves' trove (yes, it counts as stealing)? I can see this ending badly, especially if your group mate keeps forgetting to TELL you they found a thieves' trove.

You get separated, your friend finds a trove and opens it without thinking, suddenly your companion is losing rapport.

Also, it's going to get quickly annoying to put him away each and every time you find a trove yourself.

I can also see "group mates can affect your companion's rapport with you" being a good set up for other players griefing each other. Especially if your group mate decides to go through a killing rampage through town and you can't put away the companion because you're stuck in combat constantly.

Better to never group up with strangers ever again if you want a companion out.

I ran through the vampire quest for the xth time yesterday, with Mirri. She couldn't care less about the whole thing. I was gonna comment that she didn't even care about me sucking someone dry but it was one of the hostiles just outside the vampire shrine in Reaper's Marsh. Might be different if it was an innocent. But with rapport being so slow I'm hesitant to try that...
Using the ultimate didn't get any reaction out of her.

Does proximity matter? Could you see when the other person used blade of woe?

Yes. We haven’t done any tests dealing with proximity.
