We generally only get character slots with a new class, next chapter will probably have a new class if the devs feel like making more (honestly i feel like we dont need any more) but tldr no unless new class

Why do you need to create a new character to buy and play Blackwood?

I mean, I myself plan to create a new character so I can grab the inn room for free-- but I could just buy it for 3000.

And I'd like to play through the new tutorial-- but I've already done that on the PTS.

So, given that there's no new class or race being added by Blackwood, I'm honestly curious why creating a new character is apparently a necessity for you?

The new tutorial showcases a legendary place in lore that I would personally love to see as well. However, like many people, I'm maxed out on alts and absolutely won't delete one, which leaves people like me out in the cold when trying to enjoy the new tutorials (I don't have access to the PTS). That's at least one reason, although I could list off many multiple reasons why they should be releasing more characters slots.

Maybe create a new character on the other server you normally play on? If you play on PC/NA, make one on the EU server, etc.

(Note: Not sure if this is possible on consoles.)

To provide additional context about the new tutorial:

It has absolutely nothing whatever to do with the Blackwood expansion. Zero. You miss nothing about Blackwood by skipping this tutorial.

It's a new tutorial designed to be the future 'consistent tutorial experience' across all future chapters, instead of making a new tutorial each chapter.

At the end you're literally given a room full of portals to various locations you might start adventuring in. Elsweyr, West Skyrim, Vvardenfell, base game alliance areas, Summerset. They drop you off in the zone and you're on your own, the tutorial might as well have been all a dream.

And no, you don't get to do the original tutorials for those zones. You're thrown into the place *after* those tutorials ended, and don't get to do the story.

So for Elsweyr you're dumped outside the previous Elsweyr tutorial monastery but you can't go in.

When I did the tutorial on PTS I went to the Blackwood portal. I may as well have entered via wayshrine, the NPC quest starter made absolutely no mention about me appearing from a portal or anything.

Quite bizarre really. Blackwood quest starter is basically, "Oh you're a stranger I have no reason to trust! Want to get involved in local politics?"

I just upgraded early for the Nagahide Welwa Ravager mount. Still got plenty of character slots left. At the price of the upgrade compared to the collection though a new character slot would of been welcome. I guess they want to keep the base game cheap in order to bring new players in.

Yeah, I agree-- especially since the new tutorial is part of Update 30 and has nothing to do with the Blackwood chapter per se.

Well it's obviously some of you do not understand the disease of Alt-aholicism, You see since ESO has a wide variety of play styles for every class, and though I have 18 toons, I still don't have a Khajiit Stam-blade, that's what I was going to make next. I also still need my Nord Ice-Tank, an Altmer MagDk, etc... I want to play them all!!!

Oh, I get it. :) I just don't have that many characters yet-- 7 on PC EU, and 8 on PC NA-- and it's time-consuming enough for me to play on just 2 of them.

What I don't quite get is that ZOS has supposedly said that the servers-- or databases, or whatever-- can't handle more than 18 character on each account, so they have no intention of ever adding any more purchaseable slots. I don't know that I've read that statement myself, but others have alluded to it whenever the request for more slots comes up.

And yet-- and here's the part I don't get-- people can create additional accounts, purchase additional copies of the game for those additional accounts, and purchase up to 18 additional characters per server on those additional accounts. It seems like that must surely be putting more strain on the databases and servers than just adding another purchaseable slot or 2 would.

Note, I'm not saying that as a way of advocating for more slots, because I've already got plenty of room to grow still-- 2 free slots left on PC EU, and 1 on PC NA, and then 9 more I can purchase on each server after that. It's more that I'm scratching my head wondering whether requiring alt-aholics to create additional accounts that can each have up to 18 characters might be making a bad situation worse as far as the strain on the databases is concerned.

I've deleted fully maxed out characters just for the weird dopamine injection experience of making my 547th alt, so I feel your pain @Obsidian3. That said, I was equal parts excited and wary to visit Isle Balfiera...and it looks like I was right to be wary. Unfortunately, you aren't missing anything from the experience that you can't get from looking at a single screenshot of the portal room. Waste of a location with so much potential IMO.

create a second account then you'll have another 18 slots or whatever it is and you'll be able to do all the alts you want cp has gotten a lot easier to grind and you'll have an excuse to get all your collections again

My own choice was to buy the chapter (actually, prebuy it) without deleting anything.

Hoping to be of help I'm listing some pro's and con's.

    Pro:
The environment is gorgeous and varied
Secondary quests are, in most cases, fun and interesting (more than the main story, IMO), and there are many of them
Delves and dungeons are well designed and fun to explore
    World bosses are not banal

    Con:
    Eveli (sigh)
Too many "speak to..." in order to beef the quests
Not many new overland monsters, and those ones are uninteresting
The visual magic of the underland world of WS is missing

I leave the companions aside, this is too personal to judge. I myself do not enjoy them.

Yeah I had a 2nd account, I un-subbed it and shut it down when they took Rapids Away from us. Back then it was bad enough grinding my main account to Assault 5 I wasn't going to grind another set of toons. So my decision now is Reactivate the old account or delete my NecroMag.

I have never said this about a ESO expansion before...In it's current stage I would pass...I honestly wish I didn't purchase it. Starting out it was great but the flaws hit you like a ton of Bricks.

Maybe I should just replay Oblivion and remember when.

a Overland that is mostly empty, boring, and cringey

Probably the single worse Tutorial in gaming today

The Companions feel like a fan project and are nowhere near what was promised.

    Oblivion Portals so underwhelming

The quest are boring full stop

We get it... men are weak stupid and irredeemably flawed, their gender makes them this way. Women on the other hand are strong, slayers who continually save the day. Cringe level 50 out of a 1-10 scale.

It's great you like it and will probably reply with an exasperated list of why I'm wrong....it still sucks.

Doesn’t really require a list arguing why you are wrong. What you posted are opinions and not objective flaws. Most seem to like it but hey enjoy your time doing other things.
