Ironman mode for new toons?

Allow us to create and play an Ironman toon. These toons can’t be boosted or upgraded in the crown store, like they can’t unlock sky shards, use exp scrolls, ect...

They can’t use guild traders or trade with other players, can’t trade in dungeons also. Can’t receive mail either. Ironman toons have their own separate bank. The only way to get gear is by questing, farming mats to craft gear, ect...

They’re allowed to group but not get shared experience.

Pve bonuses as Ironman 20% damage reduction, 20% increased damage

Pvp bonuses 10% damage reduction and 10% increased damage

Thoughts?

    I mean, I have an Iron Vestige toon, which is my permadeath character.

    We have a set of restrictions for them and if they die, they get deleted and replaced with a new one.

    Other than the extra damage and damage reduction, there is nothing stopping you from creating your own version of an "Ironman"

    You had me right up until you suggested bonuses specific to this game mode. I'll vote a big no on that one. If you want all those penalties you mentioned, you can already do that yourself. If you want 20% increased damage by not spending money in the crown store? That's never going to happen.

    Well, I mean, if you want to do those self-imposed restrictions, nothing is stopping you?

    I don't need my ARPGs to create an enforced "solo, self-found" mode, for me to play them that way, after all. Just need to have some self-control.

    So someone merely transfers items to another toon to sell to other players?

    I see this as something that would become a requirement for leaderboard runs and for PvP. As such it is probably not something that would be good for the game.

    For as long as the 'ironman' characters share server and can group with non-'ironman' characters the PvE and PvP bonuses are a 'no' for me.

    if they implmented this all that would happen at the end of the day is that you would have a character running around with permamnt buffs over characters that were created before this terrible idea was added which would what little balance we already have to begin with.

    so it's a hard no.

    I agree with basically everyone else here. The bonuses are unnecessary and would cause balance issues and make these characters basically required for groups so unless they're on a separate server that's a bad idea.

    If you want the fun of playing the game in a slightly different way you can impose whatever rules and restrictions you like and don't need ZOS to give you permission. I know of people who have already done permadeath characters (delete them if they die), ones who are not allowed to withdraw items or gold from the bank or use anything they didn't receive as a drop or quest reward, ones who can only use lower level gear or some combination of restrictions.

    All you need to do is decide what you want the rules to be and then make sure you stick to them, and if you don't that's a pretty clear indication you're not actually enjoying it and need to re-think them. (It happens, I once made a character in another game with a 'no fast travel' rule, then found I'd just stop playing them whenever I had to go long distances because I knew it would be boring, so I amended it to allow certain forms of fast travel only.)

    HARD NO, those bonuses are utterly ridiculous, the no trading and self farming self-crafted gear is NOWHERE NEAR the penalty you seem to think it is.

    A person can max level a new account in all crafting/level and have enough CP in 4 weeks to easily be an OP griefer in PVP and make most PVE content trivial with those bonuses.

    The only limit would be traits as they would be time-locked but a little planning could easily work around that for the ones a person really needs.

    As for the bank thing, I would guess a serious database rewrite would be required and they already have problems with things like space in housing, absolutely not worth dev time for what would at best be a small niche. At worse a small niche that would really just be a set of griefers.

    Wanting more things just given to you to make the gameplay easier. That's gonna be a big no from most people, no matter what you're willing to give up to compensate.

    There's plenty of things *you* can do to increase the challenge without ZOS having to spent any development cycles.

    I think anything for power advantage isn’t great. Imagine leveling your character and going to vss and dying in an ice cage due to an inexperienced healer.

    Setting self boundaries and rules can be fun for sure.

    Easier to do in single player games. But some multi have it.

    I almost wish (very unlikely) to have an iron man instance or something. Plus.... let’s be honest players are trolls.... I don’t want dungeons and trials where others are TRYING to get Ironman players killed.

    Just a thought.

    Actually, I think there's some validity to the idea for the PVE side of things.

    Most players are just not good at DPS. Having a "supper toon" would be fun for them. You could make it just for solo, or limited group play, and not allow you to win any achievements or other rewards (or maybe lesser versions) if they are used. They would basically be just for "fun" in that it would allow beating harder content just for the pure enjoyment of it for players who would never get to experience it otherwise.

    It think the idea of 4 super toons taking on a trial would be a blast! :)

    How many months before someone is asking for a token to turn their Ironman character into a normal one instead because they got sick of the restrictions but don't want to lose the time they spent on the character?

    You can already make restrictions yourself on how you play a character, if you have so little self control that you know your going to cheat, if you don't have forced restrictions, then I don't think an Ironman mode was ever going to be something for you to begin with.

    As for the Ironman mode itself when I think of something like that I usually associate it with penalties for your character getting killed, in the worst case perma death, which should never be in any game as far as I am concerned.

    If you want bonuses you mentioned you should have a real penalty to go with it, all that you mentioned just requires you not to open the crown store, visit guild traders, not open mail on that character, the extra bank frees you from inventory management which is more of a bonus etc.. no real penalty there as far as I am concerned to justify the bonuses you wanted.

    Bare minimum penalty for the bonuses you wanted to me would be, you can only use soul gems to charge weapons, you die, you get logged out of that character for an hour, maybe even 24hrs, you can still play your other characters though.
