Seriously, MORE maintenance?

So 11 hours of maintenance on Monday wasn't enough? I just got back into playing ESO after 2 years and I convinced 3 friends to get into it as well this time. Really starting to regret it now as it's very frustrating that there's so much maintenance going on - I don't have the luxury of playing whenever I want to and now have to filter in when the game is actually available to play. Is this a new thing where there is maintenance twice a week now? Guess we'll have to start looking for something else to play together

I feel you, this game is in a sorry state and after the next big patch it's going to get even worse. I am seriously considering just cancelling my Blackwood Pre-Order.

It's actually the third time this week the game gets shut down for maintenance. A bit more communication/details from ZOS would be nice

Well, the dark red banner suggests 'emergency maintenance'. Any game can have that happen, and people will generally be grateful for it, since it must be something important that needs to be fixed.

Pretty clearly not. 1) again, note the emergency-red notice, and 2) note that it's not for all the servers, just one. If there was actual "twice a week standard maintenance" it would be for all the servers.

I agree. I have always preferred games that were maintained more than not. They apparently found a backend issue they feel important enough to handle.

It is the absence of any communication that irritates me. At least have the basic courtesy to tell your customers why they cannot access the product they have paid for.

I wouldn't mind as much if they had given more of an advance notice. Now it was announced less than an hour before the maintenance, and it hit smack in the middle of a planned guild event. This maintenance hits prime time afternoon hours in the EU.

Edit: looking at the error reports from just before the server was taken down, it seems this was an "uh-oh" maintenance where something just crashed on the back end. The lack of advance notice is understandable, but still annoying.

Maintenance only seems fair, if u dont live in eu. eu maintenance is always, when we come home from work, to when we go to bed.

Just try move the maintenance, 6/8 hour forward, and see if the the ppl on NA servers, think these maintenance are so good.

Nothing significant ever appears to get fixed during maintenance apart from new patch bugs, so once those are cleared dup (on ignored) how is maintenance of any benfit? What was fixed on Monday? First it was extended, and then something was obviously broken, hence today's unscheduled maintenance, so how is any maintenance better than no maintenance?

Maintenance is a necessary evil. Imagine ESO in an even worse state than now, so it will be if there are no such maintenance

I came back to this game after 6 months, and was greeted with that whopping 11 hour maintenance (I only got to log in on Tuesday morning hours)... I hoped, wished, they'd managed to find a way to not break PC-EU every time, but they still do it. It tires me, but at least I know why: ESO is running on a really old engine, that isn't really meant to hold such a giant player population. Someone speculated that it's not because of the servers, the engine just can't keep up. And that's what they're patching. PC-NA doesn't have this issue as it has so many time zones, while Europe has only 3. What happens when a ton of players log in and populate the server simultaneously? Those 1 h queue "bugs" weren't bugs, it was very real and I got in after the timer went to 0.

I know I joke a lot about these maintenances, but it's actually a miracle ESO even IS up and running. The issues might be solved by dividing the megaservers into worlds, which players could freely enter, like is in Black Desert Online. I have no idea how they could implement this, but I really wish they'd do this for the game's sake. The players' love is causing this, and it's very sad.

I was in Craglorn a few hours ago. NPC's didn't move after being attacked. AoE's didn't show and neither did they work. Monster Set didn't trigger. Crafting nodes weren't accessible. Character disconnected. Got back in, teleported to Vvardenfell and everything seemed to be okay.

Oh, and lately this happens quite regularly, whenever I'm transformed into a Were Wolf, the first two/three fights everything's fine, and after a few fights Brutal Pounce becomes unavailable and stays unavailable. Has anyone else encountered this problem before? Is this supposed to be that way?

Anyways, if Craglorn is anything to go by, then it seems maintenance is necessary. It's just a bummer that it has happened three times already, so I haven't really been able to make good use of this event. I am curious though, do you think ESO will be hosted on a new server somewhere in the foreseeable future and do you think a new server would help/solve some of the issues?

I really hope it won't take longer than two hours!

I wish maintenance actually did something useful for Cyrodiil. It's complete trash at the moment. You jump back in RIGHT after maintenance, come across 30-40 players and everything starts lagging. I have to push my skills 3-4 times before they even work, what the hell is this crap!? How is this deemed suitable to be "playable"? Playable doesn't mean it's okay if it only works half the time - Do something.

I mean, how costly would it be to implement the most basic form of load balancing/business continuity servers.

Even increased lag would be acceptable instead of not being able to play the game at all.
As long as they display a warning yellow banner so you know what to expect, I'd be ok with that.

Hey, things happen, but as others have said it is the lack of communication with the people that play the game that irritates me.

Customer service is really a thing.

Maintenance isn't just about fixing things, it's also about preventing things from breaking even more than they should. Imagine if they never did Maintenance at all. How long do you think the uptime for all of the servers would be before they all eventually crashed and we could not log into the game anymore? I'm sure you wouldn't want them to just spin up the servers once, then walk away and never do anything with them again....no windows updates, no driver updates, no firmware updates, no restarting windows services, no memory dumps, nothing.

I'm sure you'd be on the forums complaining that something needs to be done to prevent this from happening again...and they'd say "How about...we do regular maintenance on the servers, and reboot them regularly?" You'd say "Yes, why aren't you already doing that???".

The good news is, they already are....like every company who hosts services on servers.

ZOS are doing it for you. FOR YOU, FOR ALL OF US. Yes, I may be kind of stubborn when I write about continuity issues, but when we're talking about technical part we must be patient. Telling the truth, I'm afraid saying something like "TESO isn't your life, go do something useful", because of course there's going to be people who "find a relief" in this game because of something and who take this maintenances close to their hearts... But even so, if you're able to play TESO, you're able to do something real-life effecting as well. Just wait for some little time and it's going to be okay.

@iksde, from my perspective, I agree that TESO has some "cheapness". If you look through my recent posts (and it's not self-promotion but a simple laziness to include any links), you may find that I'm worried about continuity issues that's left after One Tamriel update... but probably were there even before it. This lack of explanation is cheapness indeed.

However, as I said before, we should wait patiently until maintenances end to be respectful to those people who do their technical job with the education they have. TESO is a good game from a technical perspective. Even though there's no physics rather than simple gravitation, it feels fine. I see no reason to criticize this aspect of the game.

I honestly don't mind active maintenance, I think its a sign of a healthy system if it gets regular patches and maintenance.

What does peeve me is the usual times being in US nighttime and EU daytime.

If these could rotate, so US and EU bare the burden of occasionally daytime maintenance I'd be much happier.
