Ability to turn off Zone Chat

Guild chat / Zone chat. I often leave it up to support guild functions, dungeon runs and other content. However, every day there are idiots and perverts spamming the zone chat. It is off putting to say the least. Can we please have a function to turn off certain chats? Changing the color doesn't help because it still scrolls the chat box.

I am tired of ignoring it, and I hate having to hide my screen or tell my kids to look away as they walk by. Blocking is an option, but it seems a new idiot is born daily.
I love being able to turn off area voice. I would like the same for chat.

I am on PC, but guessing you're on console with the mention of area voice. I'm not sure if this blocks the entire chat hud or you have options, but try this:
Options => Social =>Turn off chat hud

Hopefully other console players will chime in if there are better options.

No matter how many features they have to filter profanity, they will always ban people for cursing in this rated M game.

On PC you can just create a new tab and select only the channel you want to see, EG guild1, guild2, etc. I can't imagine that was removed from the console UI.

Yeah, im on PS4. So turning off the chat hud turns it all off. A PC add like mentioned would be welcome.

I don't care that people want to curse or be rude. As you say, it is a M rated game.

I just would like the option to not have to see it while enjoying other game content. The guilds are pretty clean for the most part. Zone is just toxic.

I did this lol . I named it Quiet and turned all the chats off 😇

Yeah, would be quite a poor decision to remove that from console. @kilroy5250 could you check if you can create a new chat tab, there should be options to not include zone chat. This is not an add on for PC, it is an built-in ESO feature.

I am not recommending remove zone chat. Like I said, I don't really care what other people want to do. I just want an option to not have to see it.

Oh that is unfortunate. I used the wrong phrase. It doesn't remove it, it just filters out the chat. You can switch between your normal chat tab and your filtered chat tab. You can think of it as toggling the visibility of zone chat.

I'm in awe PS4 doesn't have it.

I really don't understand why when they (finally) added text chat to consoles they went to the trouble of removing useful features which already exist on PC. I would have thought it would actually be less work to copy it over unchanged.

But yes, I agree there should be more options to customise chat tabs on consoles, its a very useful feature even if you do want to see everything. For example I have a dedicated tab for each of my guilds so if there's a conversation going on which I want to follow I can just click over to that tab to see it without all the other stuff getting in the way, then when I'm done I swap back to the main tab and see everything again.

That's... really odd. They're adding all these add-on features to console now, but nothing as basic as chat tabs. It must be really hard to manage guild events.

I never turn off any chat. The leader of a guild I used to be in turned off zone chat in the guild house during a guild event, which resulted in her not hearing someone, making the player think they were just being ignored. They ended up quitting.

But one thing I do when zone chat is particularly offensive is announce that I will be reporting all the offenders. I know some players think that's a weak threat that won't have any consequences, but you'd be surprised how often that calms things down.

I prefer dealing with the offenders as opposed to just hiding from them.

Agree with this. Zone chat is toxic af and I despise having it constantly disrupt the flow of my chats in groups and guilds. Let us turn this trash off on console!

Yeah, I hate having to go to Auridon as well. I’ve gotten used to just shutting the whole thing off whenever I go to a zone I know has moronic zone chatters.

Yes, please!

Zone chat used to be humorous, but it’s so offensive now. On console there are so many trolls, and so many immature attention seekers.

Like the OP, I’d like to turn that off but keep guild chat text on.
