Critical vs Critical rating...

Can someone please tell me what the difference is. I am looking at Mother's Sorrow vs Treasure Hunter. TH gives a crit rating as its 5th bonus. Is that better than flat crit?

TH vs MS - the difference is that it gives Major Prophecy which can be obtained from other sources as for example spell power potion or skills and it is way more dependent on grind and rng to get treasure hunter... it still can be used as it can free skill slot or give option for tristat potions.

People dont use treasure hunter because major prophecy is gained through inner light, which also gives a 5% gain to max mag. And magic controller passive (2% incrased mag and mag regen per ability) so you can front bar shooting star to boost it to 4%

They are the exact same stat. TH just includes the full name for the stat category. The wording for tooltip descriptions are notoriously sloppy in this game.
The other responses are correct to point out the sets differences in that the bonus from MS can be stacked with all other sources of crit chance/rating whereas TH gives a named buff to your crit chance/rating that won't stack with other sources of that same buff, such as potions or Inner Light.

Critical Rating is a sloppy way to handle critical chance in ESO. The only reason it even exists is due to sub-50 characters and gear quality. A non-max level character or person with lower quality geared would get the same crit buffs as a max level character or gold gear character would.

Frankly, rating should go away and flat percent numbers should be reintroduced. ZoS can easily use 0.5% intervals for gear quality and call it a day. No more confusion and no more stupid percent ratings ending in useless values like 6.08%, 7.2%, and 2.92%.

@Vercingetorix Good points, I agree completely. It could be a lot more intuitive with % crit shown, and that more than one decimal place is pointless. All those examples feel very familiar.
