Cannot apply Glyph to piece of gear

I have several pieces of epic CP160 gear that I am trying to apply epic CP160 Truly Superb Glyph of Magicka.

For example, this armor piece:

Here's the glyph:

But this happens when I try and charge it:

The enchant is in my inventory. I thought it could be a bug, so I logged out and back in, and I still cannot enchant the item with the glyph.

Help me understanding what am I doing wrong?

It looks like you already have the Magic Enchant on the item. So, applying a new Glyph won't do anything, so the game stops you. They added this feature so you would not waste a Glyph. Of course, the game does not stop you from making the glyph....

You can test this by making then trying to apply a Stamina or Health Glyph to the piece. It is early and before coffee, but you could also test with a Gold or Kuta based Glyph of Magica. I think you may already be maxed though.

Are you -Mione, or did someone make this gear for you? I frequently put Gold Glyphs on anything I make for someone else, as I have hundreds of Kutas.

Someone was kind enough in game to explain that head, chest, and leg pieces get the glyph's full value where the other pieces have hard caps (e.g. feet go up to a max of 324). This is tribal level knowledge that I wish I knew about. The game doesn't really explain this well in-game.

Agreed, however there are two really good sources of information for the game:

    In Game

F1 for the Help Screens, not sure if they specifically call this out, but these are surprisingly helpful.

    On the Web:

A collection of all the tribal knowledge in the series, including this game can be found here:

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page

    For ESO in General

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Online

    And Enchanting

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Enchanting

You find the 40% aspect in the Applying Glyphs section about half way down.

This is one of those wierd things when devs try to apply RL logic to a game and as a result it becomes inconsistent & unintuitive.

It is the same reason why different armor parts have different armor values - despite having same crafting & upgrade cost. It does not make much sense.

I am pretty sure that at some point they will make it to have same enchant & armor value for all pieces.

Long time ago we had 2-handed weapons to count as 1-pc set ... Imagine that now if only way to have 2x 5 pcs bonus + monster was to use dual-wielding or 1h & shield ....

The dev could put in small font hints or tips in the item. For example, they show the set bonuses. So likewise something like that could be shown on Glyphs. Something like:

"The Glyph's maximum value applies to head, chest, legs."

If I saw that would help me understand the limitations.

Epic glyphs will give you the equivalent of purple gear. Legendary will give you the equivalent of gold gear.

Which is why the game will not let you put purple glyphs on purple gear for the trait you already have on the gear
