Can somebody please explain the whole deal with Darien? (Attractiveness)

Why do you think he's so attractive and what do you think actually makes him so attractive to you?

How is it that so many people just completely fall for this guy and always keep bringing him up over and over?

Serious curiosity question cause I don't really feel any connection to any character in-game to that extent. I actually have a hard time taking most NPCs seriously.

Can somebody show me the light please?

I think Darien better watch out. Zone chat in Markarth has been full of people lusting over Ardanir, the NPC who gives out the quests with the new Wayward Guardian motif reward.

he is flirty yet sort of earnest. some people find it appealing. me, I'm ok with him, I feel like he is trying a little too hard (well written that way anyways), but to each their own. his model visually has all the hallmarks of a conventionally attractive dude - a sort of Hollywood romantic hero type. so there is that.

I like him way more than most of the others. He is a bit mischievous and a bit flirty and I like that.

Jakarn is flirty but I kind of like him. Darien, he was just sending me on pointless errands when it was imperative that we did what we had to do before Falchou realized I had managed to sneak into the town... and naturally he actually noticed. That's mainly the reason I want to punch him, lol.

I got to admit he did get better as the story progressed, and I did like the whole mystery behind his weird dreams.

Also, don't take me wrong. I don't hate the guy, it's actually neat that the devs managed to make me feel that way about him because that's a character I'm definitely not going to forget. He's kind of generic but he is ok, and the voice acting is nicely done. Still, my favorite main characters are Raz and Naryu. I love those two.

Well this one and Raz is more interesting.
Now at the confrontation with the other three Khajiit ladies Raz ignored Zaria even then she was there with his son.

As you see he is just like his father. Still Raz is something special.

Darien died. He should have stayed dead. I hate when ZOS brings back characters that died in my story. So Darien is a pest. While he was living, he was meh.

He's pretty much the Disney Prince trope - handsome, funny but a little dumb, flirty - and then add in the tragic stuff and you have a recipe for admirers, I think.

Personally, I mostly like his goofy naive vibe - he's well-intentioned but a little dopey. I actually like all three original "companion" characters - Raz and Naryu offer the same kind of lighthearted entertainment while making your way through the different factions.

I'm not into Darien at all. He seems like he would chase anyone and personally I prefer a character that is only interested in my character if we are talking on a romantic level. I would find over flirtatiousness and discussing all the other npcs he likes extremely off putting.

I think NPCs fall for him due to his being a..

Demi-Prince. His mother is Meridia.

hahaha, yeah, definitely. Oh I loved when I made her blush in the Eastmarch questline, when I suggested the dress looked good on her.

It's not the flirty part what makes me want to punch him, it's that he's always in the middle of a mess he somehow created. Like that time he rushed into a place full of necromancers and got all his batallion poisoned. When I reached him I was like; dude... just stay here, don't move and for the love of Hircine, don't-touch-anything.

YES. Naryu is just oozes competence and i love it. Raz also gets into messes a lot, but he also tends to rescue himself from most of them, if you are familiar with Grishaverse by any chance, Raz to me has major Jesper vibes. flawed in many ways, but ultimately very good at what he does and charisma through the roof. Darien is a damsel in distress far too often for my personal tastes.

His character arc, and the way he compliments your character. Also some of the dialog in Summerset and Coldharbour made me like the character even more, especially the ones hidden by the persuasion perk lol.

He doesn't do much for me. But I suppose you could say he's sort of a more honest version of Jakarn.

Darien does remind me a bit of one of my exes from my early twenties, who was never going to be marriage material, but he was so cheerful and breezy and upfront about his sketchiness that you set your expectations accordingly and could never be mad at him for being a scoundrel. I'm deeply glad we only dated briefly, but we're also still friends twenty years later. So I could see Darien having that sort of appeal, especially for younger folks.

If he died and came back, he is either zombie or lich. He isnt a magic dealer, so Darien is a zombie. That should kill any romantic notions right there. Unless you are a necro-romancer.... pun intended.

I'm not attracted to any character, so I honestly couldn't tell you why.

I'll never forget the scene when I came through the door and saw him sitting there with the bread in his hand ... Maybe he behaves in a way - as some have said this slightly dopey, naive - that reminds some people of someone they know in irl. At least he reminds me of someone I knew and that makes him a character who seems particularly "alive", like you would be together with an old friend.

In the base game, there are few well-developed characters with story arcs that span across multiple zones. The characters who fit that criteria tend to stand out and be more beloved by fans simply because they are more well-developed and have more "screen time" so to speak. Darien is one such character, but there are others.

As for the appeal of Darien, specifically, amongst these distinguished base game characters? Folks have different tastes. I'd take Neramo any day of the week against the womanizing manwhore Darian comes across as in the base game. If his story arc had him stay a womanizing manwhore I'd despise his character, but fortunately, his arc has more depth to it than that (this is before everything in the expansions).

I agree! Like Jakarn, Darien is attractive and charming. But for romance, I wouldn't trust either one of them when it comes to loyalty. As the saying goes, 'If he'll cheat for you, he'll cheat on you.' More important than the looks and charm is a straightforward, earnest and trustworthy nature. Someone like Merric at-Aswala earns high marks in this regard in my book.

He's not really my type as far as attraction goes, but I did grow to like him enough to be really upset at his fate and to hope that something can be done about it. His growth and development as a person and his sincerity with his help later made me feel friendly toward him. It probably helps that I haven't played any female characters around him so he's never flirted with me. Jakarn isn't really my type either but I'll admit he got me grinning a few times.

I never really cared for Darien. He has too much of a "chosen one" vibe going on, what with him being a chosen one and all. I think my feelings towards him were further soured because DC characters are featured so prominently in Coldharbour while awesome Pact and Dominion characters are left in the dust.

I did like him better in Summerset. He was in a truly impossible situation, which made me feel more sympathetic towards him, and he seemed to have matured a little bit.

Merric! They should bring him back as a major character for a DLC. They wouldn't even have to explain why he's back from the dead or why he lost all of his character development.
