Why must ZoS place overpowered sets in the game and nerf them some time later?

I have NEVER used block in PvP.
I have a build that uses health and shield bubbles.
I have a great amount of sustain.
My damage is average.

This one mythic item has the chance of making me an immortal god.

3X the power of the Mighty Chudan.
Destroys any other defensive set.
Able to invest into other resources.

All because you think 0 block mitigation is a great counter?
Something that cost stamina to do anyways.
I know you may have forgotten this but people can roll dodge as well.

So here's the solution.

Reduce the movement speed by 15%
Place Block mitigation to 0%
Remove any ability to roll dodge.
Reduce shield effectiveness by 25%

Yup I think that balances it out well...or you can bring the stats back down to mortal levels.

Or just be honest on why you do this every update.

Isn't it obvious? Broken gear is the selling point of new chapters/DLCs. Once enough meta frogs buy the new content to grind new gear, they will nerf those items to oblivion.

I wish they would operate things differently, but the model of ‘balance’ seems to be to nerf character skills ever lower in effectiveness so that they can add ever greater and more powerful sets with each new update. I guess these sets help sell expansions?

I take a different attitude on this... They release it balanced to how they want it to work. They change it after a few months of watching how players are actually using it. Repeat. They care more about how everyone uses it rather than what a few people say about it; if the few people are correct, then the observations will support that. They aren't afraid to fiddle and adjust things. Sales and marketing are not an integral part of this process.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They" Zos "wants to sell the latest DLC/Expansion. So they nerf older sets to draw you toward the newer one. Balance is an after thought. THe rub is when people spend money and time to acquire these sets only to have them nerfed to useless state later on. This is a poor business model but has worked for them thus far.

    Easy answer..

To bribe you to buy there content.
Then get you to buy it again to get you to same performance level you were at prior to nerf.

Rinse and repeat under the auspice of "Balancing"

It's going to take a lot more than the Gaze of Sithis to make people immortal. If you doubt me, look me up and I'll introduce you to some battleground groups that will show you what I mean.

I think a lot of people misjudge their defenses because of easier opponents they face and mistake themselves as being invincible. Because an extra 5,000 life, 500 health recovery and 10k armor isn't going to do ____ against the kind of offensive groups of players I come across regularly. They are going to make mincemeat out of that. This mythic might add half a second to your life span (if that).

There’s so many examples, releasing bashing necros in els only to nerf them the next patch, buffing single target dots in scalebreaker to sell Zen then nerfing them in Dragonhold, releasing Thrassian only to nerf it a few months later, releasing Lady Thorn only to nerf major maim in the following patch

There’s more some people can name but thats just off top

Zaan is still really good. Alcast reccomends it for magicka PvE sorcerer. Also I believe stamina builds use some gear from cloudrest.

It is the equivalent of WoW who creates new systems for one expansion that are ditched in the next expansion

This has always been the issue with MMO's that uses the same skills and abilities for both PvE and PvP. You see, more players play PvE than PvP in MMO's so game devs develop content around that play style first. However, this leads to imbalances for both gameplays. The sets changes are great for PvE and that is what they will be catered around at first.

There was some balance before. It was not perfect but still fair and manageable. Then they hired somebody from WoW or something and ESO became WoW with Elder Scroll references in it.

It was then I realized ZoS and ESO would never reach their max potential as they are hell bent on chasing WoW and not being their own thing .

True, but we'll still be buying the next chapter and we'll still grind for these new items, and they'll still be nerfed before December. We're part of the problem to this positive feedback loop 🤣

I think most content creators are a lot of the reason things get nerfed or “balanced”. Anytime someone on YT boast about how awesome a set or skill is and then demonstrates it, followed by players making it the new meta, it’ll get nerfed.
