Shock and Flame enchants on Destruction staff

If you are going for a flame or a shock enchant is it then always better to use a flame enchant on an inferno staff and to use a shock enchant on lightning staffs ?

Why would it be interzsting to use a shock glyphv on an inferno staff OR to use a flame enchant on a lightning staff?

Another Question : i always understood that a light or heavy attack wont provide status effects.

However does a light attack from a inferno staff give fire damage ? And does a LA of a lightning staff provide shock damage ?

Could it be that with a sorcerer you LA with lightning staffs are then indeed always 5% higher damage ?

Does the fire and shock dmg of a LA (not the enchant) have any benefit or use i am not aware of ?

Light attacks should provide the damage type that the staff is if it is going to be used for a proc condition, unless the proc requires it to be from an ability.

Some build will use an inferno glyph on a shock/ice staff and vice versa. This can be seen with magwarden builds where the player wants to proc a number of things. For instance if a healer is wearing Catalyst they might run a fire glyph on a lighting staff to try to get 2 stacks at the same time. Most of these are fairly specific to the build

But typically, yes, you want the glyph to match the staff.

Just to throw this in fyi: enchants dont proc certain sets like ilambris. So running flame enchant on lightning staff wont proc both effects.

Yep. But they used to back in the good ole days when you could proc multiple attacks.

There's no reason to match the enchant to the staff.

But, Wall of Elements has additional effects if the enemy is afflicted by a status effect. So if you have Wall of Flame on your backbar, you might want a flame enchant on your frontbar, regardless of what weapon you're using frontbar. Because the frontbar enchant will proc burning, which causes Wall of Flame from your backbar to deal more damage. Even if the enchant is on a lightnig staff or bow or whatever.

It just depends on what status effect you want to proc. A flame enchant on a shock staff will proc burning and give you an 8% bonus to AoE skills, for example.

Yes, that's right. But they just don't proc the status effects. The first few hits of a lightning staff heavy attack used to proc concussed, but I think it's been fixed?

Well, yes, but Inferno Staves increase your single-target damage by 8%, including light attacks, through one of their passives.

Yes, the enchantment has an increased chance to apply a status condition. Normally, single-target damage has a base 10% chance to apply a status effect, but enchantments have a 20% base chance. With the Destruction Staff passives, it's a 40% chance each time.

And those figures will be raised by the new CP system.

Thank you very much !! A very clear explanation!
