paintings in base game area chests

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I could have sworn that around the time that Antiquities system was announced or released, there was a comment that paintings would be added to some base game area chests. Now, as I recall, this was not a major announcement, it was either buried in patch notes, or it was an offhand comment made in a Twitch stream, or both.

Does anyone else recall this? Has anyone ever found a painting in any of the base game areas? I would expect it to still be a relatively rare drop, but I have opened many a chest, both before and after Antiquities, and I've literally never picked up a painting from any chest in these areas. (Compared to picking one up, say, 5-6 times a year in DLC areas.)

I've gotten paintings from base game (the Rift) chests
not a high drop rate, but then I have accumulated a ton of paintings back before this

Paintings have been in the chest pool since Housing was added back in early 2017, I'm pretty sure. I don't know if they lowered the drop rate since then but they were dropping like candy originally. I still have like 30-40 random base game paintings in my warehouse.

I remember in some patchnotes (Greymoor maybe) that paintings from specific zones would appear more often in chests in those zones. Not that I've noticed it though.

I have found paintings in chests a few times. I've also gotten small furnishing items from nodes.

Thanks! I couldn't remember whether they had said that they would start appearing, or would appear more often. Or whether I had imagined it altogether.

I'm not too worried about it, I have plenty of paintings, but I thought it was curious that I've never found one in those areas, particularly since I spend so much time in Glenumbra, and it made me wonder what everyone else's experience was.

I have so many base-game paintings in my Psijic Villa Warehouse - all “hung” / floating in the air - that you literally cannot see the beautiful view of the Artaeum skyline. Lol.

I'd say it's about a 2% drop rate for paintings from base game treasure map chests.... I farm a lot of treasure maps.

The paintings have been there for quite some time. But I recently had a couple drop, although I couldn't tell you where because I was doing surveys all over.
