Login Screen Silliness

For years now, I've experienced a problem with the login screen. When open it would cause my computer to make a high-pitched squeal. I found it that it is called coil whine and it was quite annoying as sometimes I would leave the game idle, get kicked to login, and then start to hear this high pitched noise.

I took for granted that maybe it was just me having a problem so I didn't raise my voice about this, but now something more troubling is happening on the login screen. When left open, what happens is that ESO starts becoming a very high demanding process in my task manager and starts to cause, what sounds like, my radiator fans to speed up drastically. After closing ESO, they cycle for a minute more and then calm down until the login screen is left idle again. And it doesn't have to even be left idle for that long, just a few minutes.

This is all to ask, what is wrong with the login screen that causes it to be demanding on the computer? Why is this a problem and can it be fixed?
Don't tank

    How old is that toaster?

Just kidding, but it does sound like an issue with your computer

I have issues where in some spots my computer wants to DO ALL THE FRAMES and my fps speeds up to 200+ for... no real reason. Usually this happens around water (especially while fishing), and my fans all speed up super high as it's taxing my graphic card unnecessarily. What I ended up doing is putting a fps cap on ESO in my nvidia settings AND in ESO's settings, so that neither can go over 142fps.

I still get the sudden increase from 80-90 to 142, and my fans speed up a bit, but it isn't nearly as bad as it was... and my PC no longer sounds like a jet engine when I'm doing the Super Difficult Task of... fishing. ;)

It could be that, when at the login screen, your computer is like "Heck yeah, Ima make ALL THE FRAMES!" which is why it's using a lot of resources and freaking out on you. Cap the frames on the program, and perhaps that'll help a little.

the reason for that noise might be that your fps lock has unlocked itself, i have had that issue now for a while and it keeps happening over and over again

Thank you, I'll try this out.

Damn I love you! I just started MSI Afterburner overlay to see FPS in ESO and that's true. I capped FPS to 60 in ESO settings file (using Votan's Advanced Settings addon), but it's not working for loading screens. 200+ FPS during loading were leading to 100% CPU and GPU usage resulting in crazy temperatures (RIP, laptop user here), loud whine and other issues like keyboard input lag (most likely due to sick CPU usage).

Limiting FPS in nVidia control panel to 60 made this issue less annoying.
