Would you like to see more of the Three Banners War in lore?

The Three Banners War was a very big feature of the game's story at launch, with a focus on the development of the factions and how they functioned internally as the main thrust of the zone stories, with the actual conflict itself even being the forefront in a lot of side quests and the majority of the Ebonheart Pact zone storylines.

But in the subsequent DLC and chapters have barely included the Three Banners War at all. At best the conflict is briefly mentioned in quests. No war is evident in any main quests OR side quests. Rather it seems to be sidelined, an inconvenience that the writers more or less want to ignore at this point. To me it's always seemed a bit jarring, but I understand why they've done it - your covenant character wouldn't necessarily feel right working for Jorunn's agent in Skyrim, for instance.

With that in mind, would you like to see the Three Banners War developed more in lore? Maybe even resolved? Or would you prefer it remain a part of the universe that justifies PvP in Cyrodiil but otherwise remains largely irrelevant to the universe?

I kinda wanna know how it ends. That's about it though.

It's not very relevant because they don't lock zones to race like WoW (that and the pvp content dry spell due to the 2~? year long war with pvp lag) so it kind of just phased itself out

Not a fan of War, specially when global threats pop up like 4 times a year.

There dead set on everything taking place in the one year, without advancing the time line at all, would rather they focus on good stories for zones without shackling themselves to the war story.

Kinda getting sick of Daedra though, they seem to be relied upon to much for the evil in the world, would be interesting to see some mortal bad guys that are doing things through their own power instead of relying on pacts with evil gods etc...

This is tough to answer, because I wouldn't mind seeing an occasional zone DLC that included quests related to the Three Banners War, although not be the entire focus of it per se.

But since the war is over who gets to wear the Ruby Slippers sit in the Ruby Throne, it seems perfectly natural for it to be primarily confined to Cyrodiil, with additional action taking place in at least certain areas of the base game's zones as each alliance tries to undermine the efforts of the other two.

I agree with the OP that this is one of the best plot points in this game. I really don't like the direction this game is going to, whether we save Nirn from yet another global catastrophy twice a year. The banner war was lore friendly and down to earth. Over the past few years ESO has been falling into the pitfall that every successful series falls into: becoming more and more extreme in order to "stay interesting". How many times can tamriel get threatened and saved on one year?!

Ignoring the war breaks immersion and plausibility of the story. The Pact recruiter in Lilmoth (Murkmire DLC) was one of my favourite features in that zone, that connected it with the rest of the game. The new DLC feel so disconnected from the main game aesthetically and thematically that I feel I'm playing a different game. Continuity is sacrificed for the sake of financial gain for zos, but the game's image gets worse overall.

I guess they're trying to hide the cyrodiil mess, which was one of the selling points but now it's the reason people leave the game.

Definitely. The events of the war are part of canon now, so it deserves a good story. And importantly a satisfying conclusion.

And to stress: a conclusion to the war wouldn't make Cyrodiil PVP inaccessible. We all know how the original main quest ends, yet you can still play through the story with another character. Same goes with Morrowind's main quest. And Summerset's. And Elsweyr's. And Greymoor's. Just because the Three Banners War has a narrative conclusion doesn't mean the PVP game mode would have to be removed. You'd just be playing "in the past", like with all other content in the game that isn't the current Chapter.

By now (with one Tamriel and what not) it feels like the war is over. Every time I go to Cyrodiil it's like going back in time when the war was still raging.

With Cadwell's Silver/Gold, then One Tamriel, it makes the 3BW harder to make any sense, I think. The developers make changes to how the game mechanics work, and story is always a sad afterthought. They struggle to make much make any sense.

The Three Banners War could offer an excellent hook for writing, I don't think its necessarily wrung out just yet. They made this crazy, controversial proposition of various opponent races working together, there's still lots of opportunity to tell some interesting stories to justify that choice, and show us it was a good one.

Alternatively, by lore, the game is set during The Interregnum - several hundred years of making and breaking alliances. In context, the 3 banners should probably not even be all that significant. Considering a broader perspective, I could imagine them moving past the 3BW, only to introduce new factions, dynamics, and new, interesting stories. Hell, the PvP community has long asked for something new; story hooks like this offer the possibility for development.

Problem is they can't progress the alliance war storyline, so we're at a stasis. The current narrative is that everything happens in one freaking year and can happen in any order, it's impossible to progress the narrative.

Which is why all the new storylines are self contained and all take place in unexplored areas, time is not moving forward.

I'd love to see a resolution personally. But also just... involvement. One thing I really liked about Skyrim was that you could get involved in the political stuff, not just the end-of-the-world evil daedra stuff. It was a refreshing change, and I'd like to see the Three Banners War at least wrapped up, even if it's just a peace treaty of some kind.

ZOS promised a lot of political intrigue with Greymoor, and they delivered some, but I feel like it wasn't enough, the whole Princess thing was resolved quite easily. I initially thought it would be a much bigger plot, somehow including Eastern Skyrim more than it was present.

As for the Three Banners War, it really needs a conclusion and the current chapter could have provided a way to shake things up in Cyrodiil but I doubt it would do anything to the war itself. As much as they love to shove every event into the never-ending year of 2E 582 nowadays, the overarching plot really needs to move forward. Imagine Ayrenn, Jorunn or Emeric getting assassinated by Dagonite worshippers, their alliance crumbling, now that would be quite a plot twist. One by one, the alliances will fall, that is known because by the time of Tiber Septim none of them were still standing.

ZOS should take a page from Destiny's book. The expansions and seasons (kind of like DLCs) there actually move the whole story forward, everything changes, you can feel it. This isn't much the case in ESO anymore, it is slowly becoming so static, even with so many new world-ending threats.

with the old cadwells silver and gold you used to be teleported into the other alliance zones "to see through the eyes of the heros of the other alliances" so it was like a magical daedric simulation of playing the heros that saved the other 2 alliances. Why they scrapped that for everyone has no loyalty and you save a side then kill them the next zone over i will never understand. they need to make sense of the terrible patch work story before they can finish it

I have completed the three alliance stories and Zenimax did some good storytelling. It is a great start to the game. I am now enjoying the stories that have been added and feel they have shown great creativity and that it was time to move on from the original stories.

I think we will see it come up in Blackwood, at least in the background. It would be hard to ignore given that any ships reaching central Cyrodiil would have to go through Leyawiin, and there are certainly ships there.

i personally like to see it, the continuation of the story, what will the leaders of the 3 faction do next after molag bal, what threat can possibly unite them again, or probably even make them more butting head

and ZoS could probably make this a free huge zone update for next "version" of ESO, just like One Tamriel, add new zones on all faction and told a new story continued from previous main quest

It's the raison d'etre for ESO, so I don't think it'll be closed off officially. It's mainly for PVP as it's really the underpinning for Imperial City and Cyrodiil. With One Tamriel, it's now an afterthought for PVE. I'm sure they'll be mentions of it here and there, but who knows when we'll see any closure on the storyline. Honestly, there's more compelling stories to be told, I'm fine if this one pitters out.
