Mind you that an server merge will increase the database size, this affect performance negatively and I think the database size is the main reason maintenance take so long. For one thing they want to back up the database after shutting down the game.
The system they work on who who moves inactive users data to an separate database is probably to reduce the size of some tables like characters inventory, achievements, skill points, CP and furniture in houses who contains lots of entries for any character or account.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

They have said it's not happening and that it's not possible in response to all of us who have requested to have our accounts moved already...

that was only because console took a whole extra year to launch. So zos ported them over to console since they had HAD to buy a pc version of the game if they wanted to play that 1st year. They didn't dupe them. They full ported them.

that was also 7yrs ago and counting and would no longer be a factor in the decision by the time the studio ever got around to it.

Not to mention it was to a totally empty database....

Couldn’t they just assign everyone a serial number and allow only 5-8 toons to cross play?

Semantics. Duplicate... copied... cloned... characters were available on the console, at exactly the position, gear, and level that they were at when they took the PC snapshot. The original PC characters were left unharmed. I still have duplicate characters on PC and XBox. I am not sure about PS4, as I have not played that since very early this year.

I don't know if these have been mentioned before, but the main issues I would have with crossplay are the difference in lag severity (console is way worse than PC,) and the speed at which you can turn your camera. I'm thinking of sorcs streaking and quickly turning around, as well as LoS'ing in general. These, along with add-on's and fps would guarantee that it would become pointless to play on console.

I play on PC with a controller lol

You don't have duplicates if you played those characters.

They are still duplicate names and accounts, and it is worse that they are actually different characters.

Tbh, I have both PC & Console, and from time to time I enjoy playing on a Console. It is not better, or worse it is just... different experience.

It would be awesome If I could play on my PC, but when I want, I just switch to console and log in to my account & continue my adventure. Kinda like a cross - platform cloud save or something like that.

Can someone explain cross-play and cross-save to me like I'm five?

Because I understand character transfer (ie, transferring my stamsorc from PC-NA to PC-EU) and account transfer (transferring my PC account and all it's attachments, minus server-specific things like guilds) to PS4 or XBox, or swapping my characters from PC-EU to PC-NA and vice-versa).

But how does Cross-play/Cross-save work? Is there a central "save database" that keeps all information for all accounts and makes sure that there are no conflicts across servers?

Would this information be updated live? So if I complete a pledge on a character on PC-NA and then log in to PC-EU or PS4-NA it would show that my character has already done the pledge?

How would that affect the ability to join guilds? Do you get to join 5 guilds across all servers? Even if they may not be active on other servers? (Right now I'm in 5 guilds on PC-NA and 1 in PC-EU, for example).

How would this affect guild traders? Do we now just have 1 trade guild per trader across 6 server/platform combos?

Like, I can see character transfer or account transfer being doable, but I have trouble visualizing the other two options since our accounts/characters have an influence on the game world that goes beyond our accounts. This was evidenced by the problems in the console launch with players who were transferring "borrowing" large amounts of gold from their guilds, for example.

I don't play Destiny 2. Do players have the same effect on the game world there that they do in ESO?

Yes so Cross Save and Cross Save would have to basically feed all of the account materials into a central database against which all data would be cross checked.

From what the developers have currently stated about the megaservers, account data is split amongst 3 databases: PC, XBOX, and PS. As you know your account allows you to interact with the NA and EU realms under one ID. Also this means that one account is home to potentially 36 characters across both platforms.

There are actual conflicts with regards to accounts and character names if cross save/play were allowed. Accounts and characters are tied to gear/weapons/collectibles/housing/etc. Combining them all could create database errors that can corrupt these accounts which is problematic.

Then there are the in-game elements. Much has already been said about add-ons for PC that can’t be used on console (Sony is more against add-ons than it is against cross-play/save). But the in-game economies have diverged so much that combining them in any way would potentially destroy how the varying communities function.

PC due to add-ons and crown selling markets alone has a glut of gold. So much so that items in the player to player transaction market now go for more than 4 times what they sell for on console. Introducing that much gold/mats would destroy the console markets.

Then there are competitive advantages. PC noticeably has an easier time with completing content. Are players now going to be told do casual content on console but play in PC groups to clear PVE/PVP vet content?

There is a lot to unpack and it goes way way beyond the nonsense “well Microsoft owns Zeni so it should be done” argument. Cross play and cross save can work in games but for those with years of backlogged data and massive size it’s not easy at all.

Look to Final Fantasy XIV. Yes it has cross play and cross save I believe. But the several years of history, account issues, and need to allocate significant resources are the main reasons given by the developers as to why they have yet to put out an XBOX version.

New consoles can play up to 120fps at 4k if the game and their tv allow it. As for addons they are not as huge as they used to be AND Skyrim and Fallout have mods on console so addons could work the same way.

New consoles CANNOT play this game at 120fps at 4K. They currently can’t do a consistent 60FPS at 4K.

Skyrim and Fallout have extremely limited mods that are basically vetted by Sony. You will find that the XBOX mod choices are significantly more than Playstation.

Sony does not want add-ons for its consoles. It never has because it’s basically code from users, not vetted by a developer, and can open up their systems to hacking.

I'd rather consoles get cross play. Wouldn't be fair playing with PC. They'd have an unfair advantage with all their addons
