Back at console launch, players could copy to the consoles, so lots of dups.

that was only because console took a whole extra year to launch. So zos ported them over to console since they had HAD to buy a pc version of the game if they wanted to play that 1st year. They didn't dupe them. They full ported them.
that was also 7yrs ago and counting and would no longer be a factor in the decision by the time the studio ever got around to it.

I'm thinking of sorcs streaking and quickly turning around, as well as LoS'ing in general. These, along with add-on's and fps would guarantee that it would become pointless to play on console.

Semantics. Duplicate... copied... cloned... characters were available on the console, at exactly the position, gear, and level that they were at when they took the PC snapshot. The original PC characters were left unharmed. I still have duplicate characters on PC and XBox. I am not sure about PS4, as I have not played that since very early this year.

You don't have duplicates if you played those characters.

“Cross save won’t work because Sony.”
Laughs in Destiny 2.
Can someone explain cross-play and cross-save to me like I'm five?
Because I understand character transfer (ie, transferring my stamsorc from PC-NA to PC-EU) and account transfer (transferring my PC account and all it's attachments, minus server-specific things like guilds) to PS4 or XBox, or swapping my characters from PC-EU to PC-NA and vice-versa).
But how does Cross-play/Cross-save work? Is there a central "save database" that keeps all information for all accounts and makes sure that there are no conflicts across servers?
Would this information be updated live? So if I complete a pledge on a character on PC-NA and then log in to PC-EU or PS4-NA it would show that my character has already done the pledge?
How would that affect the ability to join guilds? Do you get to join 5 guilds across all servers? Even if they may not be active on other servers? (Right now I'm in 5 guilds on PC-NA and 1 in PC-EU, for example).
How would this affect guild traders? Do we now just have 1 trade guild per trader across 6 server/platform combos?
Like, I can see character transfer or account transfer being doable, but I have trouble visualizing the other two options since our accounts/characters have an influence on the game world that goes beyond our accounts. This was evidenced by the problems in the console launch with players who were transferring "borrowing" large amounts of gold from their guilds, for example.“Cross save won’t work because Sony.”

I don't play Destiny 2. Do players have the same effect on the game world there that they do in ESO?
New consoles can play up to 120fps at 4k if the game and their tv allow it. As for addons they are not as huge as they used to be AND Skyrim and Fallout have mods on console so addons could work the same way.
