Well drafts of things you decide not to post and didn't hit save draft on being stuck in a thread indefinitely, are kinda dumb.

They aren't. You can just delete them. It's really easy. The feature is meant to saves accidentally misclicking away

How do you delete them? On my browser the text I wrote is sitting in the text box indefinitely, unless I replace it and hit Post. I even delete it out of the box, only to have it return the next time I go back to that thread, and 99.99% sure it isn't my browser caching it.

Simplest solution would be an remove draft / clear on the reply bar. More useful than making textHow do you delete them? You can bring up the drafts view, where you will find every half written comment that you never posted, and delete them from there. Getting to that view easy for browsers by clicking on the gear icon up at the top of the page by your name.
It is a pain to delete them from the drafts view. It is better to just ignore that view.
If you just want to clear the text, you can just clear it, press any key, then save that as a draft. I use a period, which is why sometimes you see comments from me that start with a period. It means I was going to reply to something else, but decided not to. After that, just ignore the draft that it creates.

Beyond the usual "I started typing, then thought better of hitting [Post Reply]", since the Drafts are saved without posting, in one of my bookmarked posts, I use the Draft to save the links to various pictures and offsite reference links for easy copy/paste. Drafts are also really useful when I have to swap to a previous page to reread the conversation to make sure I remember something correctly.
That being said, I've got 830 drafts, most of which are deletable but it's never going to happen if I have to delete them one at a time.
On PC you click the little cog icon next to your name and avatar at the top of the screen, select 'my drafts' from the drop-down and then you can delete them using the X in the corner of each one.

At one time, I used to use the drafts as a warning to a future self to not post a comment in a thread.
How do you know how many drafts you have?
