Companions, Necromancers, and costumes

There has been much discussion about necromancers not having a permanent “pet”, but it just occurred to me that the upcoming companion system may be able to fill that need.

Now it’s been mentioned that the companions will have their own story lines (which will break this narrative), but VISUALLY it would be nice to have them look like a necromancer “pet”.

I am guessing that polymorphs are not going to be usable on companions, but costume wise it still might be able to achieve the effect.

So any ideas on this front? Has anybody already thought about this?

Pirate Skeleton helmet + some armor that covers the skin should do the trick

If they allow costumes, those Halloween masks would be good for that.

If they can use skins like Soul Shriven or Reanimated Vampire Thrall, would look the part.

What'll be fun is Companios reporting Necromancers, Vampires & Werewolves for criminal acts

    Can just see it :)

"Do that again & I'm off, for good!"

BlueRaven, could we, please, precise "the pet" term?
    - Classes with permanent combat pets: Sorcerers (Scamp/Clannfear and Twilight), and Wardens (Bear)
    - Classes with temporary pets: Nightblades (Shade), Necromancers (Mage, Wraith)
    - Classes fighting all alone: DragonKnight, and Templar
Also, there are "temporary" pets provided by gear (lots of them: Hunger, Daedroth, ShadowRend, Guar, flying sword, etc..).

Still, 2 classes have permanent combat pets, while 4 other have not.
And, technically speaking, Necromancer is not the most lonely class in ESO.
So Sorcerers would have most of fun of the new feature as they already can summon theirs daedra and also have companion to create a little army.

Companions were implemented both in Skyrim and Fallout games, so Bethesda already has some code to be integrated with ESO. We know very little about companions, except we can choose between Tanking (which appeared to match the DK skills), DPS, and Healing (which were not exposed). We don't know if these skills may be morphed (i think hardly) or if they contain theirs own summoning skills (again, very doubtful).
Fallout 4 is a good example of unlocking Companion's quests when you get enough reputation for the partner.

We will see more about Companions implementation at PTS, i hope.

I am sorry, I thought I was being clear. I was comparing the companion system, to the regular constantly “on” combat pets. (Like sorc pets.)

The abilities the companions have was not really a part of this particular discussion, but I believe on the eso preview they showed the “dk” companion with what appears to be a morphed ability.

I don’t think you are using “code” in the proper sense. They certainly have the experience of past companions (sort of, because zos is a different division of the company). But the eso engine is quite different from the games you mentioned.

(That is interesting to think about though. Will they have a sorc companion? Will the sorc companion be able to summon its own pets? Intriguing. 🤔 )

Anyway this is just a thread about making the companion LOOK like a skeleton, zombie, or other “proper” necromancer permanent combat pet.

Oh. We don't know if polymorphs might be applied to Companions, if yes, we can have skeletons armies in group dungeons :)
Companions are the boldest feature to sell the new Chapter, hope these would not disappoint.

The first companions seem to have conversations and personal quests, so them being a skeleton, werewolf lord or spriggan would be weird. But for future companions I'd like generic ones where we can use polymorphs, but also pet skins.

There finally could be other animal companions than a bear, and even a sinister Necromancer might like to sic a half rotten death hound on his enemies. Not sure if all pets should be companions, but hey, a pink murder torchbug seems the perfect match for a fat orc male in a wedding dress.

I said the same thing. I personally don’t care about the new companions, but the possibility’s for necromancers and sorcerer are unique.

I’m hoping for a skeleton or zombie companion. It doesn’t even need to talk or have a quest associated with it. Just something to fill the void of a permanent undead pet for necromancers.

They could also give us a dremora lord companion. Perfect for sorcs. Don’t even need much dialogue for it. Have it just yell, “A challenger is near!", "I smell weakness!", "No one escapes!", and "Another who seeks death!".

I would actually use them if we had access to those.

If all will turn out like this, it'll be a great win! Just to imagine if pets in collection may become a skin, I'm starting to get excited!

Well, instead of a story quest it may be something like preparations for the ritual of rising ancient person. Same for the sorcs (preparations for the rare daedra summonig).

I don’t think they will ever make a companion aimed at a particular class only. I think they are going for overall gameplay style.
“This is a companion for a hero”, “This is a companion for an assassin” type thing.

It would be interesting if they implement a companion who is themselves a necromancer though.
