Character Creation and Customization

At some point can we please get an overhaul on character creation? The customization is really lacking and in need of a rework. Most of our characters end up looking like everyone else's due to lack of options. It's really difficult to make a unique character that's different from everyone else. They basically all look the same with some minor differences. We really need more variations so we don't end up with a ton of clones running around.
Also the same options that some of the npcs have (Razum-Dar's beautiful red hair and the color and markings of the pahmar-raht) for the Khajiit. The green skin tone for the Orcs that we don't have in creation for some reason. Black hair for Altmer. The easiest thing to do, as far as hair, would be to allow us to dye it at the outfit/dye station. There's a tab for costumes and hats, it'd be really cool if there was one for hair. Doesn't have to be complicated like highlights and stuff like that, just to dye the overall color. It'd also be neat to be able to dye your tattoos, but I'd be happy just to be able to change hair color. Also a tail slider for beast races to change the length and width. Especially for the Khajiit, their tails are really long and skinny. I'd like to make my tail look more like how they were in Skyrim. Maybe tail tufts/adornments? But I'd be fine with just a slider so I could make the tail a little shorter.

Yes, the TES IV character creation menu was much better, what kind of freaky characters you could create there, legendary. But maybe this should be prevented in ESO in order to protect the eyes of the other players...

Probably a lot to do with limiting the amount af data needed to be sent - hence everyone looks the same 'cos not doing so costs 'bandwidth'

Annoying as it is - but have you seen any online games with 'real' options?

I don’t even want an overhaul of the character creation, I just want some absolutely basic features that are part of every free to play Asian grinder, but unfortunately not for an AAA game like ESO:

    - unlocked Crown Store hairstyles, markings etc. available

    - Sliders with names or at least numbers (on console)

    - the option to save templates (or maybe even import them from others)

    - an auto-save function of your last creation (because you get logged out so fast and lose everything)

    - better lighting and maybe even two or three different sceneries (day, night and something neutral)

Can we get these improvements, ZOS? Please. @ZOS_GinaBruno

This post is partly for me and partly for my wife because this is a subject upon which we wholeheartedly agree.

It would be nice to have the character creation be a bit more balanced.

If you are creating a male character you can build everything from a little wimp to a bipedal wall.

Yet when it comes to female characters your choices are basically a slider between skeletally thin on one end and swimwear model on the other. It would be nice to be able to create female characters that look like they could do something with a sword other than just drag it around. If you have to, put it in the crown store and we’ll pay separately for it! We’ve seen Lyris Titanborn, we know those physique sliders can go further than they do!

I married a woman who can use a hundred and eighty pound Glamorgan longbow and moves like a dancer. She’s more than confident of being able to knocking seven bells out of the entire female cast of this game. Come on, give us some more options and charge us money for it, can’t say fairer than that 😇

Enough of this industry standard of men big and women little rubbish.

It’s a fantasy world with dragons in it yet the female side of the equation is still stuck using body types that look like something designed in the 1970s...

I'd love to see more options on the character creator. One thing I want to see is an eyebrow colour slider. My main vampire has white hair and he's so pale, you can barely see his eyebrows at times.

    Quite reasonable requests.
I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.

Can't agree more. I just created a dunmer who looked blue in the editor and green in daylight. That they haven't done this yet is weird, they change the login screen for every new chapter, it shouldn't be so difficult to change this as well while they're at it.

I think the character creation is a two-edged affair. For instance, the face and body type triangles are a great idea and allow for nice variation in themselves. The basic face structures of different races are pretty good, too. So the basic foundation is solid. However, they could have done so much more with the system.

The face customization is indeed lacking some options. For instance, such basic things as different mouth types are lacking. I think that alone would make a great difference, if there was a slider for mouth width (so that e.g. not all Nords would be almost fish-mouthed). Also, if ZOS threw in something like six different lip shapes, I'd be happy. And for good measure, some different eye shapes. Then the system would be good enough, although still nowhere near Oblivion's or Skyrim's level.

This, you buy them. They should be added to the character creation, this includes hair, makeup, jewelry, skins etc. Anything you own should be available in your character creation screen or the can give us a customization window for a few crowns since we can't get a good look at our character while we are in game. SWTOR does this and it works really well.

And I agree with the fact that when you buy markings, adornments, hairstyles, and whatever else it should be available to you during character creation. And yeah they really need better lighting options during creation.

I would like a universal height chart, so that it's easier to not have overly tall or short characters compared to different races. The shortest high elf and the shortest breton are vastly different.

Character modeling is just an byte for each setting. Each armor piece is an one int for each set piece and 3 for each color.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

I'm pretty sure the reason why there's still a generic baseline to the character creator is that they have to make every piece of armor, clothing, hairstyle, etc be able to fit. So they have to model everything to the options we already have, anything new they add has to be capable of fitting the models they supply.

It would be nice, yes, to have more options, but the amount of work and overhaul necessary to make existing things fit the new additions would require it's own specific update to do that. I don't know if they really have time to handle that on top of everything else they're supposedly also doing.

Characters cant look too different in the bodies as clothing and armor will clip.

As for faces, there is quite a bit of range. The issue is when you try to make an attractive character, then they all look similar, but that us because humans value symmetry in appearance.

Want to make a character that looks different, make them distinctive.

As far as clothing, armor and outifts, i never see my own gear and outfits on any other characters i see in the game. The visual diversity in styles, motifs and dyes in this game is mind boggling.

And, at a distance of a few meters, that is all you really see.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I just wish it had different light and angle options so we could see things better.

Also, adding numbers to the sliders would be nice along with some stadiometer thing next to the characters so you can make out their height better. Don't need to be some exact numbers in cm/inches, just something we can compare with.

I'd also like a tail slider for Argonians and Khajiit so you can adjust the length and width. And maybe tail types. But the length and width for sure. Also a toggle to hide vampirism. The ability to dye your hair or even your markings/tattoos at the dye station.

Yeah you use disguises. Using them now actually. It'd just be nice if there was a toggle, like how swtor has show/hide dark side corruption. Because unfortunately with disguises you can't change hairstyles, markings, or adornments.

Argonians tail width is determined by the posterior slider. Which gives some showerthoughts.

It should be a completely separate slider though rather then tied in with posterior. I'd just like my khajiit to have a shorter wider tail like in Skyrim. A tail that doesn't look like a noodle. Or be able to have a smaller tail for the Argonian.
