Favourite cities?

Rimmen - It's a gorgeous city. Definitely the first one to really wow me when I went there for the first time. The music in Elsweyr in general is amazing too.I also love that I don't have to go into different buildings for the crafting stations and outfit station. It's my go-to place for when I need to clear my inventory. I'm there at least once every time I play.

Vivec - Love the design, the giant space rock, the shiny narcissistic god, etc. It's a gorgeous place, and extremely convenient since the crafting stuff, bank, and guild stores are all in the same area.

Balmora - I love the design and it's a little nostalgic for me since I started this game in Vvardenfell and spent a lot of time in Balmora. Sucks how empty is its, though. No one ever goes there since there really isn't anything to do besides the quests.

Solitude - Haven't been there much yet, but instant nostalgia from playing Skyrim

Clockwork City - I love anything Dwemer/Clockwork, and this city is amazing with the whole scifi feel it has. The colors, the designs of the buildings, the giant metal turbines, the ambient noises from all the pipes and machinery, the factotums, the music. It's all great.

Orsinium - I love the overall aesthetic with it being under construction. The textures are also very visually pleasing with the snow and ice seemingly in between the bricks on the walls.

Imperial City - Much better than it was in Oblivion because of how huge it feels in ESO. I actually made some comparison pictures (I'll share if anyone's interested) and it's crazy how much bigger it is in this game. All the daedric stuff in the city is super cool too. Even though I dislike PvP, the overall feel of this zone is perfect. It actually feels like I'm in a city that's been invaded by "demons." (I'd love to watch a show with a setting like this). I feel constantly on edge because of how creepy everything is. The music there is amazing as well. I was once in the sewers trying to hide from gankers who randomly teleported into the room. One attacked me but I managed to hide while 2 more showed up. In the few seconds of silence while they started looking for me, I heard that intense bwong sound that plays occasionally, and it sent shivers through me.

I like posts like this. They give a noob a sense of what's coming. I been staying mostly in Auridon so know Vukhel Guard and Skywatch pretty good. Both seem like good cities. Filled with people (players and NPC alike). And I keep wondering how the cities I know from previous games will look.

If you've played Skyrim, you'll love Solitude and Markarth. I had a big ass smile on my face when I visited them since they're pretty much the same as they are in Skyrim.

Kvatch: I love the atmosphere with the Chapel of Akatosh standing over everything in the city, plus the presence of the Order of the Hour, and the unique guards (Imperial armor with the skirts? I think yes) give the city a overt religious feel.

Imperial City: You can already probably see a pattern, but as others have mentioned, ZOS absolutely nailed the sheer size and scale of how it would actually be. Granted, the current Daedric incursion is a bit of a downer, what with the dead bodies and ruined buildings, but I still love the history, and grandeur of the place, not to mention the White-Gold Tower is my favorite metaphysical tower in Tamriel.

Alinor: Doubt I can add into what everyone else has already said. Pristine white marble, high fantasy flair, Elven cleanliness, easy accessibility to the bank and guild traders, plus a good rotation of houses to break into and loot make this my thief character’s favorite place (and yes, the NPCs in said houses have loot, so unfortunately they must perish. But it’s all for a good cause).

I have a few others, but considering they’re mostly towns/in complete ruins (looking at you Chorrol) I think it’s be best to leave them out for the time being.

Interesting choices, and some of them not surprising. For instance, no wonder that Alinor has several mentions. I do agree with one other writer that it is the tiniest bit sterile, which is its only real flaw.

Looks like Balmora got mentioned twice, too. How could I forget to add that city to my list? I loved it in TES III, and in ESO it's even better. Lusher and the buildings are more monumental. So, Balmora gets the fifth place in my favourites.

I have to say that my reaction to this city is rather the opposite. The whole of Clockwork City mini-world is somehow very depressing for me. Everything's artificial, everything's dangerous and devoid of emotion or meaning aside from a self-made "god's" whim. It's oppressive in a bleak and sort of nihilistic way. But, well, maybe that is the very idea it's supposed to convey. And it's a matter of taste, really. I do admire how well the city and the whole area are designed thematically, however.

Orsinium - actually feels like a city, unlike Western Skyrim's disappointingly copy-pasted capital village from the 4th Era.
Alinor - normally i don't like high elven zones but this one is very pretty, large enough, beautiful environment.
Clockwork City - even better than what we had in Morrowind's Tribunal expansion.
Vivec - too small, but still nice to see it under construction.
Rimmen - eeew a huge cat litter. But also amazing and exotic architecture, with a more diverse desert than Hammerfell.
The best techniques are passed on by the survivors.

Big cities for sure Mournhold for me. Runner up Wayrest. I love the hussle and bustle in all large cities but those two are my favorites.

*Small towns/villages: Fells Run- Rivenspire. Reminds me of a sleepy beautiful village you'd go through driving around in the UK.

    1) Daggerfall First city I visited in ESO, so I have the layout practically memorized. When I first grinded up to 810CP, I did so through BGs, and so parked my main in Daggerfall for several weeks. With the CP 2.0 release, I'm doing very much the same. I also just like the vibe that area of the zone has going on with the forested cliffs.

    2) Wayrest Its one of the few base game cities that actually feels like a natural city, and not just a large village with walls. The buildings and towers rise above the roofs of the houses, and the streets and alleyways wind about. Yes, stations and important locations are spread out, but I also don't care if I spend one or two minutes more on my writs and turning in quests.

    3) Evermore. A bit of an off-choice for sure, but the city tends to be a bit quieter with less traffic and can be a good place to park characters who are just working on writs at the moment.

    4) Alinor Summerset is just a beautiful zone, and Alinor is no exception.

High Elves have most beautiful land and architecture in the game.

Normally Morrowind ( like all of it ) would be close second but in ESO Balmora and Vivec are so tiny , eh.

Stormhold is the best mid sized ESO city by far. The crafting stations are all laid out logically and are easy to find. The bank is right there. Need to train your horse or buy bag space? It’s right there. Need a thieves guild, it’s there. Even the Ample Domicile is a great small house.

I’ve probably visited every city in ESO a few times. None is as user friendly as Stormhold.

Any of the starter islands as I trip over all of the crafting nodes. Like having a never ending Easter Egg hunt.

I like Marbruk, Greenshade for its small size and tiered levels. For years that was where I logged my main out every night and started each day from there. It just felt like “home” even though it doesn’t have any housing within the walls.

Now that I have 14 alts that I run crafting writs on every day, I just moved them all to Velyn Harbor, Malabal Tor for ease of turn in and familiarity.
