Please stop flashing bright lights in my eyes

I too have issues with the bright flashes of light, both from combat and quests. I'm also partly color blind so the bright flashes are really bad for me. I have found settings on my TV that help a little (very little) but I'll take the little help over none. I have a friend who tried to play eso but had to stop as the game would cause her to have seizures especially when in combat with others. Zos really needs to tone it down, but seems like any time the issue comes up they make it even worse than ever.

I'm curious if these bright flashes really don't bother some players. I can't even imagine...

It's never even registered with me. I legitimately have no idea what you guys are talking about.

I don’t have discomfort with things like that myself, but I can understand that it might bother other players.

I’m all for more accessibility options, like I would enjoy some way to move the NPC subtitles down to the bottom of the screen where they don’t overlap the interaction with other objects.

At the very least they could give a warning to players in the quest description if the place or quest they are about to do involves such a light.

Same with momento's descriptions if it causes bright lights/flashing.

    same.
the only thing i remember is in dragonstar arena at the stage with the victims. One of the boss can blend you and its really annoying, but just because i know i might get stunned and killed while i cant see anything on the screen.

Photophobia is a proper term describing discomfort or pain to the eyes due to sudden flashes of light due to your actual physical sensitivity of the eyes.

Normally, no game vendors take care.
I close my eyes at the moment of bright flash when scrying reveals the excavation site location.
I close my eyes while hyperjumping in the EVE Online.

Game-makers LOVE explosions (as and many players do), so they normally never care about photosensitive gamers minority.
Same is true about color-blind gamers, there are too few games helping players with that, but this is kinda another BIG topic.
Oddly enough: long ago the music concerts DVDs have a printed warning: “Stroboscopic effects are used in this video”, but this long gone archaic feature belongs to 90s...

Photosensitive players only might hope to be heard, but the chances are barely zero, this is why I even don’t bother to tag ZOS managers in this message. I am afraid we are to live with that. Just close your eyes..
    Remember I'll always be true

There should be an option in the settings/video section to turn them down/off.
    A slider would be great.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

While my eyes are pretty sensitive that unwarding amulet is not that bad. If the devs made the other flashes of that intensity instead of the literally blinding light effects they have now I wouldn't stop thanking them.

I just did the prologue last night, I am not photosensitive or have photophobia but I can say that the bright flashing when opening the chests throughout the prologue was indeed a bit agitating because it was so bright. I ended up turning down my monitor brightness. I do indeed feel bad for those who have sensitivities to these types of things. It was definitely an impactful effect, but even Lyranth agreed it was a bit too much for this many of us little mortals. :p Enjoyed the prologue quest otherwise.

It's much brighter in game than on YouTube, and it completely fills the screen. Let us know what you think after you've seen it in game.

Youtube tones down those kind of flashes (I wonder why) so the video is rather misleading as to how bad it actually is.

I really wonder what is going through their heads when they do thing like this.[/quote]

It look fancy, and they don't realize that it can cause epileptic reactions, etc not like the game doesn't have legal speak in the small text to save them from being sued over such things.

This is true, but even with it tuned down you can still see how it lights the entire screen. I encourage people to check it out for themselves in game.

If you don't have the memento yet just message me in game (NA) and I'll show you mine. I'm curious how this looks to others nearby anyway.

This looks different to me. When I use it, the entire screen literally turns white. Like the background of these posts.

    Different platform? I'm on a PS4 Pro.

EDIT: other people don't see the flash afaik. It's just for you.

I'm on PC and it's much brighter and white for me in game too. This video doesn't show how blinding bright it is, but it does show how the entire screen is affected. That's why I encourage players to check it out in game to get the real effect.

and it wasnt night time and my room is normal lighting.

Ah yes, there it is. That's how it looks.

It's amazing how much YouTube is able to tone it down. You'd think there wouldn't be any recoverable pixels in the white bits.

Thank you for sharing all of these captures. If I had done, there'd be a few extra hurdles for me (console and all that). Appreciate you. 👌

You need to take into account the quality of the video being uploaded. Youtube is not auto going through videos to calibrate in line with photo sensitivity, it's not that personalised.

Outside of the game, there are colouration settings in both the monitor and on your PC, the screen surface type if it's glossy or matte, whether playing in a sufficiently lit room. Whether there are underlying medical conditions of a viewer. It's not one straight answer.

Until they do put in a graphic setting to accommodate this, which I think they should, I am alarmed that people would continue to play something they can't predict that a moments notice may cause them pain.

Don't do it. If you truly are being impacted. Then you are not looking after yourself adequately. For the sake of a game.

This is such a insightful thread.

I highly suggest placing lights before attempting to decorate in most cases.

Frequently adjusting the brightness setting in tandem with my natural lighting helps as well.

I'm usually not bothered by (or notice) bright lights in-game.

    -HOWEVER-

There are two situations that DO bother me from being excessively bright:

    1. Players dropping that Templar AOE on NPCs while you're engaging with them, and

    2. That White Gold Tower replica you get from scrying. I put it in my house and it whited out everything. I couldn't see at all and had to deactivate it immediately.

There are some bright lights that bother me a little. The Beacon of Tower Zero is an antiquity light post I have to place back behind things to use, then I can tolerate it. But it's these flashes of bright white light that completely fill the screen that they attach to story quest steps that cause me actual physical pain. I know they are just trying to make it appear more dramatic, but there has to be a better way.

If it doesn't bother you, just use it as much as you want. It's on a very small cool down.

Other people in game just see the amulet twinkling and a bit of light at your feet.

Nobody else sees the full effect, but you. Just like other similar effect trinkets (i.e The one that turns the whole world red for a bit, etc.)

If you are on PC numerous addons allow you to move the default frames around to your liking. I use LUI, but know Azurah does a much better job of it.

After completing the quest, I have to agree. It didn't bother me as much as the OP, but the point is clear. They could have handled it in many ways already seen in game, including puffs of smoke. They should perhaps explore other options to show us 'powerful magic is afoot'.
