The Blackwood Chapter Reveal Concerns

I’m looking forward to this reveal, I’ve been disappointed in the past but this time has to be better, right?.... right...

Lol I hope they bring in some new magicka weapons, at this point Mag dps are using dual wield daggers. The staff is basically for blockade and RPing..

Let’s get some dual wield wands or something lmao maybe throw in an orb?! Idk, but seriously, we are using dual wield daggers..

I mean, at this point, I’ll take a broom or a “magical” tortoise foot over daggers to maximize my dps:)

I'd rather see the Destruction staff skill line fixed rather than introduce a new weapon class.

Impulse - turn this into a (ideally ranged) execute, as this is something most magicka classes are lacking
Destructive Touch - add major brutality to this skill (momentum and hidden blade both have this buff) and remodel Destructive Clench so that Fire gives the burning effect and damage over time and lightning adds a stun.

This would give more options, which the tree is currently lacking. Currently the only use able skills are wall of elements, the ultimate and crushing shock in some situations. If they can get the Destruction staff tree working correctly, I don't think we'd need anything else.

Kurog Gularz - Orc - Stamina Dragonknight
Ancano Galerion - High Elf - Magicka Sorcerer
Manabi Zenammu - Dark Elf - Magicka Dragonknight
Warlock Necros - High Elf Vampire - Magicka Nightblade
Rajirr Nightclaw - Khajit - Stamina Nightblade
Drifa Deathweaver - Nord - Stamina Necromancer
Aurodil - High Elf - Magicka Templar
Mother Daenia - Breton - Stamina Warden
    Souless-Robot - Orc - Stamina Sorcerer
Ursine Wildheart - Nord - Stamina Warden
    He'lea Asakale - Imperial - Stamina Templar

I more or less agree, I think the destruction magic subcategories need a complete rework. I also think a new weapon line for magicka tanking needs to be made. Seems like a lot of people are looking for a new damage-oriented magicka weapon but I think we need something sensible for tanking.

I think to aid tanking they should combine the staff and a shield into an item called...”the shaft.”

Which is what tanks are already getting really.

nope we are not getting any new weapons because we are getting companions..... don't expect anything more because you will be disappointed then.....last year we got antiquities this year companions.... I really was hoping this year that we could finally get 1h and rune but then zos revealed companions as the new system and I nearly uninstalled this game in dissapointment.

I know that Alteration staves are a very common suggestion, especially as they would involve very few assets. But, I've come around to the idea that illusion staves would perhaps be better suited for a new Support-oriented weapon type.

Most of the Alteration spells in previous games tend to fall under the idea of increasing durability, which while useful for tanks, isn't exactly something that they are missing or can't already find enough of through class/guild skill lines.

In comparison Illusion has often included spells that can provide boosts to your allies (such as Rally) and spells that are detrimental to foes (such as Demoralize, Fear, Fury, Calm, Silence, Paralyze). A properly built out Illusion staff line could offer support options that could help define what a "Magicka Tank" looks like in comparison to the traditional HA, S&B tank.

That's true, I've always been split on whether illusion or alteration would be better. Illusion also flat out has ''taunt'' spells, the fury/frenzy you mentioned. Some classifications of certain spells change from game to game (paralyze and telekinesis are both alteration spells post Oblivion), which would both be good ideas for new support skills in ESO.

I prefer pre Skyrim classifications of spells, but if ZOS adopted some Skyrim era classifcation of spells, alteration has a lot of potential, especially in making skills out of spells like telekinesis and paralysis, and on top of that, waterwalking, feather, and so on (pre skyrim).

I would also really like to see a shield on the magicka tanking staff. I pretty much exclusively play a nightblade tank and I use defensive posture for my shield, and I really wouldn't want my only option to be bone shield if I changed to the staff.

As much as I agree and would love to see new weapons I feel like if it was coming they would have already hyped it by now. Always next year... or at least that’s what I have been telling myself for years.

if you use dagger it means you are milking every dps you can and thus you don't care for what you use as long as it's optimal. You can safely use a staff for any content you like, not just for loreplay or blockade.

I use daggers because I always wanted to use daggers on my magblade because it feels more fitting with the assassination abilities. I had thought I’d have to go hybrid to make that work but my attempts at such were not successful so I’m loving that I can do good dps with daggers on a purely magicka nightblade!

I still use staff/staff on most of my magicka characters though. More options and especially an illusion staff as mentioned would be awesome! Mesmer was a fun class in GW2; not all of the abilities would be fitting in ESO of course, but Uncle Sheo does vanish in a cloud of butterflies so maybe some aspects could work!

They keep pushing it back little by little, the Companions promise might be a little too ambitious. I'm not saying its impossible having to gear them up, choosing their skills, and what roles they play is easy part; choosing their rotation might be pushing it though. I kind of expect something like Final Fantasy 12's Gambit system, but an actual control of their rotation not so much.

Blackwood offers nothing that truly entices me to spend money on the release.

What actually open my wallet would be changes their not willing to do; and those changes wouldn't require buying a chapter update. So it will be yet another year where I couldnt enjoy my favorite class, and I wont anticipate spending any money on the game.

I love this thread. Let's all complain about how disappointing the trailer will be before it even happens.

I'm expecting slight improvements and some good new features, but nothing extraordinary. I certainly wouldn't wanna try and bring other people down. They've already said they chose to slow down on big new features for this dev cycle due to how adjusting to remote work last year went. Source: The last official yearly preview stream.

Also, endgame magicka DPS are using staves or daggers depending on content, build, or player preference. That's build diversity, and some people (like me) are excited about it.

I - just have a general feeling of.... I'll be happy no matter what.... but maybe somethings will be "non-optimal". This isn't anything new for me - after MoP in WoW, I was.... done. When a game goes in a direction (or directions plural, as some have), I.... leave.

If it's not fun for me, I won't play it. At the moment, ESO isn't at that point for me.

    When it is....

GW2 Elite specializations would be great in ESO. I am sure we wont see a overhaul like that though.

At level X a class would gain three new core class skills and passives to choose over current core skill lines.

    For example Warden,

Green balance (Support) - Plant damage/control

Winter Embrace (Tank) - Frost glass cannon damage

Animal Companions (Damage) - Beast Support

What I hope to hear is an announcement that goes something like this....”and finally, a much requested feature has been the ability to hide not just headgear, but everything else. Well, it’s finally coming!” This might be too much to hope for, though. 🙂

Idk why you assume that ZOS hasn't revealed everything already, you will get the usual zone with 6 Delves, 6 World Bosses, 2 Public Dungeons, 1 Trial, 3 Craftable Sets and the new Oblivion Gates being the ''Dolmens/Geysers/Harrowstorms'' of the zone. It's also safe to assume that the patch will add some base game changes to skills/passives/items/etc.

Apart from the new Companion System, the rest is the same ''Chapter Zone Blueprint'' that they have been using for years. If they had something else planned for release like a new Class/Weapon/Skill Line they would have announced it when they mentioned Companions.

2021 is the year of roleplay with companions (two, correct me if I'm wrong). I'm glad we have other MMOs focused on pvp coming out this year, because ESO is currently getting closer and closer to become Sims 2.0. I mean companions, housing, pets, mounts etc. are nice addition to the MMO for some players and they sell well, but it shouldn't be the main thing. ESO lost it core. From MMO focused on three factions war, it turned in to housing simulator. PVE and PVP guilds are dying, because there are no real plans for fixing already released content or adding new content for them. After 7 years imbalance is everywhere and the only cure for now is disabling almost all sets for main pvp mode. At least I will recieve the companion to replace my friends who stopped playing.

This "reveal" is in all honesty just marketing... they will show some parts of the zone some of the companions features and maybe a set or 2 with a new house or something..... considering we actually already got the reveal at q1 with where the chapter will take place and what the new feature will be..... hell if you open the crown store to pre order you can already see that it's only the companions being added no new skill lines or weapons.... if their where any zos would have mentioned it at q1 to increase the sales of the chapter..... so people are not complaining before it even happens..... people are complaining because it already happened.... and I would not really call it complaining I would call it being realistic since whising for anything more will be a disappointment sadly

With how they screwed over vet players by not doing cp conversion I wont be buying chapter earliest in a few months when its 50% or more off. So only thing I am really interested is by how much they'll up the cp penalty point from the current 1800.

Hoping for at least 200 for chapters and 100 for dlcs.

There's like 6000cp worth of skills. So years of growth.

I personally would love to see staffs that don't look like staffs, I hate them. They are big, ugly magic making tools. Magicka users should be able to use their hands for spells. You do in Skyrim. So ..yes...yes..bring us spells like in Skyrim instead of staffs or make them not big ugly walking sticks.
