Best / easiest to obtain Starter PvP Gear?

Hey there!

I brought a good friend into ESO and he's about to hit max level soon. We both want to focus on doing PvP and now I would like to get him some gear or help him to get gear for PvP.

Now here's the question: which sets are the easiest to obtain (maybe by crafting or easier content outside of trials or vet dungeons) that I could get him before he reaches max level and max CP?

I would like to have two options, proc and no proc sets.

So dear fellow (PvP) players, what kind of equipment do you recommend me to get him (that's not too expensive or difficult to get but still not too bad for PvP in battlegrounds and Cyrodiil)?

Edit: you’re clearly right, I forgot class and build. I wanted to get him both, Stamina and Magicka sets so he has both options available. And he’s a Nightblade, but with another alt that’s a Sorcerer or Necromancer (can’t remember).

Cyro you obv cant use procs now. Easiest stuff to get for a mag toon would be something like shacklebrekaer and julianos (both crafted), for a stam toon hundings and say fortified brass (again both crafted)

Ps You can pick up purple willpower / endurance / agility rings from guild vendors easily, and maybe the odd piece of trainee to supplement. So maybe 2 5 piece sets + couple of these pieces to fill out the spots left by the monster helm gap.

Spinners is best damage for magica, and spriggan is best damage for stamina.

Both are overland drops from Publix dungeons, world bosses, dolmens, delves, treasure maps, chest and even quests. So you can farm it, buy from guild stores and also random boxes from cyrodiil with AP.

But you'll want weapons for both really, as you only need to front bar it (mostly anyway, as most people have buffs/debuffs mainly on back bar).

As far as other sets, I personally think you need a defensive set. Impregnable is good and drops in all weights from BG rewards (can buy from guild stores) and fortified brass is good too and craftable, so any weight. Beekeeper is ok, but a heavy set.

You also have some 3 piece sets that you can mix in. Agility, willpower, endurance and trainee. The fist three has strong 2 and 3 pieces, while trainee has strong 1 piece (and two piece for mag).

Also your monster sets. You can use one piece of any set along with one piece from any other. You can play around with more damage (kragh for stam and then balorgh/molag kena for both.

Something for sustain like chokethorn or bloodpsawn. Resistance sets like mighty chudan, pirate skeleton or lord warden

Then stat boosters, like swarm mother, domihaus, stonekeeper, which will add some damage as it"ll boost your primary stat, but also boost your off stat too which can be nice.

This is all for no proc. As far as adding proc sets in, far too many to mention. And it depends on if you're doing BGs, IC or duelling.

    Crafted: shackle breaker, Julianos, hundings.
    Overland: spinners/spriggans.

For overland sets dont go and buy every piece at guild stores, certain items you can get as quest rewards as well. For example you can the named spriggans maul Foe Smasher by doing a specific quest in bangkorai.

I see more then one person recommending shacklebreaker but it's not a good dps set even after the no proc update

The answer is easy...craft/buy what you feel best suits your build and play style because contrary to popular belief there isn't 1 BiS set to rule them all

@Brrrofski & @Firstmep pretty much summed it up. I know you said you want Proc & no-Proc setups, but honestly I'd advise sticking with no-Proc stuff for someone starting out.

Not only will their setup be good in any type of PvP they wade into, but they won't be learning to walk with crutches, so to speak. Getting good with abilities, positioning, mechanical skill / burst combo, etc. is a WAY better starting point for newcomers than trying to mentally juggle all the proc effects and conditions.

Don't forget that their brain is likely getting absolutely loaded with a bunch of new info, and focusing on the more pertinent stuff first is probably the way to go early on. Learning about procs and how to play around them should come after getting a feel for the basics, imo.

If they just started, stick to MagSorc and StamNecro. MagNecro is disgusting with procs, the other two are good in Cyro without. Especially the MagSorc.

Start with crafted sets since they’re new to the game and may want to to tweak some traits. They won’t have a lot of gems to experiment with, so it makes changing traits, weights, and sets easier.

The current meta only has a few variations and that is that. Do some homework and play lots of PvP.

    Have fun

His main is Nightblade and that’s the class we’re going to PvP with at first. Sorcerer or Necromancer is just his other character that he plays occasionally.

I know this list, but I really don’t know what are the best and easiest to obtain newbie sets for PvP.
    ________

I just talked to him and he might make his Necromancer his main (Magicka) - are there any other sets that are required for a Necromancer? He would like to play a Stamina Bow Warden as well (he is as indecisive as I am, lol). So what sets would you guys recommend for proc / no proc Magcro and Bowden?

@Seraphayel here are my thoughts on easiest to obtain from that list that are the most effective for beginners:

Stamina: Spriggans (overland Bangkorai), Draugr Hulk (Direfrost)

Magicka: Spinners (overland Malabal Tor), Crafty Alfiq (overland Northern Elsweyr), War Maiden (overland Vvardenfell)

Both: Shacklebreaker (crafted), Impregnable (can buy from guild traders), Fortified Brass (crafted), Plague Doctor (overland Deshaan)

My approach to pvp builds is to have one bar for offense, and one bar for defense/buffs.
In pvp you will want to avoid 'glass canon' builds in general, unless your ping is excellent. Glass canons rely on movement, and you won't be mobile enough if you don't have good ping.

    Sets I use (and why):
    • Hundings/Julianos: Both are offense oriented, with a focus on increased base damage.
    • Stuhn's: This is an excellent source of penetration, but at the cost of something else in the arsenal. And to make the most use out of stuhn's, a player needs to have a way to unbalance the target.
    • Spinners/Spriggans: Both are excellent for getting penetration. One is magic, one is physical.
    • Shacklebreaker: I use this set for the stats (stam/magic)
    • For the 2 offpieces, I use anything with a line of health or a stat I need.

Hope that helps, and good luck out there.

Also. Remember, Spinners and Spriggans both have different set item quest rewards for completing some zone quests. You can always check out the USEP site to see which quests have what you need before turning to a vendor.

Every time i see a build video with spriggans 2 hander that's not Foe Smasher, a little part of me dies inside.
Literally the best weapon in game.

Most sets on that list are fairly easy to obtain, actually. And until at least June, you are restricted to those sets(mostly) in cyro, so you can kind a just look at that list for reference.
You won't really get any different answers in this thread for now, as the choices are not really existing.
I would recommend you check out one of the player made websites like eso-set dot com, it's contains every set in the game, their parent site has a lot of new player guides as well, even for pvp.

More generally, since when do people wear shacklebreaker because "it's a good dps set"?

Only thing I'd add for OP is pvp is maybe a bit of an acquired taste, esp. right now. You can craft / get someone to craft a set of julianos / shackle / hundings / fortified etc in about 10 minutes and go try it out. If you like it, great, go trawl guild vendors for overland sets in right trait, or if you really life it, farm a dungeon for something like draugr. My hunch is that, given the sets we've got to play with, switching a set or two around might make a bit of a difference but won't alter the overall experience.

Throw on whatever is easy, & wait for the next meta change in two months as ZOS opens up a nerfed "balanced" proc sets again probably...unfortunately.

I'm not sure what you mean by max level? If you mean a new player hitting 160cp, gear wont help you, or your friend, much in cp Cyrodiil.

Save up tstones, gold, hakeijo, mats, & ap over the next few months. Join a PvP guild and learn the ropes, maps, and basic combat skills barely used in overland/norm dungeons: bash, los, block/heal, etc...

When new meta arrives you & friend will be bis ready.
