thank you, that is helpful. but im still guessing there is no way to get the slaver gear unbound, right? (i.e. so the item says "slaver jerkin" in the title)

Found this when I did a quest in Seyda Neen to go to Firemoth Island (The quest is named Breaking Through the Fog). On a dock there it lied a corpse and I could loot this. So that seems to be a way to get an unbound version of it.

oh man. I'm envious. I was on that island for 3 hours killing slavers, never got a thing. I think you may have a very rare item
It's not rare, you get it by doing the Morrowind tutorial. You get it during the quest Broken Bonds.
