Magic Damage

When an ability says it increases Magic Damage - that is a wand right? Even a resto staff?
I mistakenly chose the wrong morph on Imbue Weapon and used Elemental Weapon.
(do I have resspecc everything again?)

While healing, might well poke some foes for a little more damage...

Not so good for my sword...

Magic damage is an elemental damage like fire/frost/shock. Resto staff is the only one that deals magic damage. Spell damage does increase damage of all elements.

Spell damage and max magicka also increase healing power of magicka cost abilities as well.

Basically if the ability costs magicka it's offensive/healing stats scale with spell damage and max magicka. If the ability costs stamina it's offensive/healing stats scale with max stamina and weapon damage.

For the times you get abilities that cost health or are free their scaling is based off the damage type and rules displayed on the ability.
So for example magic, flame, ice, and lightning scales off max magicka and spell damage.
And physical, poison, bleed, and disease damage scales off max stamina and weapon damage.

Ultimates scale off your highest offensive stat but their damage type is still effected by spell/weapon penetration and spell/weapon critical ratings so keep that in mind when picking your ultimates.

Magic is a type of damage, it has nothing to do with staves.

An inferno staff, for instance, don't do "magic" damage. It does "fire" damage.
A restauration staff is non-elemental. It's attacks deals "magic" damage.
So does, for instance, cristal fragment. Magic damage is non-elemental magicka related damage.
