New companions should be able to do our crafting surveys

I'm not sure if this is already going to be a feature of our new companions but I feel it is needed.

This weekend I was considering if I should purchase the new expansion and I couldn't figure out exactly why I would need to. With no new skill line or class, and no need for a "companion" to help me with solo content, it seems as if this upcoming expansion is not necessary for the amount of money they are asking.

Letting our companions do menial tasks, such as crafting surveys, would give people, who otherwise have no reason to purchase this expansion, a reason to.

Yeah I wish my companion will be able to do all dailies for me xd. I just hope it won't turn him into a slave.

The survey's you get from doing crafting writs. I would imagine it could work like the "hireling" passive we currently have in our skill trees where when we log off a "worker" will send us a small amount of mats when we log back on after 12 hours. Except in this case the companion would be doing your crafting surveys while you are offline.

Or they could simply make survey gathering in bulk, instead of running away and back if having a lot of them in the same spot.

This is also a great idea.

Oh, that would be great, but i am sure it is not going to happen. Either the companions, or even more so the hirelings should be able to receive at least one survey from us to pick up every day.

I don't want to sound smug, but isn't the point of the companions to be able to "do content for you" that you would otherwise not be able to complete?

Maybe I have been misled on them but it appears as though this expansion is being sold as a way for companions to help you complete content, such as vet MA, and world bosses that you might not otherwise be skilled enough to complete as a solo player.

As far as I remember, devs told on the stream that you can take the companions everyhwere apart form PvP zones obviously and solo arenas.

lolol people already flirting with the idea of making companions into servants and errand boys.

"Sir Sewell, we've had many great adventures together.. It's time for you to make me some spare armor I can sell, pick my flowers, mine my survey's, fetch my dailies and do my laundry"

It's very much a matter of taste but I'd personally hate playing a companion manager subgame or managing anything else which plays itself while I'm logged off. It was not the reason I gave up on that other MMO but certainly did not help.
Crafting research waitgame is annoying enough.

Doubt it will happen. But I'd be fine with paying an npc hireling gold to go pick up my surveys. I do writs on more than one character, and running around [mostly] non-combat areas to pick up survey mats can take up a lot of time I'd rather be playing. NPC hireling brings back mats; my crafter refines, I sell the tempers/mats for gold and pay the hireling.

Its pretty simple, just dont let suverys pile up. I run mine once a week or once every two weeks.
It doesnt take that much time and I dont have them clogging my inventory.
If you cant/wont do that they just sell or destroy the things

Also, companions wont be allowed in solo arenas (VMA) so they arent being sold as a way to help you complete that.

Literally every relationship between player and companion in Skyrim. xD

I'd guess the companions will be a Warden Bear with some customization options, don't know what else they could do with them.

No, the point of the companions is to be able to do content WITH you. You still have to be there doing your part.

There is a difference between helping you complete content and just sending them out to complete content for you. Obvious is obvious. Are you somehow trying to make a correlation between having a companion help you complete it as opposed to another player? Because who wants the drama of another player honestly, not everyone wants to be in a group and further just to be a bit cheeky I can get drama on these forums by reading all of the posts here.

You missed the explanation thread. I think possible romance with a bear would be a bit much. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/559462/companions-a-breakdown-of-the-new-feature-by-rich-lambert/p1

If they do then they can’t have CP passives like Plentiful Harvest to balance them out.

As they seem to have copy and pasted SWTOR's companion system, they can do things like this there, so I'm sure they will here.

    not... entirely.

you see, there are two different kinds of gathering in swtor. one is where you send them out which is a manual equivalent of a hireling. and the other is when you can direct them to gather a node while you are gathering another node at the same time. but you both have to be there, you just get to gather in half the time

so... if our companions WILL be able to help us gather, its going to be that second one, NOT the send them out for passive errands. as we already have hirelings for that.
    dirty worthless casual.

The idea is for companions to "do content with you". I'm fine with the companions doing your surveys but you have to accompany them to supervise.

Wait...not in pvp? Who's going to carry those unstackable siege engines for others to steal?

Maybe we need a wagon instead of a companion....
