Greatswords, swords, mauls, maces, battleaxes, axes or daggers?

For the heavy weapons and twin blade and blunt passives, which do you think should be the general go-to now?

Axes have fallen out of favor for me after losing the extra bleed damage, the bonus Crit damage seems quite lackluster and less effective as you continue to increase your crit chance. Maul + Sharpened can reach just shy of 7k penetration, with a Bosmer (Hunter's Eye) or a Necromancer (Detonating Siphon + Dismember) pushes ahead over that. Greatsword I'm using Nirnhoned for Sorc and DK. Dual Wielding, I'm sticking to Swords and Daggers for the time being, again dropped Axes, I may give Maces a try later.

In the past, when it comes to both passives, I've stuck to using greatswords or daggers. Speaking as someone who sticks to divines and precise and generally stacks crit, do you think I still should?

I've been testing the new mauls, I'm still not too wild about them.

In general. Depends on your crit chance and penetration I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Let's be extremely precise in our use of terms.

It's the other way around, it becomes more effective as you increase your critical strike chance. The number might be too low at the moment though. The old sword passive was 6% on everything and, according to the developer comment, they replaced it because it "didn’t scale the way they appeared and seemed stronger than they were".

Axes has less dmg now, even on crits in many cases.

It is either swords or maces at this point.

Weapon dmg boost or penetration boost. Crit chance is too low to be effective and getting decent (45% +) requires way too many sacrifices in other aspects of the build. So pretty much axes are dead and daggers (to some degree) too.

ZOS over-nerfed crit chance, to the point in which I seriously consider running brutality ring.

Well, I'm definitely keeping daggers on the characters that have them, the revised crit chance from them is still not too shabby, it puts my stamblade over 60% crit chance on the DW bar.

Testing with my old live build sets on the PTS with mauls reveals that they are probably going to be the go-to now, at least for me, NMA does give me a little extra penetration, and my penetration has never been that high on stam chars.

The bleeds on battleaxes and 1h axes were something I considered for about five minutes, once lol.

PvP or PvE? In PvE, Daggers>everything else. In PvP, Maul generally the best with Greatsword also getting some decent results.

Axes in general, I think should have received a new bonus to Execution effects, when a target's health is below 50% (25% in PvP) your attacks and healing do increased damage/healing to that target.

    Daggers > Swords ≥ Maces > Axes
So pretty much axes are dead and daggers (to some degree) too.
Why are Daggers dead? They increase your critical strike chance and this is still the best way to go.

Imho daggers = more crit, less crit damage. Swords = less crits, more crit damage (because more weapon damage).

The situation of course matters (build, class, target, group comp, etc), but if I had to narrow it down, it would be daggers for PVE and maces for PVP.

If one thing is clear, they missed the mark on axes in the rebalance. They need a pretty hefty buff to be considered competitive in almost any situation.

I'm sticking with what I always used. My magplar uses a sharpened greatsword, my necro uses a sharpened maul, my DK uses a variation (two swords, or two maces, or one sword and one mace) depending on what I feel like that day.

Axes should grant status effect chance and a fat amount at that considering what bonuses you give up for them.
We already have daggers for crit weapons anyway.
It would keep in line with their bonuses not carrying over when you bar swap, which is why they removed the bleed.
Actually proccing hemmorhage is really hard Right as most bleed effects are dots, and many of them only tick every 2 seconds.
I'd also like the initial hit of twin slashes and carve morph of cleave to be changed to bleed dmg type since these skills deal bleed dmg with their dots anyway.
And the dw ult IMHO should be bleed as well.

    I love daggers.
So I only use daggers in PvP and PvE.

The daggers are nice, when we could make use of the Outfit System, I went over from swords to daggers on my stamblades. To this day, the extra critical chance from those is still lovely. So if you're dual-wielding, it's daggers that get props from me, hands down.

I just wanted to know if there was a difference in damage dealt with a maul/mace versus a greatsword/sword. It's my impression that mauls would be the better 2h weapon now, but I've no hard data, it's just an impression.

Are we talking about Magicka or Stamina? PvP or PvE?

Seems like Axe is useless for PvP and PvE now. And why should players that chose axe for bleed dot want critical damage as a replacement? A proc with static value and crit damage that is dependent of crit chance and base damage are 2 completely different things. PvE Players use daggers anyway and in PvP almost nobody builds for crit. Probably most Axe users in PvP had Proc Builds with malacath Band. Both Swords and Maces are better in PvP now. Axes should get one of their bonuses too. Also dont know why it was so bad that axe bleed can continue after weapon swap.

You'd seriously use such weapons on a magicka build? Stamina, obviously.

PvP is irrelevant to me, so, PvE.

So, for PvE, of the 2h weapons, which would you most recommend? Maul or Greatsword?

At what crit chance do battle axes start to perform well? I run at 60.5% and just acquired a Kinras battle axe, already have a precise great sword but I feel the 8% crit damage (and healing from Critical Surge is coo) could outperform the 284 weapon and spell damage

Daggers for PvE? Mace for PvP? Sword for Procs? Axe for Sticker Book?

Daggers are the go-to one-handed weapon for PvE right now but axes are looking good for next patch, I don't know if somebody has parsed on the PTS. Swords and maces are a bit more situational, but it shouldn't be hard to figure out when to use which.
