Spinners and Medusa

Looking to set up my magplar for pvp. Was thinking running 5 Medusa on body with spinners jewelry and weapons. It's it silly to mix these sets or would this be somewhat viable?

Just to make you aware: Medusa is a proc set by the definition of Zenimax and as such doesn't work in Cyrodiil.

Really? How is that considered a proc set?

Only the minor force bonus of the set is considered a proc, you could still get all the other spell crit bonuses if you so wanted.

On MagPlar, you will have to determine how you will obtain defense against critical hits or have some resistances, or even use damage shields to be able to last in that type of a build. In order to play overland Cyro, your Templar has to be built as beefy and beastmode as you can get. So, high defense first, high damage second.

If you're going to play at range and behind a group of people (like a zerg), a crit-build may work decently.

But in 1v1, any good player is going to rip you to shreds, especially a Night Blade or a Sorc.

If you want to play a light armor build, go for fire staff/resto staff & damage shields. Also use dodge roll as your form of defense since light armor is well suited for it now. Regen, Living Dark, and heals under a shield are super nice.

If you play heavy armor, go with a fire staff/sword&board. S&B plays well off of heavy armor. You will have to save your stamina for break-frees and blocking. (Avoid dodge roll unless an emergency.) This is a bit more for 1vX play, which I like more. Adding mist form makes it even more cancer lol.

Living Dark is good. Don't let anyone tell you its trash.

Currently, I'm playing Fire Staff/S&B with 70% resistances and average critical resistance (2200) because most people are not running more than 20k penetration. Though some days, if NB's are ticking me off, I'll forego my dps for 2800 crit res. But mist form and block/heals usually take care of everything.

7k penetration is the bare minimum to run. I much prefer 13k-16k, though I have gotten it up to 21k.

25k health bare minimum in shields. 30k in heavy/35k if more tanky, but I prefer 5k+ spell damage worth of dps with 70% mitigation. Have at least 13k stamina so you can break free 3 times.

27k bare minimum defense. This will give you about 40% mitigation. If someone penetrates your armor it will go down to 30% or 20% usually. Your damage shields have 0 resistances by the way.

I'm not a fan of running Impregnable armor just for crits because I lose out on the extra 10% mitigation from straight tanking.

Templar's, imo, are built to tank and spank and recover yourself and your team. So, I don't favor building them as a crit-build in PVP, though I can run around 30% crit rate and 60% crit damage, which is average.

I prefer a dot-dps build on Templar, over a combo build, for the simple fact that I would rather spam jabs at my target's flank, while all my dots are going off. I've tried combos on Templar and they are just too clunky for me. It gives your enemy time turn around and you can't chase their flank well then. Also 0.8 seconds on Dark Flare is begging a good player to interrupt you and put you on your defensive back-bar.

Since Templar's generally get sent to their back defensive bar, in order to stay on top of a fight, you have got to maintain intense pressure on your target during the whole fight. Jabs and dots do that while chasing the flank, and a well timed stun/SWEEP.

Finally, combos actually are ok if you are at range or catch an enemy unaware. But as soon as they are aware, you're only going to get a good combo off on an average player.

Sometimes I run Storm/regens for group play. I could type all day adding stuff....

High Elf is the dps templar standard race for PVP. I've tried every race. High Elf was successful more consistently. Breton is great if you plan on full-timing a healer/support. High Elf lets you heal 40-50% from jabs and you get 5% + 2.5% protection while jabbing as High Elf.

Is Templar in a good place right now? Well, that's really debatable. I mean it's **OK**. Templar is not built to be a DPS power house like Sorc/NB. I mostly outlive all combat if I can line of sight people during 1vX. 1v1 is great until I get a good Sorc or NB. DKs, Wardens, Necros are all hard to kill and that becomes a battle of attrition: who will out last? Getting kills is hard on good players, but I do get kills on everything else. I don't kill streak-happy sorcs generally (but who does?) Jabs can get side-stepped easily, so you really have to play ring-around-the-rosey with your target and stay on them. This is where a charge ability is crucial. Templars in groups cross healing and spamming jabs though..... now there's a nightmare for you. lol

    I miss Balorgh's.

Wasn't the whole point of nerfing shield strength and duration because they were taking into account the resistances ?

That is my understanding late in the game. God, I couldn't imagine a 25k+ shield sorc running damage shields that also get to add resistances on top of those shields. That was like.... what Q4 2016??

I would straight up delete ESO and play something else if that ever came back.

Sorcs have their shields, NB's have their invisible, and Templar has block/heals+purges.

    We're all cancer.

Yes, damage shields are subject to resistances and penetration for a long time now.
