My desire for Dresses over Robes (The Tavern Maid)

Several Costumes had come close to me "Will Wear" list, but never make it on account the Robes in ESO always fall to the ground around the ankles. Combine that with the way the character skeletons work it creates a mess of visual oddities when walking/running, being mounted etc. Instead I'd been dreaming of Robes ending higher up the leg, at least at mid calf if not knee high. Having the Robe like styles and costumes end further up the leg would alleviate these issues as well as let us see any footwear that comes with the Costume or let us choose our own with an outfit style.

My favorite so far is the Tavern Maid. It's SO incredibly simple. A cloth Dress with a corset, and a Necklace to accessorize. The best part is the main dress ends in waves around the knee. The worst part is there's a second layer continuing down to the ankle, like all other robes. This then gets affected by the visual bugs when moving, mounting. I had gone into an image editing to see what it would look like without that second layer.

If the Maid Dress looked like this, I'd honestly wear it nearly all the time.

That skirt looks weird to me without the second part.

I would like more calf length skirts as a general rule though!

I rather see robes and kilts/skirt/whatever to call them of more different styles than dresses, so it's more unisex. Things like the mage's robes from Skyrim and similar.

The Maid Dress is fine as it is, it's a tavern maid's dress after all. I wouldn't say no to one looking similar to the screenshot version, but it should never replace an already existing look.

Long skirts are good, but in the real life with real physics :) Same for the cloaks in every TES game.

Yeah, would like to see half dresses/skirts in. I do like the long dresses but hate how they look when moving or how it deletes your legs.
That one khajiit obsessed with werewolf behemoth and vampire lord. Lady Thorn is bae, dont @ me.
    Werewolf behemoth=vampire lord>blood scion>werewolf>vampire.

The shortened dress looks odd. Maybe, for practical purposes, a bar keep wouldn’t wear floor sweeping robes/skirts/pants - the fabric will just be floor mop for the spilled drinks. But that knee length is a bit too short. Probably mid-calf or below knee will be better.

With this whole costume I find it rather strange that the lacing of the corset is in the front - shouldn't it be on the back?

When the lacing is on the back it means that a servant helps you put on your clothes.

Then of course there may be a problem in the case of, let´s say, Khajiit and Argonians. :p

    No it doesn't.

It's just a different style, or not a proper corset.

Still, this one would find it fiddly to do lacing at the back, despite being a nimble khajit.

Dresses look horrible in this game IMO. The mini skirt outfits they added look great though, I wish we would get more variations of them in the game.

Eh, not really. It's not about the corset part, it's about not being able to reach. Lacing in the back usually means you have someone to help you dress or that you're bendable in ways most humanoids are not.

Corsets and stays were just typical underwear back in the day, and they are for the most part put on by yourself. It's not that hard to lace a corset and you don't need to be super nimble.

I don't know, a classic corset, for example a baroque corset, in which the waist is extremely laced, cannot be brought into the desired shape by yourself. My mother once needed a medical corset and she couldn't lace it on her back by herself.

"For the most part". There are exceptions, like some medical ones. Also, tight lacing wasn't the norm so no help was needed to lace it. Though if you were upperclass then you likely had someone do it for you, because it was easier, not needed.

You could probably put it on backward, lace it up, and then twist it around so the laces are in the bank if you're by yourself. :)

Possibly. But why bother having a corset/bodice at all! This one prefers their meaty goodness to be untrammelled :D

Also, this one is very curious and wants to know how many who posted on this thread have worn, or currently wears these contraptions?

There are enough fashion styles that still include corsets for men and women today, let's take Gothic or Steampunk, for example, or historical costumes (well, and beyond that there are sure to find other opportunities).

Then you must lace it up very sloppily, and twist your dress to boot.

I'm very fond of historical fashion, and historical fashion turned more modern. So I have and similar items.

My granddaughter is heavily into Goth and Steampunk - corsets are one of her things. Today's versions are apparently more comfortable than the historical originals from the 15th to 19th centuries.

A lot of corsets and stays (They are not the same, and which was used depends on the time period) from those times were comfortable. I'd say many would be more comfortable than modern ones. Because they were often tailored to your body and boned with whalebone. Creating a light, somewhat flexible corset that when worn shaped after you even more. Meanwhile modern better quality ones are usually made in waist sizes and uses steel for boning. Which is much heavier and does not shape itself.

The best today is to learn how to make them yourself after old principles (Or have someone do it for you), but with a modern touch. Like using syntethic whalebone, because harming whales is awful.

I should probably stop talk about corsetry...

The thread definitely turned from shorter Robe styles to the manufacturing and applications of Corsets.

But that's not so inappropriate when we look at the dress. :)
