Reflections from a returning player

Greetings

I originally started playing both ESO AND Guild Wars 2 five years ago after doing a lot of research on the best games for Mac (this post isn't about contractual obligations & my feelings aboot that matter). It is more to do with what I don't really like about ESO after returning & playing heavily for the last month or so & a couple of suggestions that address those dislikes.

I really don't like how resources are first come first serve, including chests we discover.
That contributes to a general "mean spiritedness" I witnessed during the recent Clockwork City/Vvardenfall swarming events.
I also am not a fan of how each of my alts (I have 2) have to slog through the Mages guild, the Thieves guild, the Psyjic order guild etc etc
You've made CP shareable across account, why not the Guilds?
Why aren't resources/chests available for every player instead of first come first serve?
The lack only contributes like I mentioned before to meanspiritedness as well as how frigging capitalistic this game's economy is.
Maybe that is the point?
Not a fan.

You have these beautiful maps full of verticality & also character fall damage.
Where are the jumping mounts?
The ones that can launch me up on top of those giant mushrooms or throughout Orsinium?

Depending on where Zos/Bethesda/Microsofts future renegotiated contractual obligations lead these irritations might take care of themselves for me.
As it stands, my participation across the game is already limited.
But I wanted to put my 2 bits in

Thanks

uth

    Afterthought
You have group areas where factions go to bump up against each other
Make the resouces in THOSE areas first come first serve

Chests can be particularly valuable and give an alternative to fighting or questing for gear drops. If they’re availability is broadened it will not only cheapen the economy it will only add to the “ easy mode” nature of the game. Farming like all other activities in the game should have some element of work to it.

There are a lot of ways to work multiple use chests, nodes etc into the game without "ruining the economy".
It's a virtual economy driven by clearcutting, strip mining & what have you.
Perhaps chests can have 2 or 3 "charges" as well as nodes.
If the intent is to encourage PvP over resources, make it more worthwhile to do so.
Either way I stand by my point about meanspiritedness over resources.
    Capitalism sucks literally and virtually

Overland chests aren’t usually that valuable. Unless we talking a chest in Deshaan or something. You can share chests in dungeons tho. Farming nodes would be nice if they could be shared I agree. They regen at a good rate but going for that node and having someone grab it first kinda sucks. Ik where you’re coming from with GW2 system of daily node reset. Personally I like being able to farm what I need without limit tho, while gw2 has that daily limit. I’m pretty lazy as far as farming nodes goes unlike some of my friends tho.

I disagree on pretty much all points here.

There is an abundance of resource nodes as well as chests throughout Tamriel. Enough that if someone is farming, you can go to a different location and find lots of ones that are non-farmed. Having keen eye on will even make the chests stand out nice and clearly.

I will agree that the clockwork event (as well as any event with double nodes) lent itself to people being a bit 'mean spirited'. It's a side effect of lots of people in a small zone with rewards for picking nodes. This is not the typical experience I have while farming outside of event zones. If anything, by pulling the typical farmers there, it made other zones much more appealing to farm, as there was even more mats to be had.

Allowing multiple people to farm the same node doesn't make sense, and would potentially flood the market with materials causing the value to plummet. If these resources were scarce already I'd be in favour of increasing them, but they are plentiful.

For guild quests. There is an option to pay your way in a second character, but I won't use that. By not just auto-filling these on my alts, it gives me the opportunity to collect the quest rewards and xp for these quests multiple times. Now that cp means something again, I'll take all the xp I can get.

As for high jumping mounts. It would defeat the purpose of terrain in this game. Which is to restrict direct access to areas. I'm also not in favour of flying mounts. They put that in the game, and I may just quit. Last thing I want to log into is a sky full of people darting all over all the time.

As for the economy being capitalistic, well yup. That's how this one works. I'm not a fan of it in reality, but as far as video game mechanics goes, its been a rather enjoyable way to spend my time.

If you want a game where the things you do don't affect other players, and vice versa. There is a large amount of single player games that would fit the bill. Perhaps you should play those instead?

Not really sure that judging the entirely of the resource system on the basis of the Clockwork City event just passed is giving you a proper perspective.

For starters, the event was time-limited and offered expanded resource drops if you harvested them. Clockwork City map is also really small, and Vaardenfell's (while larger) is not as easy to navigate for people who have not been there before, so there was a literal stupid amount of people crammed into a very small space of CC for way too long imho. When competition for everything was that crammed, a few feathers can sometimes get ruffled the wrong way.

In the general, day to day of the game, I don't think it's an issue in 90% of the time.

I have been here since the beginning, and that includes beta. Once in a blue moon I have seen someone heading to the same resource as me. I usually start to peel off when that happens, but have often been surprised by how many times the other player does the same, trying to leave the node for me instead. Same with chests. Honestly, there are so many in the game, it doesn't make sense to increase them just to reduce the chances of another player taking "your" node or chest.

Just move on in the area, there are always more. Taking note of other players' "mean spiritedness" also just seems a bit over sensitive to what might in fact just be someone else who didn't see you. And for the few times it is clear that the someone else is trying to "beat you" to the resource, again - they are all over the place, so you can easily move on to the next one, instead of taking offense.

Also, chests are available to all players in your group in dungeons and trials, so you can always dip your toe in that part of the game content to get access to shared chest rewards without worry you are losing out on opportunity.

Basically, the OP wants ESO to be more like GW2. I don't, which is why having played both games I prefer to play ESO.

I have also had this experience.

You learn when you're farming that if you're in the same space as someone else, you're both only getting about half the resources.

Best to just move along to one of the other spaces that has lots of stuff to farm without competition.

I can't get in to dungeons and trials because my operating system is not supported but that specific information is nowhere to be found unless you read old dev announcements

Thanks to everybody that had something constructive to say
