You seem to be thinking of paying AP to swap your home campaign? You can still do that, but I don't believe that impacts the faction lock at all.
There is an faction-unlocked CP campaign under "Standard" and the No CP campaign is also faction-unlocked. Those might not be ideal, but they are options for playing your main character.
Damn that really sucks, honestly that decision to lock it for the ENTIRE time doesn't make any sense to me. It actually made me delete the game just now, I literally cant play the game because of a design choice the developers have made.
Thanks for the info.
It was only done in that campaign for the purposes of popular demand. There was a period of time when cross faction double teaming and zone chat spying was a problem for coordinated groups. (Probably still is but less prevalent than before) You can still PVP on your main in a non-alliance locked campaign until the duration on the Gray Host one ends.
