How can i hide my stuff for the Group-Loot Add-On

I am an angry old man who find it very intruding when my random group members ask for stuff i have looted, and not linked in chat. If i dont want to share with them, why should the Add-On do it? Where is my right to keep loot a secret? What settings do i need to adjust to protect my precious loot from prying eyes? If its not something i can adjust in settings, which Add-On is hiding my highly valued loot? If there aint an Add-On yet, can someone please make it so i can have my beloved loot for myself?

Group only with people you know and like.

Turn off group chat and play in offline mode.

Instantly ignore all the horrible people politely asking if you don't happen to need something in a group dungeon.

    Problem solved.

Just tell them that you need it. The worst thing that will happen is that they get salty, in which case you can ignore a toxic player, the best thing is that they might offer you a fine pile of gold. Every loot that is broadcast to the world is an opportunity to better your situation. Lean in to it.

I like to just ignore them til the end of the run and then post what i have in group chat. If they continue whispering me, it never gets posted and I go my merry way. It's surprising the few people that have called ME rude for ignoring them.

This is clearly a case where the addon is intruding too much, I aways disliked this "feature" of some addons.

You can't, there is no escape, MWAHAHAHA. No but seriously, I would advise just putting out a simple "trade at end" in chat for those that are whispering you trying to snipe a specific item with the addon before the dungeon has been completed, and then if you don't feel like trading, you can always just simply leave afterwards. I'll admit that I myself am guilty of using the addon to snag items that multiple people were competing for, it's very handy but I do agree that it's a little intrusive; I couldn't believe that it just straight up told me exactly what items people obtained, in their exact weight, trait, and classification.

Haha this always cracks me up. It's group loot. So what if they know what dropped. Some games it's automatically built into it. Just don't respond. Problem solved. But why do I have to because they did and now it's harder for me to be left to myself in an mmo. Oh the run arounds of first world problems.

If it's group loot, then everybody in the group should get it.

If each person in the group got different loot, then it wasn't "group loot."

    IMHO; YMMV and clearly does.

This type of "What's yours is mine" mentality is all the more reason not to play in a group, AFAIC.

Just tell them you need it and you wouldn't even be lying because deconning the gear even if you already have it collected gives crafting materials.

No, it's not group loot. There's no loot roll, no "need, greed, pass" function. There's personal loot, it drops for one character only, but ZOS has made the items tradable within the group for a certain amount of time after the drop.

Personally I just slap an immediate ignore on the person and move on with the dungeon, or out of it if we're done.

How I handled this has evolved. At first I would ignore requests and either keep it of give to someone else with no explanation. Then I decided at the start of each dungeon/trial I would say all requests for drops will be ignored until after completion. Neither worked well. Now if I get a request I respond remind me at the end. They remind me and we make the trade. Sometimes they give gold even though I never ask.
The exception to that is if someone before we start posts in group chat looking for... I figure those are probably players close to finishing a set so I give them priority.

Short of it is the add-on doesn't bug me like it once did.

I find it rude when people ask directly for the specific item, I'd much rather people be like "I'm looking for insert_set_name_here" and then waiting until the end for trading, this allows people to go through what they have and not feel under pressure for any specific thing.

I was in a trial one time and like 5 seconds after I picked up an item someone whispered me for it, I realized that they're trying to "exploit" and jump ahead of the regular trading process at the end, I called them out to the whole group. Needless to say they never got the item they tried to get and I'm pretty sure no one else traded with them either lol.

In the end, its a group dungeon and the items are tradeable for a reason but as long as you're considerate of people most likely having introverted personalities(like myself) and you have good manners when asking the group, then I'm okay with it. But as many introverts probably agree, directly asking me for a very specific item is invasive and I'm not very fond of it, kind of like nails on a chalk board, I'd rather see you ask the entire group. Besides, you should always say what you're looking for at the beginning because under many circumstances as soon as the dungeon is completed I've left the group and the instance and started another activity within seconds lol.

That addon is great. I've gotten so much good gear because I whispered people. Alot of people dont link the loot they dont need but dont mind giving it away if asked. Now with the sticker book theres no need to hoard anything. As long as I have already collected the item I always give it away when asked. And if I don't have it collected yet I'll just tell them that I need it. Very rarely someone gets salty.

I actually quite like the add on for posting all loot info neatly into chat, and yes, to get an appreciation for what the run provides in drops, not necessarily the individual who got it.

If there is something I truly want, then I will message the person, using full sentences, with please and thank you, and ask if they would be happy to sell x, y, z to me if they did not need'.

I found that I have done quite well that way, but have also been in your position, OP of receiving 'U NEED DAT?' followed by a ??? after a minute, and like you - absolutely refuse to indulge them.

Think on this for a moment though. Is it the mods fault, or their mothers failed to raise polite people.

For most of the players I run with, it is basically a time saver. We see what everyone gets and let them know if we need it. No one has to worry about linking anything.

Sorry to say that, but you can do nothing about that.

ZoS coded the game to have your loot information broadcasted to your group members. So, no "Loot Blocker" addon is possible at your side as the game server sends the information about all the drops (yours included) directly to other players (and your client is out of these communication paths (from server to other clients) and cannot affect that anyhow) .
Unless the Game-makers change the existing mechanics to add you controls upon the said server behaviour, you are helpless.

It’s all how polite people are:

    If I get:
    give me divine fg guards

I kinda just ignore till the end and post things I don’t need

    If I get:
Hey WiseSky, I been watching you since the trial started, and wow first of all your outfit really matches your sweet looking skin. I must also admit the colour palette you chose really matches your eyes too! I am so happy to be in a group with you since you really seam like you can do good DPS And you only sometimes agro the boss before the tank. I am sure those 3 times you died was cause of lag or something happened, as it does happen to the best of us. I know that you saw me teabaging you the 3 times when you dropped from getting one shot for standing in stupid brave instead of rezing you , it is a sign of respect and friendship. Also can I have divine fg guards bro?

That person gets whatever they want!

    so much ignorance.
most people do not ever bother to post in chat the items they do not need. Why would anyone do, anyway? with this addon i can just see if you get something i need.
if you don't want to give it, fine. End of story and good luck.
if however you don't need it, thanks to this addon i know you got it and i know that i can ask you for it.
it happened so many times for me that i got items when i whispered someone, even repeated because they didn't see the message, even if posted in group chat, even when they left the group, simply because i knew they got it.

stop assuming that anyone is demanding anything from you. This addon just shows information, doesn't give entitlement. And don't tell me you never needed something from a dungeon, and asked the others to give it to you if they got it.
this addon just shortens the time for everyone, and helps everyone in completing their needed items. Whoever feels invaded by sharing their loot information just doesn't understand its utility.

also, if you say in chat at the start that you need whatever, by the end of the dungeon anyone forgets and nobody bothers to scroll up thinking "what did that guy need?". And even if you ask, how many people will bother searching through their inventories for you?

My solution would be quite simple: "Nope, you can't have it, and quit peeking through my windows, or I'll call the cops". I won't be whispering that either, I'll be advertising it for the entire group, and if it persists, for the entire zone to hear.

You don't owe anyone an explanation. If they ask if you are going to use it say "yes". If they ask if they can have it say "no". If they keep asking don't reply.

The add-on is such a time saver. If I see a piece I really want, I will whisper asking if they need it, regardless of answer, "have a nice day thnx for the run bye bye."
PS: i will never see eye to eye with the people against this add-on, since our beliefs on the matter are different, while I believe the loot is shared loot and sharing it if it is not needed is common courtesy (after all, it has their name on it too) they believe that the loot is exclusively theirs, example:
