Are Mage and Atronach now underpowered because of the bonuses from CP? Those are what I have been using on my healers but maybe I should change that...

I would imagine that Atronach got a lot better in comparison, with sustain down due to the removal of Arcanist/Mooncalf and Tenacity and the nerf to Major/Minor Intellect. The Ritual also got a lot better in comparison, with sources of Healing Done removed or reduced, although Healers had the tendency to overheal too much last patch anyhow. That might be different now though, with DDs sporting more health but less mitigation, alongside tanks taking more incoming damage. I would suggest considering how much crit chance you already have in comparison to your other stats, like Healing Done and Magicka recovery; if you are playing Breton, maybe consider Ritual or Thief, and if Argonian, both Thief and Atronach are good options. Of course, if you feel like you really need that extra spell damage/magicka, Mage or Apprentice could always be a possibility. Up to your personal preference, really.

I was already using Thief on my NB healer.. But that's been the idea of his character from the beginning; Critical healing. I think Atronach is another popular choice.

Thief certainly makes sense for Sorc healers running Power Surge. I'm not sure it beats out the Apprentice, Atronach, or Ritual otherwise though. Crit chance isn't really something most healers rely on (because it's too unpredictable unless it's very high).

Personally, I've been running the Steed on my DK healer for a while, and it's great from a quality of life perspective.

That was my thought. We used to have a base of 1/3 chance to critical with cp no matter what the class.

The Shadow Mundus is a decent option for Necro healers if you already have a solid crit chance. They have a passive that increases crit chance for healing on low health allies. I run that on my PvP Necro healer and it helps with dealing a little extra damage and big heals when your ally needs them most.

My healplar doesn't care for the idea of unpredictable heals. When a big heal is required, it must be 100%. So her focus remains spell power instead of crit - with the bonus that it boosts her damage as well. No change from Apprentice here.

Well multiple stones can be useful, depending on what you want to achieve.
Ritual is best for your healing in almost every case.
When you want to maxinize the damage you can do while healing, either thief or apprentice will be the top choice. Which one is better depends on your class, race, gear and the buffs you get from your group members.
Mage is basicly just a weaker version of apprentice and as a healer you generally won't reach the point where the shadow becomes better than the thief.
Atronarch would be a good choice if you actually needed more recovery, but in my experience it's almost impossible to run out of magicka on a pve healer this patch.

Absolutely not! I think the Attronach is still the best option. For Begginers and Veterans alike. Just by being the most impacting choice.

A little reminder here. With 7 pieces of Divines:
    Thief 2182 crit chance (~10%)
    Attronach 507 recovery
    Ritual 13% Healing done

So with 70% Crit healing and 10% Chance we will have an average of 7% increased healing in comparison to the Ritual.
So, after consideration of basic spell damage and the increase to heal strength it gives, there can only be one conclusion:
The longer a fight goes the more impact the Atrronach has in comparison, because recast are going to outheal 13% and 7% increased healing done.

I think the impression that magicka Sustain is higher in the U29 patch is mainly coming from Siphoning Spells. And that is not so useful for Healers anyway. Yes you do damage, but we healers rarely do so much damage that we could benefit very much from that. If I am wrong about the proc condition on that, please correct me.

The other sources of sustain for healers in the last patch have been gutted, as well (see above). So ample healing is coming more and more from recasts of (cheap) burst heals.
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

I'm using Mage. With my CP points slotted, self-buffed, I have around 4800 Spell Power with 40k magika. I'm using the master resto staff with Powered trait (9% extra healing) and symphony of blades (Additional 4% healing), and I'm doing just fine for heals. My crit chance is only around 34%, but I'm not using any sets that boost crit right now anyways. I'm sure if I put on something like Hollowfang, I would have a bit higher crit, but I personally don't think crit on a healer is all that important. I'd rather have really strong base heals (which I do with this setup) than rely on RNG crits amplify my heals.

Light armor passive and Magelight which grants major prophecy and increases my max magika by 5%

Personally, thief or mage. I’ve always ran thief regardless as I run breton so sustain isn’t an issue with reduced costs, and now with the added passive into % done to critical damage and healing alike - I think crits are more important than ever. I totally ignored the buff to single target healing in PvE as it’s completely irrelevant unless you’re healing ice tombs in vSS for example. AOE and HoT is much more across the board for majority of your healing output, and then the rest falls into crit slottables. Just makes sense - I’m also having a lot more luck with precise over powered and it does well paired with thief and inner light slotted, as healing tool tips have rocketed anyways but i’m sure powered will be more beneficial in some scenarios.

Mage is also beneficial as more max magicka = more spell damage, and a higher magicka pool then opens up more room for likes of Roaring opportunist builds, and playing with pearls of ehlnofey.

Ritual. For sustain use blue skull food since we have enough HP bonus from new CP. For even more sustain i prefer to do some heavy attacks, rather than increase raw mag regen.

Crit heals are stronger for sure, but you exchange a les powerful but stable heals for unstable lucky ones. They can proc as well as they can not. Imo that is not how healer works.

Remember that your crit heals will be buffed by Ritual, too. Ritual won't buff all your other healing done bonuses, though.

Your crit heals will be buffed multiplicatively by increased healing done via CP, while to my knowledge Ritual will be buffing only additive. (If this is wrong, please let me know!)

Now remember you've got healing done via CP, but also via Minor Mending, Major Mending and possible via item sets and other means (Templar passive, Earthgore set etc.). This is all applied multiplicatively to your crit heals, while it is additive to your Ritual mundus.

If you have ways to increase your crit damage/healing - minor force, have a high horn uptime (major force!) - the Thief mundus gets quite competetive to the Ritual mundus! (Do the nb and templar passives to crit damage increase your crit healing, too? This would be important here!)

So both seem pretty viable to me. However, Thief adds to your damage, too. I think on many occassions the Thief mundus will be the overall better choice - even when it's raw healing output will be a bit less.
