Continuing the Markarth Prologue storyline

I enjoyed the storyline in the Markarth Prologue, and I'm wondering where to go to continue it. I understand the Grey Host theme runs through the base game (I think), Greymoor expansion and Markarth DLC. I don't recall meeting Gwendis with any of my previous characters, so would it be better to pick up her quests in the base game (if so, where do I start? She's in Rivenspire, right?) or jump into Greymoor? From what little I've read (trying to avoid spoilers), Markarth should be done after Greymoor. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Markarth and Greymoor can be done in either order. But once you finish both main questlines, there's a year-end questline in Markarth that brings both of the questlines together for a big dope finale. Greymoor just describes things like Harrowstorms and the Grey Host better up front, but the its major plot can happen simultaneously with Markarth.

Greymoor also has its own prologue quest, and Unhallowed Grave & Icereach are prequels to Greymoor, while Castle Thorn and Stone Garden happen "between" Markarth and Greymoor. The dungeons are less like prequels, and more like stories that flesh out how what's happening is possible, plotwise, and expand on things mentioned in the zone quests. Cool, but optional.

The Rivenspire main questline introduces you to the Ravenwatch, Gwendis, and most importantly, Verandis, who is referenced heavily in Markarth. You might have to abandon your Markarth quest to do those, since some quests can't be done simultaneously due to overlapping content.

The Markarth prologue definitely comes "after" Rivenspire, and it will make sense to have done Rivenspire first for the rest of it. But you don't have to. They wrote it so you can play Markarth and never be confused or lost as to what's happening.

Thanks for the great information! It sounds like I'd be okay if I picked up the Rivenspire questline, then did Greymoor and Markarth, maybe doing a few of the group dungeons along the way. I've already finished the Markarth prologue, so I've jumped the gun a bit, but it sounds like it's worthwhile to backtrack to Rivenspire. My champion character started in the Daggerfall Covenant, so I'm surprised he didn't run through those missions before, but that was back in 2014/2015, so it's possible I've just forgotten. Anyways, I started a playthrough through in VR with another character, and I was doing missions in Glenumbra before I got distracted to by a quest in Eastmarch that's led me to The Rift, so it sounds like I'll need to head back to the Covenant when I wrap up my current mission. Can I pick up the Rivenspire main questline in the Rift, or do I need to finish the main questline in Glenumbra before it will lead me there?

I think you can just pick up the Rivenspire questline in Rivenspire? At the like southern gate where you enter from Stormhaven. I don't think there's a prerequisite for it.
