I was pleasantly surprised when I logged in yesterday and heard that music for the first time. I didn't start this game until after Greymoor launched, but I've listened to all of the other menu themes on Spotify/YouTube. I think this might be my favorite one. It gets me so hyped up to play. I'm assuming Brad Derrick is the one who composed it, and he honestly kills it with the music in this game, especially the music in Elsweyr, Clockwork City, Vvardenfell, and the Valenwood zones (I think some of that music plays in some other places too). I'm excited to hear the rest of the soundtrack for this new chapter, even though it's going to be a while before I actually play it myself.

I started with Skyrim and have played a little bit of Oblivion. I'm aware of what the current TES theme is and has been for years. It's still incorporated in ESO's new theme, and it was in Greymoor's theme a little as well. I like that ESO takes the theme and puts its own spin on it each time. It keeps things fresh.
Besides, you are aware that the TES theme didn't always sound like that, right? The Morrowind theme was great because it introduced the iconic theme we have now. It really isn't all that special to me though since Oblivion and Skyrim use the same theme but sound way cooler. With that said, I wish Brad Derrick would get a little more recognition. So many people go on and on about "It's not Jeremy Soule!" I love Soule's work, but Brad Derrick is pretty damn good too. Some of his music is taking what Jeremy Soule created and making it (imo) sound even better, such as "Grazelands Dawn," but his original work is great to listen to even if it isn't Jeremy Soule's style.Edited by Kadraeus on March 10, 2021 4:34AM7 -
Tharonil✭✭✭Oblivion and Greymoor are both not my big loves. They are too loud and "evil", if that's the right word.
The Morrowind and especially the Sommersend theme were beautiful. They all sound very harmonious, with a bit of peace and a bit of adventure.4 -

16BitForestCat✭✭✭✭✭I love it! It goes so well with the new art and character select screen background. Took me right back to my first days of playing Oblivion all those years ago. I just sat at the login screen and listened till it played through the first time. I was almost disappointed to go back to the "regular" ESO music, even though I love the game's soundtrack in general. My partner keeps his music turned off, but even he turned it back on for the new theme.
EDIT: Looking at the later replies, this thread is a perfect example of what the ESO forums are.

✭✭✭I don't like the new music, not in general (its better than last year), but for the reason that it doesn't gives me any Elder Scrolls feeling. In the past you got goosebumps and anticipation when starting the game, but now... nothing.8 -

Its better than the last one, anything is better than the last one, but i hate it.
It was one of the strongest reactions to the patch, whats the deal with eso and loading music. Is the composer too precious to tell him the music sucks?
- If you want to play, you have to press mute.
- If you leave it on by accident, it just subconsciously annoys you, wanting you to abort and click something else.
Is this part of the server optimizations, make only the most committed people log in, filter out the riff raff at the door?2 -

Personally I guess I found it forgettable as I'm one of those people who spends as little time as possible in those screens. However maybe it's what that section of the game needs, as I didn't find it jarring or out of place. Just a smooth transition.1 -

He is the one of the best game composers but he is also notoriously hard to work with and he is bad at deadlines lol so in a game like an MMO it would be impossible for him to keep a regular flow of music. I seriously respect him but in an MMO it would be impossible to get him. I think by ESO standards this music is better but surprised they didn't use music from Oblvion like really guys?
The ESO music is slowly getting better over time it's still not fantastic by any means but in some of the zones these days I don't want to auto turn it off to listen to my own music. Still its a huge improvement. I really want Zeni to let us pick our start screen since there are so much of them.3 -

✭The new theme is so good, that whoever writes a soundtrack for TES 6 would have to work really hard to surpass the ever growing awesomeness (not you, Greymoor) of ESO themes. It gives a sense of urgency and conveys the idea of ambition really well.6 -

Yes! The opening of the new dlc sound track is exactly like this! Like a bunch of interns just scrambled around the music...
It sounded hillarious and absurd to even listen to the opening sound track?!
