Hello.

Can someone please give me some examples of what skills are considered:

area of effect attacks - Bitting Aura Star
damage over time effects - Thaumaturge star
single target attacks - Deadly Aim Star
damaging abilities - Wrathful Strikes Star
direct damage - Reaving Blows Star

I'm assuming Crystal Fragments is a single target attacks ability.

or direct damage?
or both?

is it so hard to add this to the skill description?

Unstable Wall of Elements I don't know what kind of ability it is, I don't know if it's area of effect or damage over time or damaging abilities.

thank you in advance.

Crystal Fragments is single target and direct damage.

Wall of Elements should be AoE and damage over time.

Single target / AoE and direct damage / damage over time describe two different categories. The one describes the range / reach of damage, the other the type of damage or how damage is dealt.

For Unstable WoE, the ticks are AoE and DoTs, whereas the final explosion is only AoE.

Some abilities live in multiple camps like how Templar's Jabs is Direct and AoE.

The explosion should be counted as direct damage then.

This is indeed confusing. I know this means extra work for devs, but I would kindly ask them to add this description to tooltips. We need to precisely know what category an attack belongs to. It should be like Pokemon, where you have: type, damage, physical/magical, etc. Pretty sure even devs aren't always sure if an attack is direct or dot, at least it's not clear from the tooltips we're given.

The skills DO already say whether they deal damage to a single target or multiple, and whether they deal damage over a period of time or not (the opposite being direct damage).

There are skills like Puncturing Sweeps and Rapid Fire that merit clarification as to how they function with these 4 terms, but for most skills it's pretty evident.

The only unclear type of skills might be channeled abilities like Soul Assault, Radiant Destruction or the Vampire health sucking skill. They shouldn’t be direct damage abilities, but are they DoTs?
