I've had this house for a long time now and even worked to open all the portals, but I still have zero desire to decorate it. I just find the portals break the idea that it is one complete house. Maybe if they were doors instead of portals it would feel more cohesive.

Then there is the fact that 2 of the areas are large and inviting but the 3rd is just a tiny house in a tiny space. It just feels really out of place to me.

Does anyone actually like this house enough to use it as their primary residence? What have others done with this house?

The area above the Lion's cradle is huge and has really nice views. I built a giant Dwemer party tower that overlooks southern Elsweyr.

    Wow, that is awesome!

I don’t have it as my primary, but I started with the Lion’s Cradle because it has a little house and was pleased with what I created there.

I want to build the first area down to the water someday, I just am not sure what kind of materials to make it look natural.

The second area...I don’t think I’ll ever figure that one out.

Wait, so Lion's Cradle is the area with the small house? And there is a large area above it? I need to take another look at this.

You can also build over the cliff and down to the water in the Halls of the Colossus room, and way up up in the Moongrave Fane room. I think the best way to be satisfied with this house is to pick one room and close off the other two. I'm making a Khajiiti temple with a sewer arena in my Moongrave Fane room (slowly ... as Mundane Rune prices drop)

I went to Lion's Cradle and tried to see how far over and down I could go. I ended up falling a few times and ran into an invisible wall that wiped me out. But it did help me reach the conclusion that this isn't the house for me.

It's nice to see some of the great things others have done with it, though.

I'm with you in never having warmed to Hall of the Lunar Champion. I visit now and then just to see if something will inspire me but nothing ever clicks. I also don't care for the way all of the wings and entrance share the total item count instead of each wing having its own count. If they each had their own item count you might be able to do something like a story progression from one wing to another but with the way it is you more or less have to pick one and ignore the other two.

I struggled a lot with the Lunar Champion when I first got it too, but I figured out something that worked for me. I don’t know if it would help but what I did is use the Halls in a way where it’s one connected building. Since I’m obsessed with making mansions, I made the initial room into the foyer where the central square was the seating area, then it goes to the Moongrave Fane area where I made a custom structure to make it look like you pop into another part of the mansion.

I set it up to where there are “windows” on the foyer walls that allow the beams to travel through glass since they’re enclosed with walls. If you wanted then depending on which wing, you could block it in to go straight to whatever wing you want to go and make it more focused. I just happened to make it wrap around to the wing at the back.

    6h3zemxfd72h.jpeg
    s1yp2loeiglm.jpeg
    qtepgygsiucu.jpeg

And then I built a three-story structure in Moongrave Fane around the portal with a “functional” greenhouse built off of that fencing that’s naturally there. I say functional because with the side of brazier planters, the gate can be opened there to water them. I built this off of what was already there at the house, so I guess you’d have to find what features of the house grab you and get creative with them.

There’s a spiral staircase and the top floor is one big room that’s both an office and bedroom.

(Some of these pictures are from the building process.)

You did a great job and gave some good advice. Everyone has.

Yesterday I tried to put curtains and tapestries over the portals but you could still see the light shining through. And nothing I tried helped cover the laser beams either. Even removing the tablets didn't remove them, but just changed their paths.

Maybe I should give up on trying to eliminate the lasers and portals, and work a design around them. Make it a proper area whose sole purpose is to hold gateways to the other areas.

I don't know. I just hate it sitting there unused.

@SilverBride Yeah I get ya. It’s a very odd and convoluted house made with the intent of giving the owner many different options on paper, but the actual design of Halls is either too specific or gives too many choices to where the owner wouldn’t know what to do with it. It took a long time to come up with my convoluted portal mechanism which is the hardest get-around IMO.

One design I had wanted to do was to open it up to the Halls of Colossus wing where I’d make an indoor waterless greenhouse there, but I didn’t have the slots to do it. The idea was to use each wing as different parts of the mansion property without having to make point B of ABC. So, to get to the garden, you wouldn’t have to go through some long corridor. But, again, slots. (And that is a done-to-death discussion so I won’t go into it.)

I like that ZOS is enabling us to get free houses to increase interest in housing, but I think something like the Antiquarian house (a more typical home) is much easier for people to deal with, certainly is for me. That Moongrave Fane area in Hall of the Lunar Champion will forever be underutilized. What an awkward looking place.

The Antiquarian house was definitely a lot easier for me to decorate because the indoor and outdoor spaces made sense and flowed well. I turned mine into a guest lodge.

I can understand in a way what you mean. I didnt really like the house myself, or the giant beam-emitting ball in the center of it.

Even worse, I tend to 'give' each house to one of my characters and it was my Altmer magcro's turn to receive a house and lets face it, I dont think could have been any less suitable for him.

But after playing around I did manage to make it so it looked like a place where he would live.

Describing it would be difficult so I tried to make a fast video (forgive me as I dont make videos at all so is a little sloppy).

I removed all the tablets but one to get rid of beams (Ill show how I did that last beam in video).

In first section I show front door and how I used stairs to cover first pedestal and lowered ceiling for most of giant ball.

From there, whenever my character jumps, its showing where a pedestal or portal would be. (It took me a min to figure out a way I could make this understood and jumping was best I could come up with lol)

Then how I used a cobbled chandelier to cover the part of ball the was still showing. I also showed how I couldnt cover original columns but tried to fit them in to rest of house.

The Lions Cradle pedestal has a tablet and is covered by the large clockwork box in storage room. When Vulindil runs back and forth Im attempting to show how the beam can be covered in one area and still show in the other.

Then lastly Im just showing Lions Cradle converted into basement/cave with a place for Vulindil to conduct his necro experiments.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that Hall of the Lunar Champion went from one of my most disliked houses to one of my favorites. So it is possible it can for you as well :)
