Microsoft has bought out Bethesda and Zenimax for quite a sum, yes. Don't worry, they aren't going to let this franchise go anywhere anytime soon, and to be entirely honest I have slightly more faith in Microsoft as a parent company than some of these other game publishers (looking at you, EA and Activision). Hopefully, they'll be able to port the game over to their Azure servers; from what I understand, Azure would be more than capable of handling the demand imposed on the game's servers by Cyrodiil, and then some.

    Linux based

Yeah, which now has me wondering (not for the first time) whether they use any container technologies (ala Docker, Kubernetes, etc) to deploy pre-built images to all the systems that have there in the data center. I guess I could answer that by checking out their job postings. (Edit: Yup, looks like they are building staff in that direction)

the next version of windows is likely using the linux kernel and emulating windows compatibility on top of that

Oh boy! perhaps with extra funding they may have from this deal and Microsoft backing them, they'll make this year's expansion have some truly groundbreaking new mechanics and perhaps a new fun class and new weapon types and not something that may barely work, not function for a large majority of content, yet be easily monetizable in the long run and-

    The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood
Destruction comes to Tamriel with the new Gates of Oblivion year-long adventure and Blackwood Chapter, arriving on PC/Mac and Stadia on June 1, and on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 consoles June 8.

The deal wasn't finalized until this year so no meddling of any kind yet. Now its done here we go, but on top of that ESO has had a good performance increase in PVE areas for many people. Zenimax is also getting new servers, but said it might not help performance as much as we think. So tomorrow next year we will see if anything major happens with this game. I want a new weapon or class something major as an RP person. If we have two years with no major content and increased jacked up prices with M$ meddling hoooo boooooy we got a dying MMO. Right now the casuals are mostly content, but too many bad years and lack of new weapons/systems/something could see ESO start to dip and die. I'm giving blackwood a chance I know Rona hit them hard but if next year doesn't see something big and cool for all the patience I might quit.

The new servers may allow for some new calculation stuff and whatnot(Idontknow im not big into tech knowhow and all) but it could instead be allowing more stuff to be possible in ESO. however, thats a 'could'
And having two major disappointments of chapters in a row is....ouch.
Unless they pull something surprising out of the bag coming with Blackwood I doubt it will be of any interest. ESO writing is....not good at best, plain boring slog to get through at worst too,and this chapter will not be an exception,as there is no reason to doubt anything new, unless there has been a change in the writing compartment that I missed.
And considering there havent been anything more notable that has been datamined, its not like we are getting anything more then a system that will be buggy, and wont work for pvp; a large part of the game for many, including myself.
However I cannot pretend to speak on anyone's behalf other then myself. so plenty of people may enjoy this. I however will not. this has nothing of interest to someone solely interested in pvp and co-op content.
and its also something that can be foreseen as "buy this companion in the crownstore! now only 5500 crowns!(down from 11000) limited time: 3days remaining". Mythic items are already an incentivisation to buy new dlc's if they dont drop the idea completely like they did with Daedric artifacts in cyrodil but...
Again I dont really have proof of this aside from just hunches. Nor can I speak for anyone but myself here.

(Really though I hope a new class or weapon skill lines or both are coming next year. I like making themed rp builds that work in pvp and so far lately, for the past year, ive been in pain trying do any sort of theorycrafting/making of said themed builds....at least ones that work.)

The new server things I find interesting. Microsoft operates a huge network of datacenters called Azure. Maybe they will move the ESO servers (US and EU) to Azure data centers in the best area for US and EU.

Microsoft has been doing good in recent years all around. Honestly this in my books is good news. I highly doubt they will kill or prune ESO at all as it's a Money Maker. I just hope instead they use it to enhance the game more in fact. Microsoft being doing a lot to not make money off a game itself but rather use their OS / Console, etc these days. So I would not be surprised they just try to find more ways to make the game accessible.

"Good" lol. Their game output has been less than lack luster and every time they come out with some new announcement it gets cancelled behind the scenes. Halo run into the ground, minecraft run into the ground, rare run into the ground, and state of decay not very good.

Am I crazy and or old? But all those game studios and games are complete crap compared to xbox at its height. They haven't managed to do a single thing right since the xbox 360 era except cancel loot boxes oh wow man so great and sort of gamepass but I'll never let a company as inept as M$ note let me download my games if the servers go out or their service is cancelled its GG no more games for you. I'm shocked microsoft has a good reputation these days as they've done nothing to earn it compared to what they used to be like. They do seem to be quite adept at duping people though like EA and all the big AAA publishers/devs. You'll forgive me if I don't trust your uh expert opinion.

I read somewhere the other day that the deal might not go through as Bethesda is in legal trouble. Bethesda is now being sued for lying and misleading gamers with Fallout 4's DLC Season Pass & The Creation Club.

So let's wait a couple more months before celebrating and making plans

Those articles were from weeks ago. The deal closed two days ago. It’s legally done and dusted. They can’t hit Undo. (Not because it isn’t a fantasy game, though — the skill is just still bugged.)

I have a super bad feeling about all this. M$ is known as the great canceller and meddler of games. Ea is the gaming horseman of death killing of studio after studio. M$ is the gaming horseman of famine making new games and cancelling them all the time. Starving and meddling with their studios and keeping them in limbo. They are possibly still one of the worst game publishers and developers of all time and only had brief success with the 360. I really wouldn't be surprised if ESO was gone in a decade.

Well that is a pretty safe bet - because it is pretty certain that it won't survive another 10 years anyway - most MMOs don't and the old school charm of it (i.e. artwork along the line of TES:Oblivion) will be gone by that time as well. So it wouldn't have anything to do with microsoft in the end - just end of a normal life cycle of an MMO.

Yeah I guarantee whatever that lawsuit ends up costing the company it would be a drop in the bucket next to the 7 billion Big M dropped on the acquisition. Not the sort of thing that would stop, or likely even slow a deal of this size.

Several online articles from a few weeks ago (around Feb. 24) were presenting the lawsuit as something that “might delay the acquisition.” Apparently the lawyers leading the class-action suit said they were going to seek a preliminary injunction on the basis that Bethesda might be trying to shield itself through this acquisition, but either that didn’t happen or it wasn’t granted. In the meantime, though, I’m sure it made great click-bait.

ZOS is hiring new people to work on their new upcomming mmo project. if you look under their hiring section.

does this mean eso's taking a back seat?

For those who wonder about the fate of ESO on consoles, now that MS is bankrolling..

Keep in mind that Microsoft has made very clear statements about wanting to develop "all-things Xbox" to run on ANY platform; PS4/5, Switch, (Win10 already has it built in), and of course existing Xboxes.. So, this might open doors that otherwise may have seemed too difficult for Zeni to open, without MS' direct assistance/cooperation.

Microsoft has flat out said that they don't care what device gets used to access their "virtual client", so long as it is being accessed. And why should they? It's a relatively well-known fact that console sales very often operate in the red. Because the money's in the service, not the device.

Unlikely, given that they are also hiring for ESO.

Right now, I don't think that Bethesda/ZOS has the benefit of owning datacenters. That means that if they can get enough floor space in Microsoft datacenters, a move will be good. They can maybe get rid of Akamai, which seems to be a problem for certain parts of the world.
