Enduring Rays - Templar passive

Can someone tell me how this works?

I just unlocked it on my new Templar and the tooltip increased the duration from Sunfire, but the damage stayed the same?

And what else does it extend? It doesn’t seem to extend the buff durations of Sunfire or Flare, so what else does it do? I am a bit confused right now.

Yeah, it's another bad Templar passive. Some skills like Purifying Light benefit from a longer duration but it's still weak AF so big deal lol. When I made my second Templar after making a necromancer and a dragon knight, I realized just how many bad Templar skills and passives there are. Templars are carried by sweeps and breath of life.

But what does it actually do in the case of Sunfire, Flare etc.? It increases the duration of what exactly? I‘m on console and when the tooltips don’t tell me what’s going on, I don’t know what else would. Testing didn’t help me either...

Extending the duration of Sunfire while not increasing its damage (or is the tooltip wrong?) sounds like I’m gimping myself by even putting points into this talent.

It literally just increases the duration of Sun Fire, Eclipse, Solar Flare, and Nova by one or two seconds. The tooltips are updated so you can't notice. If you deactivate the passive duration will be shorter on the tooltips. Ticks still hit for the same amount of damage, it's just that you get one or two more ticks. Pretty useless passive and should just be reworked - among other Templar passives.

It increase only the duration of these skills, so basically it is about a tiny bit more sustain since you will have to hit the skill a few less times over the course of a long fight.

It doesn't bump the damage per second up in any way so your DPS will not increase. The total damage on the tooltip will be higher but since it's spread out over a longer period of time the ticks are the same.

Fun fact, it used to increase the duration only without upping the total damage at all, leading to an effective decrease in DPS back several years ago. We used to not put points into the passive back then, cause, you know, Templar...

Yeh, it is crazy when you look at warden and necro passives and compare them to the base classes.

Sram sorc has got better, but at one point there was like 5 passives relevant to it.

Templar and non pet sorc do still have a lot of crappy ones to this day.

Especially when you compare them to things like "have 3% damage for slotting skill you were going to slot anyway" and "have more pen when you use skills you were going to use anyway".

Let's not forget how many buffs and debuffs Warden had when they released lol.

Okay, I just noticed something about Enduring Rays and Sunfire: if you only have 1/2 points in the trait, it increases the duration, but the damage is the same. If you put 2/2 into the trait it increases duration and the damage is increased a well. Eventually it just adds another tick to Sunfire. The mind-boggling part is, with only 1/2 points it does nothing - my explanation is that Sunfire ticks every 2s and doesn’t get calculated other than that, so just increasing the DoT component by 1s does nothing - this is a huge design flaw in my opinion.

One benefit for Enduring rays extending the Sunfire DoT is that it also extends the Major Prophecy buff the skill provides, so if you're using the skill to keep Major Prophecy active then you don't have to cast it quite as frequently in your rotation which is a little bit of a sustain buff I guess.

If you're using Solar Barrage though you want the extra 2 seconds from Enduring Rays just to keep the empower going for your light attacks and the pulse damage.

In PVP if you're using Eclipse/Living Dark as your only Dawn's Wrath skill (not common but it happens -- dedicated healers usually), Enduring Rays makes it a 6 second buff which lines up very nicely with the Prism passive that helps with ultigen.

I agree though that it and some of the other passives could be better or more flashy, especially compared to what we've seen from the more recently developed classes.
