Weird Interaction Between Crystal Frags and Heavy Attack. Possible new Magsorc Tech?

Hey everyone, I was messing around on my new magsorc vampire and noticed a weird interaction between frags and heavy attack. If you cast frags, then start a heavy attack, you can delay the cast of frags to hit at the same time as the heavy. In the video I mix it with force pulse just to show how much damage can be stacked on a level 7.

I also tested and it works with all weapons heavy attacks. Not just fire staffs.

Isn‘t that normal behavior for skills with a casttime? It‘s just like dizzy into medium/heavy attack

Not from what I can tell. What you describe could be done in 2 global cooldowns i suspect.

Dizzy (0.8) > heavy attack + executioner (1.2-1.4 seconds)

With this its essentially the same, but makes it so you are delaying the damage from the first skill to make it align with the last one perfectly.

Example using dizzy (doesn't work BTW I checked)

Dizzy + heavy attack + executioner (2-2.2 seconds)

Its less about the cast time and more about the damage delay.

Edit. Also those aren't medium attacks they are fully charged heavies.

This seems like intended behavior, though. Crystal frags hit together with the medium weave and force pulse, because frags is a projectile and it just needs such a long time to arrive at the target. Force Pulse is not a projectile. You medium weave might even hit after force pulse, because your destro fires of projectiles, too. Also your Force Pulse will proc your enchantment, which will hit at the same time, too. You might consider wearing an infused destro for that, maybe even Torug's.

Please keep in mind to combine that timed burst potential together with a curse and endless fury, tyvm.

I tested some more, this behavior you noticed doesn't seem to be right. Frags is cast only until after the the heavy is done.

You are playing on console. On PC we can turn on a combat log (via addons like Recount or Combat Metrics), so we can see at which exact time those skills hit. If you were to do it on PC, you would probably see that your frags, heavy and force pulse hit within 100ms of each other, which seems odd, because of the global cooldown you would think there has to be a second between force pulse and frags. This happens for two reasons:
- frags has a cast time
- gcd starts, when you start casting frags, not when you finish casting it
- frags is a projectile

So when you animation cancel frags with a heavy and cast an instant skill which is not a projectile (like force pulse) after that, all those three actions will hit roughly at the same time. I'd imagine this would work best on rather close range - the farther you get away, the longer the projectiles would need.

I don't think frags is actually casted after your heavy. If it is, it would be a bug. What you are seeing should only be because of delays, animation canceling and projectile travel times. Maybe someone with more experience on MagSorc can elaborate on that.

Anyway, question to other sorc players: Is streak stun unbreakable ? (And if yes, then is it intended ?)

I ask because it happens constantly in PvP. I can be full on stamina and can not break free after some one streaks through me. Also, I have noticed it happens almost exclusively to streak (as if it was most prone to cause that). I can not tell if it is some wierd lag-related thing (we know how cyro pvp works) or bugged skill (as tooltip does not mention that, it only says it can not be blocked, just like fear).

Frags has minimum travel time regardless of range. So it should be possible hit at the same time. Minimum travel time is like a micro-delayed burst.

Break free fails to function because of the server not because of the CC skill. If the server and the clients get even the least amount of temporal or positional desync, break free becomes hit or miss. (I think this is why there are so many CC related CP in Flames of Ambition).

My gut says that server syncronization is off all over the place, pvp, pve. I see lots of strange behavior, things just a little off. Like this, unless you are paying very close attention, you'd never notice.

I tested some more. I revoke what I said earlier. This is definitely not intended behavior. Crystal Frags isn't cast, until you do the heavy. This is not a matter of projectile travel times etc. This thread needs to be moved over to Bug reports and this issue be fixed ASAP.

Yeah. Its very troublesome. Using curse force shock enchants etc you can easily line up 5-9 sections of damage at once.

Yep. I agree. I can recreate with fire/frost staves.

I'm not sure about lightning, frags lands in the middle of the channel. I'm do at least 1 more tick lightning heavy damage tick after frags lands. I think it fires when the channel starts, not when the channel ends like fire/frost.
