Do bleeds deal physical or bleed damage?

It sounds stupid, but bleeds seem confusing. Tooltips state that they deal physical damage, e.g. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Bleed_Damage , although they should be bleed damage? Also, with the new haemorrhaging status effect, how exactly will it be applied? Bleeds seemed like a status effect of physical damage, but now they become a fully-fledged damage type with its own status ailment?

Those sets are incorrectly labeled and why it's so confusing. Bleed is its own damage type and if it says it bleeds but deals physical damage it's not a bleed.

If it says "bleeds for Physical Damage" it's considered a bleed. You can see this in action here (start at 0:45):

    The player is using

to proc Hemorrhaging and as you can see, it works.

Bleed is a sub-category of physical damage, like poison and disease.

As opposite to fire, electric and ice, which are sub-categories of magic damage.

Is there a difference between Bleed and Physical Damage currently? I know bleed previously ignored armor, but that was removed. And next patch (FoA) Bleed and Physical will apply different status effects. In the live patch (Markarth) I’m not sure there’s any difference, aside from some niche armor sets like Blooddrinker or Dro’Zakar.

So how do you deal bleed damage? I'm confused.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure since the change to Bleeds circa Murkmire they simply became Physical, and so some of the sets/skills say "bleed for X Physical Damage", whereas they used to say "deals X Bleed Damage". So when Bleeds were changed, Bleed in some of the tooltips was decapitalized, and Physical was added. Now that Bleeds are again a distinct damage type, on PTS do these sets/skills now say "deals X Bleed Damage", with a capital B?

For instance Carve says "causing them to bleed for an additional X Physical Damage", where the damage is simply a Physical DOT. If I'm right then Carve should now say on PTS "causing X Bleed Damage", and nothing about the damage will change whatsoever, except for the chance of each tick to proc Haemorrhaging. Otherwise both Physical and Bleed will scale with all buffs to Martial Damage, whereas on live bleeds (lower case) scale with any buffs to Physical Damage, other than a very few exceptions, like Blooddrinker, which only buffs Physical DOTs which are called bleeds (lower case) on live, and which will be called Bleeds on PTS/next patch.
