My guess would be, if the comapnions did get to carry inventory space, that you could buy upgrades like with the pack merchants, so it maybe starts at 10 slots, and then you can buy more
I would rather they just let us buy upgrades increase the bag limit on our characters than some "gimmick" to do it.
That is even if they are going to increase inventory slots again.
Although honestly, 200 isnt enough for you? Especially after the sticker book, all of my character's bags are a lot lighter these days.
Since we can assemble items for our companions like slot weapons and gear there should be no problem for campanions to carry inventory space right?
Somehow I don't believe they'll do that. You'd possibly just be able to equip them with armor (maybe there'll be a menu like your own where you have slots for the different body parts and 4 for weapons and/or shield), but other than that... If you could just fill your companion's inventory with dozens of items, they wouldn't be able to sell inventory carrying pets anymore. (Although... maybe that was some kind of test for the companion feature already? Just like houseguests were a kind of pre-form, or at least I assume that?)

Companions acting as pack mules would be the only thing that would make me ever use them. And even then only when farming/grinding for extended periods.
