Imperial Sewers House!

So, there might be a solid reason why we don't have player homes in pvp zones, but I really want one! I love the idea of creeping through the sewers desperately trying to make it back to your crappy little hovel to store your var. And the idea that the second you walk out your front door, you're in a pvp zone and need to fight sounds intense and awesome! In terms of role playing it will really satisfy that nerd in me that wants to live out the daedric invasion of the Imperial City.
That being said, I'm sure there's a reason why player homes in pvp zones are impractical, but I think putting the house in IC might actually work! As long as it is somewhere accessible by all the factions (maybe in the sewers or in one of the districts) and as long as you can port directly into and out of your home, the pvp will be optional!

Nice idea! But unfortunately, I think your post already addressed the main issue:
As long as it is somewhere accessible by all the factions (maybe in the sewers or in one of the districts) and as long as you can port directly into and out of your home, the pvp will be optional!
I think this is the main reason we'll never get PvP housing. Or at least, housing that allows us to port in PvP zones.

We could get houses that are 'technically' in PvP zones but not really (like a keep in Cyrodiil that has an entrance in Reaper's March or something, or an IC house that's portable from the world map without interacting with the IC campaign at all), or houses that are only accessible in Alliance safe spaces. Because if a house has an opening in a PvP zones, you can bet all the PvP griefers will camp that location and gank players as they are loading in.

So trying to tie Housing functionality (entering/exiting the front door, porting to that location) to PvP (campaigns, population locks, competitive play) wouldn't work. Maybe a house that's visually in IC would work for you? There are some pretty cool building models there, so maybe it would satisfy your 'inner nerd' to have a house that looks like this but isn't technically in the PvP-zone itself? Perhaps a solution like Halls of the Lunar Champion? the entrance is one place, but the portals take you to other parts of the world that are otherwise inaccessible (i.e. house entrance in Rimmen, portal to Halls of the Colossus Overlook area)? So maybe similarly: an Imperial Outpost house in Blackwood, that has portal access to a copy of an IC district turned into a housing instance?

I agree @WabanakiWarrior , I had never thought of the idea but it is interesting.

However, as pointed out above, you would get ganked either trying to get in or out the door. Which, of course, would be the same door as everyone else’s house. Prime camping spot.

I suppose you could teleport in but the second you step out you’ll be toast. You can’t use the map to pay gold and get to a wayshrine like in PvE.

There definitely should be no “PvP optional” about it, though. If you’re going to have a house there you can’t avoid the rules of the game for IC.

They could have the entrance/exit be a portal to the sewers or Cyrodiil.

Thanks for the response! One of the main catalysts for this idea was the news that we would be able to fast travel directly from our homes next patch. I'm not entirely sure if that is a really going to happen, but if it does I figured it would allow this idea to finally be feasible! I agree walking out that front door into the sewers could be a death wish, but if we can finally fast travel from homes then walking out the front door would truly be optional.
Personally, I'd walk out that door and 1vx the goons on the other side, but that's just me. There's already a mechanic in IC that allows you to be immune from attacks for a few seconds while you go through a load screen and that would be more than enough time to prepare for an attack (or even just turn around and go back in the house).
But there really isn't much to gain from ganking someone immediately out the gate, they probably just deposited all their tel var. The true game will be waiting for people attempting to make their way back home. But again, it would be entirely optional to risk depositing your tel var in your house, the usual methods of porting to cyro and back or running to your base will both still be available.
But truth be told, as someone who has spent time ganking, I expect when the house first drops there might be some fun to be had, but its only a matter of time before waiting outside that door for people becomes VERY boring.

So I guess this whole idea comes down to whether or not fast traveling from homes is going to become available. If so, anyone can enjoy the house without having to pvp at all.

Oh also, @bluebird that idea to turn Hall of the Lunar Champion into a replica of the Sewers sounds freakin awesome! I might actually do that, I was just looking at screenshots from the sewers for some inspiration :D

I meant that leaving your home and going into the sewers would be optional. Right now there isn't really an efficient mechanic that allows you to fast travel into and out of homes, but if they were to add one, then walking out your door into the sewers would be entirely optional. You could enjoy the home all you like without having to pvp.
This is probably all just dreaming though.
